Can personal name anchors from blog commenting be a risk?

Hello,
I've created a new site early this year.
In an effort to stay on Googles good side I decided not to do any link building. Everything you create yourself is pretty much frowned upon by Google, right?
I have been doing a fair bit of blog commenting where that would add value.
As a result my link profile shows about 50% anchors with my name in it.
Can this be dangerous?

Nope, that should be totally fine, that is, unless your name is 'Quality SEO Services' or 'Cheap Toys'.
Take a look at the link profile of say Distilled.com - a big chunk of the anchor text is the two senior partners names. Likewise, my own site is the same.
Additionally, Penguin is keyword specific, so, it would never happen but if it did and you picked up a penalty for your name, would that even be that big of a problem?
I have a natural penalty for my name in that there is a far cooler and more interesting musician called Marcus Miller so I have absolutely no chance in hell of ranking 1st for my own name and rightly so as most people Googling 'Marcus Miller' are not looking for me, they are looking for my cool, M jazz composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist alter ego (who also worked with Miles Davis).
Honestly, as long as you are adding value with your blog posts and keep using your name or nick name and don't do anything silly, then you have nothing to worry about and likely a lot to gain!

Blog Co-Op - Purchasing Links in Relevant Blogs
Hello, Our SEO company has recommended participating in a blog co-op, where we can purchase a link on a relevant blog, either submitting our own content or letting them find relevant anchor text in an article on their site and adding a link back to us. Links are running $40 - 100 based on Page Rank of the blog. I realize that it is BETTER not to buy a link, but is this going to hurt us if the blog content is relevant to our industry?

How do i determine if an SEO person i hired is good and should continue on
I know SEO is important and i am hiring an SEO person, as well as company. however, they both seem to contradict each other and so im lost as to know who is good and bad. what should i look for in their work report, and what questions should i ask. Background: i have tried to read alot (100+ articles) on the new panda and penguin so at least i know what people are talking about without being clueless. So my site got hit recently with the updates and got penalised, and i think that is predominantly because of the backlink profiles, before being built too much around keywords. so my understanding is that backlinking now should be natural, diverse (many alt tags instead of a few), concentrate on branding and less on keywords. The person: she believes in branding, and acknowledge the problem with my previous backlink profile. so now she said the backlink ratio should be around 40-50% based on the brand. so she has been doing alot of backlinks wtih alt tags for my website url, name, as well as my name. She said once that ratio is close to that target of 40-50% i should see a jump in ranking, which woudl be in around a month of work. but here is my concern 1 - the other company said she is spamming, which kinda scarred me already 2 - while in principle, what she has said is backed up by my reading materials, it seems she only concentrate on three alt texts so far, my url, my business name, and my name. i thought they need to be diversified 3 - the links seem to come from alot of places. she said it does not need to be high quality now as we just need to get that ratio/profile correct, and then we can concentrate on the high quality links later. she is doing around 40 links per day. which apparently take 8 hours per day. 4 - i guess i worry that that if all these new links suddenly become spams later, does that mean i woudl need to either build more links to offset the more spam links, or have to spend more time removing bad links Please advise. is she performing spamming. how do i check her links/works. is there a tool. is it wise to build more links, or is it better to identify previous bad links and remove them? Thank you for your help.

What impact do no follow links in blog comments have if any?
Hi I think we all agree that social network sites such as pintrest/instagram/twitter are all now no follow however I believe there is benefit in having them.... So I wondered if anyone had been experimenting with commenting on blogs which had no follow attributes and if there was any benefit in terms of improving your rankings?

We all get them ... spam blog comments. People do it to get link value back to their site. Recently, someone approached me to do this for our site but on niche sites that are related to our content and to provide good valueable comments within a blog post of about 100 words each, and genuinely try to engage.They also were talking about finding blogs that have "follow" links in their comments space, since most do not. I still declined it because it is somewhat 'grey-hat' rather than 'white-hat' linking, and we want to be above-board on everything. Although we personally declined this approach, I'm curious your thoughts though on whether gaining links from blog comments from related, niche sites is a good idea. Like this question? Posting "similar" blog posts to multiple blog sites seems "shady", does it work?
I've read a lot of info here in the Q & A tonight and there was a thread that stated it's potentially a good thing to post content on multiple blog platforms such as: blogger.com posterous.com wordpress.com tumblr.com I've also been trying to figure out how to deal with my blog as a subfolder instead of a subdomain. That research in Q & A clearly indicates that Google treats subdomains basically like separate websites and links from my blog to my main website will not be as valuable if i stay the course with my blog on a subdomain short term. Given that, if the 4 blogging tools above all require the use of a subdomain, then how am I actually taking advantage of the seo value of blogger,posterous, tumblr? Â In my case my domains would be: steripen.blogger.com posterous.tumbler.com steripen.wordpress.com steripen.tumblr.com Just not adding up to being viable given what I read states these would be treated as new websites, not to mention I worry these posts, even slightly differentiated, would be suspect. Who am I truly benefitting by doing this? Users?
