Competitor has a dmoz.org link
-
Hello friendly folks,
Found a competitor has a great link from http://www.dmoz.org/ but the directory manager seems to be inactive. Anyone had success with getting updates there or should I move on?
-
Thank you!

I wouldn't worry too much about DMOZ. I have seen where one of my sites was de-listed and another of my sites was listed and the de-listed site lost no rankings and the listed site gained no rankings. These sites were competing for the same keyword.

I tried to become an editor some time ago and never went anywhere - this was mainly down to the fact application mails bounced.
-
Worth noting one particular bit of what Zoolander said:
Some of the editors on Dmoz (and other authority sites) are there explicitly to allow their own sites and mates sites in but not others (anyone can apply to be an editor). Hopefully search engines will realize this soon enough and prioritize good content over closed shop and kick them to the curb.
If you feel you need a Dmoz listing you could apply to be an editor. I don't think it holds a great deal of weight now though. You used to get a massive hit from both the authority of Dmoz itself and a bonus from every site that scraped it. The scrapes won't help any more and it seems that the overall weight of the listing is lessened. Combined with the hugely reduced numbers of human users there isn't the benefit there once was.

Thanks so much Host1!
Too bad, moving on.

Thanks! Was thinking that just maybe there was a general editor that you could nudge / backdoor form. Moving on!
-
Based on personal experience: Try to submit, then just move on. I've had a submission waiting for a couple of years as there seem to be no active editors left in that category. Doesn't help when they won't notify you if you are declined/approved either.

Move on or find one who takes bribes
To be honest, I have had no job getting sites in there for a long time now. Plus, it isn't the authority it once was.

What is the easiest and most scalable way to add links from one page to a related page entry?
We have a Spanish language reference site, and want to link related entries to each other. For example, the entry for "home" can link to the page with the entry for "home away from home." What is the best and most efficient way to do this at scale?

Is there any examples of comparing a competitors product to your own .
I'm working for a company that makes large touchscreen displays. I want to add some content to the site and target some competitor keywords by comparing some of our products to theirs. I know I've seen companies do this, I'm just trying to find a tasteful way to do this, and have it help bring in traffic.

If you were guest blogging would you prefer a link or revenue share
I am looking at ideas at the moment, we have been getting a large number of guest bloggers wanting to write for our site but i have to say we are turning down around 90% of the articles as they are low quality. So i am just wondering, to attract high quality articles, should we carry on offering a link in the articles or offer them revenue share by asking for their google adsense code and putting it somewhere on the page. If we did offer this, how would we impliment this, we work on a joomla website and have read about rev share but not sure how we do this correctly. Would like to know people's thoughts on this

How to encourage guest bloggers to link back
Hi, we have just started to allow guest bloggers on our site www.in2town.co.uk where we offer them two links within the articles, but what we would really like to do is to encourage them to link back to their articles. I am trying to find information on how we can encourage guest bloggers to link back and would love to hear your thoughts.

Duplicate external links?
I have been guest posting at a variety of reputable blogs in my niche. I generally write once or twice a month and have a bio link with a link to my blog. I'm wondering if multiple links from the same domain (but different pages) helps, or if there are some diminishing returns here. Should I only be writing one post for them? Of course, there are other non-SEO benefits too, because these are reputable sites. But I'm wondering how this helps my SEO? Thanks in advance!

Link juice from subdomain
Does having a blog on a subdomain as opposed to an extension of the root domain add or subtract to improving SEO on the root domain? For eg : what's better, HTTP://blog.durbansouthtoyota.co.za Or HTTP://www.durbansouthtoyota.co.za/blog When the www is the actual main site. Thanks!

Where is microdata (schema.org) already being used by major search engines?
I know Google recently launched their recipes search, but apart from this where else are you seeing microdata being used?

Should You Allow Off-Topic Links in Guest Posts
Hi Mozzers! Suppose you accept guest posts on your blog about marketing and a guest blogger wants to use the anchor text "outdoor clothing" in their bio. Is there a risk to my blog if I allow off-topic links in guest posts? Is there a risk that Google would consider guest post links as paid and apply a penalty? Thanks!
