How do I identify spamming links in Google eyes?
-
Hi
How do I tell which links are spammy to get them removed. Is there a piece of software which I can upload our incoming links to and it will identify which ones are spam???
-
I have found that most webmasters have a really hard time objectively deciding which links are spam.
If you have received an unnatural links message than an unnatural link is any link that you, or your SEO created.
You don't need to worry about any nofollowed links.
Almost all keyword anchor texted links are unnatural. I also call the following unnatural:
-links from article sites
-followed blog comments using anchor text
-most directory links (think - would I make this link if search engines didn't exist?)
-followed forum sigs or links from forum posts
-followed bookmarks
-most blogroll links
The only truly natural links are ones where the other webmaster was the one who decided to link to you.

Also, links that have been reported and reviewed by Google:

Can a company group have reciprocal links on their company websites without being penalised by Google?
A client which is part of a group of businesses all within one industry but have different purposes has come to us aith a "brilliant idea" that they all have a blog on their website that links to every business within their group. We are pretty sure that this will be seen as "black hat" by Google, but just wanted to see what you all thought? Thanks!

Drop in "Links to your site" in Google Webmaster Tools
Last week I noticed a substantial drop in "Links to Your Site" in Google Webmaster Tools on several of my websites. Upon further investigation the reduced links were from our sister sites. It appears that Google has reduced the number of links they are counting from links in our headers and footers from these sites to our main websites. It is not affecting our rankings or traffic. Is Google doing some clean up with what they are showing in webmaster tools for links from related, owned sites? Any cause for concern?

Do links within imbeddable widgets carry link juice?
I'm dipping my toes into infographic design. On of my desired outcomes is to gain links by having other sites embed my graphic. I'm considering using Tableau's interactive data visualization software to do so; thus creating a widget, embedding it on my blog, and including the embed code for others to post. Is it possible to include a juice passing link in such an infographic? I know its possible to include links inside the tableau graphic but not sure if they have straight SEO value. If these links are not juice passing would it be better to go with a simple image link that passes value?
