Panda Or Penguin Hit ?
-
Hi,
My site was hit in april and did get a warning message in wmt for unnatural links , so i removed links and filed a reconsideration request , google then revoked the penalty .
that was june , the site still has not recovered and thinking maybe i was hit by both panda and penguin , at that time i did not have analytics installed was using awstats .
I have attached awstats for april So you can see when the traffic drop started .
So was i hit by panda , penguin or both ?

Panda is about a lot more than just ads on the website - it involves quite a few factors related to the quality of the content on a website (having too many ads is one of the factors).
Here is a blog post from Google listing some quality factors related to Panda: http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2011/05/more-guidance-on-building-high-quality.html

Hey Dean
If you really want to review this in earnest you need to go back to Feb 2011 and start reviewing things from there. Check for traffic drops that correspond with known updates to Penguin and Panda which you can get from here:
http://www.seomoz.org/google-algorithm-change
Then, you also need to compare this against the time you got the email from webmaster tools stating there was a manual penalty (which, of course is in addition to any Penguin and Panda issues).
So, resolving a Manual penalty is pretty tough so if you have sorted that, odds are you have got rid of a bunch of the bad links so may well have cleared up any Penguin issues but you really need to review the affected keywords and make double sure.
First step, check all the dates you lost traffic to get an idea of what your problems are then use that information to guide your hand going forward.
From our experience helping people with various penalties we can generally recover specific keywords by fixing the anchor text and we can recover some traffic with Panda penalties but reports of people recovering in entirety are thin on the ground (WPMU is the only one that springs to mind).
Ultimately, if you picked up a Penguin, Panda and Manual Penalty this year, then you probably have a whole bunch of problems that you need to review that go beyond trying to resolve the actual penalty issues.
Some useful further reading:
http://www.seomoz.org/blog/fat-pandas-and-thin-content

If you want more feedback and anything more than just a generic overview we would really require a link so we can take a look at the site itself.
Sure hope this helps though!
Marcus

I am pretty sure that you have been hit by Penguin, I have the same traffic drop approximately at same dates. (24-25 of april)
Even if Google revoked penalty it doesn't meen that your rankings will return.
At the the time you need to understand how Google filters work:
Penguin is all about wrong on-page optimisation and unnatural linkbuilding! Don't buy from link farms and etc.
Panda is all about ads on website.
Thanks
Russel

Search traffic hit after switching magazine to subdomain
Hi there, I'm fairly new at all of this and would appreciate any help with understanding why our website has taken a hit in traffic. We curate an online magazine, which was previously accessible through: forensicoutreach.com. It was receiving about 2,000+ unique visitors per day up until a week ago, when we changed a few things. However, the magazine doesn't reflect what our business does, so we created a product-focused web presence on forensicoutreach.com, and moved the magazine (which everyone loved) to library.forensicoutreach.com (DA 37, PA 1). We thought separating the properties was a good idea, but now I'm not so sure. Our traffic on library.forensicoutreach.com is 1,500 (so 500 less than usual!) and our main property has about 56 unique visits a day. It's pretty substantial. A few questions: 1. If we move the library to forensicoutreach.com/library, will that make any difference? 2. Where did we go wrong here and how can we fix it? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Yahoo and Bing Ranking Hits
Morning, Has anyone else in the UK seen a massive ranking shift on Bing and Yahoo over the last week? One of our eccommerce client's main keywords was ranking #3 and #11 on Bing and Yahoo respectively last week, but today they've dropped to #32 and #35. It seems rather strange as pretty much all of the main keywords have increased on Google. In fact, pretty much all of the Google rankings are the highest they've been since the SEO campaign commenced in October/November! Cheers, Lewis

No Data in Custom Report set to 'Hit' Scope
Hi Guys, Been having a problem recently with a custom report I have set up... I want to find out number of sessions, bounce rate, session duration etc for different dimensions on my site - store area, store name, product type etc but I cannot seem to get the data to filter through to the report I have set up when 'Session' scope is selected. If I set it to 'hit' then I do get the data but this will only record the first instance of a dimension being triggered (from what I can gather) rather than all dimensions that might be triggered during a complete session. Has anyone experienced similar problems? Thanks, Dan

Penguin 2.0 has hit business
Howdy,
Reporting & Analytics | | MarzVentures
I represent a UK based workwear company called myworkwear.co.uk and our rankings have fallen following Penguin 2.0. We are a relatively small company compared to many competitors and have noticed the arrival of large companies in the serps. Many are not even in the workwear sector and pretty irrelevant which is annoying. We have not received any correspondence from Google, but our fall from grace particularly for the word workwear has been big. Do you think our link profile is an issue? Click here: Link Profile Is it worth emailing Google? We have attempted to remove bad links, is it worth using disavow? My feelings are we should: 1. Email Google via Disavow tool about the links we have already tried to remove with proof of attempt.Go through link profile with fine tooth comb and contact an even wider range of webmasters for link removal. Then email Google via disavow tool (best to try removal via email to websites first).2. Begin to build new content and links, even guest blogging is now coming under scrutiny from Google – There really is no bluffing Google anymore.3. Build site conversion.4. Develop a competition theme (10 years old anniversary) combined with say MyWorkHero, etc. Use this for social networking.5. Increase social networking, but is this experts are predicting this is the next kick up for seo.6. Having improved conversion, trial adwords.7. Continue to develop the site in a structured, non manipulative manner. – Look at it as a good site is a successful site in the eyes of Google and the rewards will follow. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.0 -
Confirmation page gets hit multiple times by some users. How I can I segment out unique visits?
Hi All, I'm web marketing manager at http://www.evenues.com which is like an AirBnB for meeting space. When calculating the number of bookings for our meeting spaces, I've set up a goal in analytics with the confirmation page as the goal URL. The problem is, it seems that some users are looking at the same confirmation page several times. We have unique URLs for each confirmation page, but some users seem to be visiting these unique pages more than 2 to 5 times. This skews our numbers a bit. This makes things a bit problematic when it comes to segmenting visitors. is there anything we can so that each unique URL visited only counts once? Thanks, Kenji

Panda 3.8 and Google query report
Today I was plugging the SEOMoz Google change log into my analytics and noticed that our site took an impression jump (30%) on the day Panda 3.8 was released but also, if I'm reading the chart right, a drop in keyword avg. ranking. Does this make any sense or am I misunderstanding the chart? googleseomozq.jpg

Did I get penalized by Panda 3.9?
Hey guys, So I have been on Google analytics and I looked at Traffic Sources > Search Engine Optimization > Queries & Landing Pages From Tuesday until today I am showing 0 impressions for top queries when we usually average around 9000 impressions daily, I am seeing the same for landing pages. When I go into google webmaster tools I am seeing 0 data from tues-today. It doesnt say that I have 0 impressions, it is just not showing me those dates, almost like I am unable to see data that is so close to today. The weird thing is that traffic to the sites in question is higher or normal to what it has been the whole month which makes me think that this is some sort of glitch. If we are being penalized and indeed have 0 impressions via search then our traffic would drop tremendously. When I sign out of google and search for our search terms, I am seeing our site pop up right where they should be. When I use the Page Rank tool I am also seeing us in the SERPS where we should be. Wed morning when I came into work after SEOmoz had an updated keyword rank report, I saw some great gains for a lot of our keywords. I am super confused and hoping that I was not part of the 1% affected. There is no reason for our sites to be penalized, they have great authority, healthy traffic, and go by SEO best practices. We have great content! Has anybody ever ran into this problem? Could use some guidance!
