Bounce Rate at 45% - How to Improve?
-
Good Morning...
I've been reviewing my G analytics to try and figure out how to convert better, and I see that my site's avg bounce rate is at 45%...
What's the best way to improve bounce rate on my site and help convert visitors to customers?
Please let me know if you need any additional info about my site to try and help me get to the bottom of this...
Thanks a lot!

You might also want to consider using Google Analytics virtual pageviews and custom events for tracking of interactions on your site which are not tracked by default. This would include things like:
- Download of PDF or other 'non web page' files.
- Social media interactions ('likes' and 'shares')
- Clicks that show/hide content elements with CSS and/or JavaScript
Tracking these interactions in Google Analytics will lower your bounce rate, though obviously you would not actually be improving the user experience of your site. I think though, that having your bounce rate be affected by meaningful user interactions on your site like these will give you a better sense of what your 'true bounce rate' is (meaning, the percentage of users who come to your site and literally do nothing).

Generally, bounce rate means someone landed on your site and left, without visiting any other pages. To improve bounce rate you have to figure out why people are leaving. FIrst scenario: Someone landed on your site and did not find what they wanted. Second scenario: Someone got to your site, got their answer and left. In the first case, you are not answering their query, which means your page is not relevant to their search. In analytics you can look at your top Content and see which pages are the most visited. I would start here in order to identify which pages have the highest bounce rate. Make sure those pages give users what they are looking for. Not sure what industry you're in but I don't think 45% is necessarily bad, and bounce rates vary depending if it's a legal site, ecommerce, etc.
In the second scenario, if people find what they want and leave, then identify the action you want them to take. Sometimes, the only goal is for someone to call you and if you have good call-to-actions then maybe this is what's happening. If you are not converting then you have to dig deeper and identify what's going on. (Not certain, but I think you can use Funnels in Analytics to identify how users interact when on your site.) Make sure there are other elements on the page for users to contact you, visit your Facebook page, sign up for your newsletter, etc. Also look at your top keywords and make sure they are on target (relevant) for your pages.
This is assuming your site has good design, structure, etc.

I would need to see the site and where your traffic is coming from to try to help you.
Basically its either a problem with
1-your site and the user experience
2-Your traffic isnt targeted enough
3- Your industry//page has that type of bounce rate since they find what they are looking for quickly
4-Also see if some pages/ sources have a better bounce rate.

How can we improve our traffic?
Hi everyone, thanks for taking a look at this. We are looking at improving our traffic for our website. We are a tour company based in Thailand that caters to 18-25 year olds, mainly in the UK and USA. Our site is - http://www.starfishvolunteers.com/ A few years ago the now ex-team hired an SEO company who outsourced to a team in India. Things were considered to be going very well in terms of traffic but I suspect that a lot of it was shady link building tactics. The site was designed poorly, urls were a mess and there was a lot of misinformation on there. Fast forward a few years and there is a new team in place, we redesigned the site, added a blog & booking system, cleared out the misinformation and got ourselves a Moz Pro subscription. I only have Google search stats starting from 2013 and the total traffic (sessions) for that year was roughly 25,000. In 2014 traffic dropped to 19,000 and for the first five month of this year we are currently at 9,000. Obviously reduced traffic doesn't look good and we would very much like to get our numbers back up. We are tracking keywords in Moz and although we are ranking in the top 10 for a bunch of them the traffic just isn't going back up. Here are our thoughts on why we might be losing traffic - We're targeting the wrong keywords. We are being penalised. The competition overtook us. Right now we are at a bit of a loss because we don't know what direction to head in. Could it be our keywords? We would love to know what you think and sincerely appreciate the feedback. We will try and share any data that you think might be relevant or useful.

Improving the keyword ranking of a subject that we deal with only one or two months of the year
So I run a tip site based on the popular video game series Madden NFL. We also do NCAA and since I started getting invested in SEO, I noticed we aren't even in the top 50 for a lot of these results. What would be a good way to get started? Just throwing in some keywords that I want to be targeted?

Why are all my keywords rated "highly competitive"?
I am using the Keyword Analysis tool and it is telling me that almost all the keywords I put in are "highly competitive" even though there is very little competition on Google. Example: I enter the keyword "christian web designers" on Google, United Kingdom It then reports that this keyword is 53% Highly Competitive. However I Google this term in quotes and there is less then 4,000 results. I also enter this keyword into Traffic Travis which tells me the the difficulty is Relatively Easy. Am I doing something wrong here?

How can I do to improve ranking for head keywords?
Hi guys, I'm currently working for an italian restautant finder web site http://www.cibando.com The site currently do not rank for any of the cityName pages eventhough all this pages received a B grade in the on-page report card by Seo Moz and have a great amount of internal links. This is an example of the pages I'm speaking about: http://www.cibando.com/ita/ristoranti/milano/milano As I can changeso little on this page, I'm thinking about creatinng a new cityName page having this URL http://www.cibando.com/ita/ristoranti-milano in which I add some text about the city and the restaurants people can have dinner at and add some link to the currently cityName page and categoryCuisine page. Is it a good idea? Do oyu have any suggestions? Any expert out there give an insight? Thanks in advance. Francesca
