Why is the Site indexed?
-
Hi,
I'm trying to test a few things for which I've registered and set up new domains.
For the set up I used Wordpress.
Each Site has about three articles in it but no links pointing to them. Also I didn't take any measures to get my site indexed.
However, one week later all my sites were indexed. Why is that and how can it be?
I'm thankful for any answer since the problem is really ruining my test environment.
The only clue I have, as to why this could be happening, is that I didn't remove the ping sites. Is that the reason? Or are there also other reasons?
Thanks

I'd defiinitely recommend a password protect or IP included list at .htaccess. From experience I've found that Google tends to ignore no index when you're trying to keep a test environment under wraps. Even worse, if your site is large you can end up with visitors accessing this in error. Maybe add it to GWT but ensure that it is clearly marked to be excluded from the index. Add the .htaccess with an IP allowed list only and add the no-index clearly to each page.

What we do for our test environments is password protect the root directory with .htaccess, this can be a test directory on a live domain, or it can be the whole domain depending on needs. This works great when its just you and a handful of people who need access to the site.

It'll be because, as you say, you didn't stop them from being pinged. You should have set up the websites robot.txt to prevent any premature crawling. You can also do this in the WP dashboard, under settings, I believe.

How on Earth are These Sites Outranking Us?
Hello all, My colleague and I have been doing a lot of work to optimise our companies site (www.allseasonshire.eu/). The project is still massively work in progress. While we've been analysing the SERPs for KW's we're trying to rank for we've noticed two sites that are outranking us and we can't work out why. The sites in question are www(dot)nationwide-boilerhire(dot)co(dot)uk & and www(dot)nationwideboilerhire(dot)com. They're both very small sites, with hardly any content and basically zero external links pointing to them. When we compare the root domains in OSE our site comes out on top on every single competitive metric as well, most of them by a long shot. I'm just wondering if anyone can help shed some light on why these two sites would be appearing so high in SERPs and why they would be outranking us? Any input anyone has is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ryan Edit: Keyword in question is 'boiler hire'. Thanks for your answer Nishadha, would that alone really be enough though?

Why is this site at no.1?
In the last 2 months, a previously unranked/unheard of website jumped straight to no.1 position for a particular keyword when searched from USA and is even ranking over many other big brands or stronger DA/PA sites. I did notice some very strange JavaScript popup links that are heavily keyword linked from the first mention of the keyword on the page content. What are they trying to do here? Otherwise they don't seem to have much PA/DA or seo going on. Why are they doing so well?!

Site Architecture for a Services Company
Hey everyone, I'm doing the keyword research for a new virtual assistant services website that I am building. Being that there's almost a limitless number of services that a customer can outsource to a virtual assistant, I have a lot of service keyword options. Here's the problem: I don't know how to layout my services in a scalable fashion so that I can continue to add onto the services list (each with their own unique and helpful page) after the website is published. I have two options: 1. Create a service page with categories, each with links to the individual services. Like on my competitor: http://www.virtualemployee.com/services but with links to pages focused on the individual service keyword (ex. virtual receptionist services). 2. Don't have a services page, but include the services as blog posts like on my competitor's website: http://www.virtualstafffinder.com/blog. Obviously, the blog would be much more "scalable" in the terms of adding more services. It also reduces a lot of clutter on my website. However, it's not categorized like the average service or e-commerce website. Not sure if this is necessarily a bad thing. What do you think? Your help would be greatly appreciated!

SEO's done, 301s in place, old site STILL outranks new site. What to do?
Since Sep 2010 I have had a site up with minimal SEO optimization (www.chrisbrushmusic.com). Oct 29, 2012, I launched a new site on a new domain (www.chrisbrushdrums.com) with more content and tons of SEO work behind it. The content of the new site is significantly different from the old site, and I wish to keep the old site around. I have 301's in place for specific URLs on the old site that point to the new site. I have submitted xml sitemaps for the new site. As of now, the old site still outranks the new site (i.e. Google search for "nashville session drummer" and my old site is #9 - my new site is nowhere). What should I do? Thanks.

Search shows site links, but not hyperlinked?
2 of our competitors on Google have site links show in their results which brings you to that specific page. In our listing we show up with the same results a few spots behind them with our site links visible showing very similar content, but are not actually hyper linked. Is there a way to fix the issue and let people actually be able to click on our site links instead of just reading them?
