Recovery from Penguin removing internal urls permanently replace with new

Since I was hit with Penguin back in April, but with this last update Oct. 5th I did see a very slight recovery, I was thinking about dumping some of my old URL's which contain backlinks which I can't get removed that seem spammy. I was thinking of keeping the page intact but replace with an entirely new URL and NOT 301 redirect. So basically starting over with that URL that way the backlinks points to a dead url.
Any thoughts?

You are 100% correct. This is how you dump links! You must remove the page and let it 404.
Won't guarantee that you will recover if you did link building to your homepage though, which is why you should never point links to your homepage.

Risky but could do the trick. You should analyse each page separately and see if any actually have good links going to them - if not then its worth a try (as long as there arent lots and lots of pages, doing them one or two at a time might work nicely).
The advantage here is that if there are good links coming to the page, it will be MUCH easier to get a legitimate website to change the URL of the link than it would be to get the bad links removed.
If there are bad links going to specific pages it might also be worth trying to block the bots from accessing the specific pages. Obviously if your homepage has lots of bad links then this could be a bigger issue...

If those pages have mostly bad links pointing to them (i.e. you won't be losing any good links) I'd say go for it - it's worth a try and very well may help!

To be honest we all know that penguin is quite difficult to handle so maybe it can work but there are an equal chance that it is not going to work...
Well I like the idea of dumping some URLs that contain fishy links...and create entire new pages...but what if the penguin is on the domain level and not on the page level? I think in that way this tactic might not work...

Very old site wanting a revamp - how to handle all the redirects/URL changes
Hi all, I have a very very old site, that requires a facelift (going from an old clunky CMS to wordpress). Relaunching a site that has had thousands of posts linking to the same 20 articles. How to properly setup internal linking?
I'm in the process of relaunching a music news site (www.prefixmag.com) that once did quite well in search (over a million monthly search visits in its prime). The site got crushed by Panda, etc. and we stopped updating it. I'm starting to do more research but one thing that I noticed was we have modules in the right rail (desktop) that are found on all of our article pages that point to the same posts. (Edit: Added attachment. The links in the right rail under Editor Picks, Features, News, Media, etc. are found on every page of the site). In other words, we have thousands of posts that all link to the same 20 or so articles. Should we not do this if we're not trying to emphasize these posts in Google? Assuming this is the case, what is the proper way to do internal linking? Do we simply setup a sitemap and link to it? I'm hoping to have the thousands of articles we've published over the years have a chance to rank in search again. Also, we have a number of posts that are thin in content should those pages not be submitted in the sitemap? Thanks in advance! 2KmX0

Different URL (not homepage) showing up for main keyword
Hello, When we search for 'boutique hotels' the following URL appears on first page in Google UK: https://www.i-escape.com/united-kingdom/boutique-hotels While we're pleased to be ranking on first page, I was wondering why it hasn't picked up our homepage, as it has for our competitors. Does this simply mean Google deems this page more worthy of first page SERPs? Thanks again for your help Moz community!

Strange new links being picked up in Webmaster tools affecting SERPs
Hi, I have a question regarding new links being found by Google, and showing in our latest links file from Webmaster tools. I run this site: http://www.propertysales.com it's a fairly new website with a small (ish) link profile but over the last 3 months I've seen a lot of links being found in Google like this: http://www.financecourier.com/news/story/523316/foreign-carmakers-milk-chinas-cash-cow/full_story.html it's clearly a scrap of a webpage from the FT.com, who we partner with, that has a link to PropertySales.com but the number of links Webmaster tools is seeing is much bigger than we would normally get in any given month. As a rule I would normally ignore scrapper sites as I’ve always assumed Google is smart enough to know which site these are and thus wouldn't affect your SERPs but I’ve also seen a drop in our SERPs over the same month so now I’m thinking these are effecting the sites SEO. Does anybody have any insight into this or advice on the best way to handle this, I looking at going through these site and adding them to our disavow file but this can take a few month to take effect so are they any better options or way to handle this? How to decide which links to remove.
I manage the seo for a bunch of different websites. We currently have a problem with links from low quality sources.... way too many of them and then way too much exact match anchor text. We have a lot of sites that we basically linked together (blog network) and we are in the process of correcting this. We know we have a lot of links we need to remove and/or anchor text we need to rewrite. My question is how do I know which ones to remove and/or edit. I know that having some links from low quality sources isn't bad, or links from some other sites you own, or having some exact match anchor text. I know this isn't all bad, and some of it is expected but we have a LOT of this going on. So basically I need to make decisions on each and every link as to whether we want to keep it, edit the anchor text, nofollow it, or delete it. I'm just not sure of what the best action is that should to be taken for each link. Hi Guys, I checked my website back-links and found some bad links. Now i just want to remove links from third party website. I know two methods as mentioned below: Disallow bad links from Google Webmaster Contact to webmaster and remove them I tried both of the above methods but not get success.Is there any other method to solve this issue??

Primary link building for new clients, where do you go first?
When starting out with a new client, where do you look first to build links for that client? I have a lot of close friends who have small businesses with not a very huge budget for SEO and I'm trying to wrap my head around how to do a significant amount of quality link building without breaking the bank. Submitting my URL on web/business/service directories
Does it make sense to submit a business URL in as many relevant web/business directories as possible when kicking off a link building campaign? Submitting a free listing is obviously better than nothing, but when does it make sense to pay extra for a premium listing profile on some of these directories? There are just so many and a lot of them appear spammy, even though some of my competitors are getting traffic from them. Any advice on this would be great!
