Robots.txt - What is the correct syntax?
-
Hello everyone
I have the following link:
http://mywebshop.dk/index.php?option=com_redshop&view=send_friend&pid=39&tmpl=component&Itemid=167
I want to prevent google from indiexing everything that is related to "view=send_friend"
The problem is that its giving me dublicate content, and the content of the links has no SEO value of any sort.
My problem is how i disallow it correctly via robots.txt
I tried this syntax:
Disallow: /view=send_friend/
However after doing a crawl on request the 200+ dublicate links that contains view=send_friend is still present in the CSV crawl report.
What is the correct syntax if i want to prevent google from indexing everything that is related to this kind of link?

I added your suggestion to robots.txt and requested a crawl again.
I only have 3 pages with dublicate page content now
So your suggestion seemes to have worked.
Thanks for your reply.. it worked!

you are right. misinterpreted the explanation. Apologies

Jarno,
The $ would suggest this parameter is always on the end of a URL. And within Henrik's example it's already somewhere in the middle of the URL.
-
Henrik,
i think you should be looking into something like this:
User-agent: Googlebot
Disallow: /*view=send_friend$hope this helps
Kind regards
Jarno

Hi Henrik,
I would suggest trying: Disallow: &view=send_friend
Optional you could try this without the & as I'm not sure this is always at the start of this parameter.Hope this helps!

Google Indexing Development Site Despite Robots.txt Block
Hi, A development site that has been set-up has the following Robots.txt file: User-agent: * Disallow: / In an attempt to block Google indexing the site, however this isn't the case and the development site has since been indexed. Any clues why this is or what I could do to resolve it? Thanks!

Google not pulling correct Meta Description
For some reason Google is not pulling the meta description for one of our key pages. Instead it just takes the first sentence from the page which makes the description horrible. Why would it be doing this if the meta tag field is populated?

Adding multi-language sitemaps to robots.txt
I am working on a revamped multi-language site that has moved to Magento. Each language runs off the core coding so there are no sub-directories per language. The developer has created sitemaps which have been uploaded to their respective GWT accounts. They have placed the sitemaps in new directories such as: /sitemap/uk/sitemap.xml /sitemap/de/sitemap.xml I want to add the sitemaps to the robots.txt but can't figure out how to do it. Also should they have placed the sitemaps in a single location with the file identifying each language: /sitemap/uk-sitemap.xml /sitemap/de-sitemap.xml What is the cleanest way of handling these sitemaps and can/should I get them on robots.txt?

Robots.txt
Google Webmaster Tools say our website's have low-quality pages, so we have created a robots.txt file and listed all URL’s that we want to remove from Google index. Is this enough for the solve problem?

"Extremely high number of URLs" warning for robots.txt blocked pages
I have a section of my site that is exclusively for tracking redirects for paid ads. All URLs under this path do a 302 redirect through our ad tracking system: http://www.mysite.com/trackingredirect/blue-widgets?ad_id=1234567 --302--> http://www.mysite.com/blue-widgets This path of the site is blocked by our robots.txt, and none of the pages show up for a site: search. User-agent: * Disallow: /trackingredirect However, I keep receiving messages in Google Webmaster Tools about an "extremely high number of URLs", and the URLs listed are in my redirect directory, which is ostensibly not indexed. If not by robots.txt, how can I keep Googlebot from wasting crawl time on these millions of /trackingredirect/ links?
