How do you track new inbound links?
-
Hello Fellow SEOs,
I've been charged with managing and tracking my company's linkbuilding efforts. I'd love to hear from others experienced in this area:
-is there a way in OSE to sort links by date?
-if this isn't possible, how can you tell what new links come in every month? Is this a manual process of downloading and comparing inbound links every week? This seems pretty tedious and I would love to hear what you all do and if there is a better way.
I do have a Google Alert out for my company name, but that doesn't necessarily give me what I need.
Thank you!

Hi Jenny,
Thanks for writing in.
There isn't a way to sort by date in OSE because the index is updated to a new, current index with each update (usually about once a month) and it isn't compared against previous indexes, so each link in the current index has been discovered again that month, even if it has been in previous indexes. Technically, the way our index is created means that all of the links in the current index are "discovered" or "rediscovered" within the past 3-4 weeks. We don't retain historical link data in the index because we think it is important to show the most current data that we can so our index doesn't necessarily show you what are considered new link, just what would be considered current links.
We do show historical link metrics regarding the number of links and linking root domains in the link analysis section of the campaign web app, but I'm afraid that they don't show specific links in the historical section.
Let me know if you have any other questions about OSE.

Thanks, Kris! I didn't see an OSE team feature bucket, unless I missed that.
And unfortunately I don't have a paid AHREFS or Majestic account and the free tools are a little limiting.

Not sure on OSE but in both AHREFS and Majestic there is a "first discovered" date on links. Perhaps this should go in the feature request bucket for the OSE team?

Better link metrics, but lower rank??
Hello to all, new member here from Houston. I'm learning a lot! I've brought my site up some but my chief competitor is still at #1 position. I ran a full SERP report for my top keyword. My site appears to rank better on: Page Authority…Domain Authority…MozRank…MozTrust...DmT/DmR… Additionally, his on-page grade is F, mine is B! So, it appears sheer bulk incoming links are really where it's at. He beats me, somewhat, at URL Link Counts, also on Followed External Links. The real difference appears to be External Links to This Domain: I have 65, he has somehow managed to get 3500…I think his webmaster has a local directory where everybody links to each other…I can't imagine how a small biz like this, in a fairly non-competitive industry, could get that many. Anyway, thought I'd bring this up for comments/clarifications, if anyone has any---Also, is there a resource to understand these various parameters. Thanks--- John in Houston

OK Crawl Test Link Question Again!
I've downloaded a crawl test and column G Link Count reads 62 and yep there are a total of 62 links on the page in question. Column AM Internal Links reads 303 and yep there are somewhere in the order of 303 pages pointing at this one. Root Domains is surprisingly low at 6, so maybe there are only 6 domains linking to this page. BUT... External Links read 51. There are not 51 links pointing away from this domain on this page, no way hozay, so can anybody tell me what is meant by 'External Links? A humble thank you in anticipation of an education. Jem

When will links appear
When will links appear? Hi I submitted one of our products to a range of beauty bloggers and all of the reviews came back, really positive, along with links to our site. However when I run a back link report in open site explorer only one of these links is showing up even though the links all went live at about the same time. Can any one explain this in discrepancy?

My domain authority is 1, and I am not seeing any links to my site.
I know that there are links to my site, but nothing shows up. My website is www.mullinsgeoffrey.com. I have tried with and without the www. I am using wordpress for this site, but competitors are as well, and there authority seems fine. is there a hidden setting somewhere that is screwing things up?

Old Incoming Links Redirected to new pages are not Being Factored on the Open Site Explorer
Hi, My website has been online since 1994. We have old links pointing to pages that no longer exist so what we have done is to create redirects to the specific page where the content is being displayed now. However, when we use the Open Site Explorer, the linking root domains do not show those sites that contain old links pointing to our domain. One good example of this one is: dmoz.org. Am I improperly handling the redirects? Or, what do I have to do so that old links that are being redirected to the new pages where the information is are accounted when calculating domain authority and trust? Thanks, Alex
