Link in the footer
-
we have a sponsored link in the footer of a website, and since that footer is displayed on each page of that site, it shows that we have thousands of links coming from that site.
my question is : does Google consider this as spamming? and does it help us , harm us, or has no effect?
-
You're probably right. No-follow would be the best solution.
-
nofollow makes it safe because it takes away all PR being passed.
so if this is some sort of prominent button or link that brings you traffic and that is your objective then nofollow it.
If you are doing this for SEO (assume you are because this is a SEO community) it is not recommended to have sitewide footers and can get you penalized. I have seen it happen many times.
-
I would be really surprised if you were to be actually penalized for a sponsor link like this. Particularly if the site is not a super-spammy link fest, and related to your industry. What is more likely to happen is that the weight of those inbound links will be discounted -- they just won't give you much benefit from an SEO perspective.
But, if it is a worthwhile sponsorship, meaning you get customers from those referrals, then by all means keep it!
If you are really paranoid you could ask them to add a no follow attribute to the link to your site.
-
Yes lose it, you can get penalized for it. Is it only on that site and not a sponsored theme i hope? Ask them to make it a homepage only link and even better if they can put it in the content instead of the footer.
-
Yes... Google considers this as a spamming.
Read this blog, here you can know more about other bad link techniques : http://www.searchenginejournal.com/25-ways-to-get-penalized-in-2012/47245/. 9th point is about Footer Links.
Hope this will helps you..

Inbound link is follow link but we put no follow link back - is it beneficial for rankings?
Dear Moz Community, We are operating in a niche market, where there are not so many content marketing options. What we are left with are link exchanging with relevant sites that are on the same topic but to not directly compete with us. Now we know that if we link back to site A and site a links back to us - for google this is not a very good link. But, some of the sites we are exchanging links with, do not know the term follow vs no follow links. My question - if your link is to site A is a no follow link but they give us a follow link - does it mean thats a better option than a follow vs follow. Thanks for help!

Spam links - what would you do?
Hello, A few months back our website was hacked which we noticed quickly and got fixed. However, there still is a lot of dodgy backlinks, linking to the spam pages. They come up in Webmaster Tools, Moz and SEM rush. According to the Moz Spam tool, a few of them have been given 7 flags which Moz suggests gives a 30% chance of being penalised by Google. The website has great rankings (position 1-3 in most targeted keywords) so I am scared of doing something that will harm the rankings, however I also aware that Google may do an update which could take these spam links into account. I have no experience of using the disavow tool but from reading up about it, it should only be used as a last resort. So my question is - what would you do?

Sitewide links
Hi there, We operate about a dozen websites that are part of the same parent company. All these websites are in the same vertical, and link among each other in the footer section. The anchor for each link is the brand name, so we are merely doing it to show what other products the parent company has to offer. My question is: do you think this is still advisable, or it might trigger a penalty? Also, what would you choose between: Sitewide footer links from each site to the other sites. A single footer link on the homepage from each site to the other sites. A presentation page on each website, one click away from the homepage, which presents the company's other websites. Thanks.

When/ What Links to Disavow?
We have an older website started in 2000. We have thousands of backlinks which we believe are hurting us. Starting with Panda our site has been devastated, traffic wise, from a million + page views a month to 1/3 of that now. We've never solicited links, never paid for them, they just happened. It seems every "search engine" and spammy site on the web has links to us. Hundreds if not thousands from sites like , 29searchengines.com, 55 searchengines.net, and on and on.. 1. How does a site know when the links are harmful?

Link building too quickly
Hi all, I have recently started trialing to outsource some SEO to a 3rd party, who obviously promissed white hat techniques and manual links etc.. All has gone well for the first month. But on speeking to another expert they point out that the search engines will spot inconcistencies in link building and penalise me. I know there will not be a know ammount but as we stand at the moment, what is the current feeling of too fast. Links built for me in one month were 100 directory submissions 80 bookmarks 16 search engine submissions 15 Article submissions 46 forum links 10 local classified searches Is this too fast? , If to do I stop and create more inconsistency or continue at a similar rate. Of course quality of link will be an issue, but how much. Many thanks from SEO jnr

Build links through blogging?
Although my site is a wordpress site it presently has about as many static pages as blog posts. The site has a lot of directory links and is doing pretty good with a PR3 after about a year. When I first put the site up I had a well known blogging expert help me with the permalinks and a couple of other things and he said that with a blog there is no need to build links, it can all be done through natural link acquisition off of the blog posts. I was skeptical at the time because it seemed that a lawyer's site was something not a lot of people would be interested enough in to link to it. Now I am thinking about trying his stragegy, as 1 of my blog posts that I put up on a very topical subject immediately got about 15 backlinks. My questions are: Is it reasonable to try to build links just by posting frequent topical blog posts? If yes, should I have links in the blog posts to my home page, to internal pages, or both? \ Paul
