Using keywords targeted on one page, on another page?
-
This has been bugging me for awhile. I am trying to build up some great evergreen/cornerstone content for my site. It's basic stuff that just needs to be there. This problem is affecting me already, and I fear that when I get the main content done I will run into the problem when I start blogging for fresh content.
The best way to explain this, is to use an example. Imagine a Jewelry store in a major metro. They are already ranking for a few "city + keyword" combos but are looking to expand their keyword reach and get some better rankings. They might have a page on diamonds, and target "city + diamonds." Then, lets say they are writing about Jewelry and you target a page on "city + jewelry" and on this page, it can be hard to write normal sounding content without saying diamond. AKA "We make shopping for "city + jewelry" super easy. You select a diamond, select your "setting, city + jewelry, or something""
What I would like to know, is if I should go crazy with the targeting and just write about "city + jewelry" on one page, for instance, and make sure not to just mention "diamond" and then make a sub-page or something to target "city + diamond + jewelry"
Does any of that make sense?
Edit for clarity - targeted keyword phrases bolded - I left my ramble above for historical and comedic purposes.
It is hard to talk about jewelry without including some really (basic terms/keywords) that I am targeting on other pages. Is this going to be a problem?
I might have a page on engagement rings, and another on diamonds probably targeted to the local area.
Later, I might decide to write a blog titled "10 Reasons you need to buy an Engagement Ring"
Should I alter that blog to be called "10 Reasons you need to buy a Diamond Engagement Ring" and try not to mention just the word diamond(s) or engagement ring(s) so that I don't confuse the almighty Google?
Please advise

Haha don't worry, we're all guilty of thinking into things too much

Thanks so much for your quick and helpful answer. I have been knocking out content and I eventually decided to do a "write for users" approach, but I had the demon at the back of my mind wondering if all those juicy pages of text would get some search engine props.
Now that you've answered, it seems so simple. I did exactly as you described on the old version of the site. I use wordpress, and they have heaps of great plugins to make it all easier.
I think I was just thinking into this waaay too much. It would make sense that a link's anchor text would be more important to the page it pointed to, rather than the page it's on.

Ah, I think I follow you now.
You're always going to have to deal with a little keyword cannibalization with a blog about the stuff on your site. Otherwise you'd be restricted to using hardly any words at all, and certainly no words of relevance.
The solution is simple, write it however you want, targeting users and forget about cannibalization whilst you write it (just for the moment). Then, at the end... turn the keywords into anchor text links pointing to the pages you're using the keywords on. There, you have transformed a potential cannibalization issue into something positive for the pages in question

"Does any of that make sense?"
No, lol.
Could you clarify on the last paragraph.

Should I create additional pages for to try to rank for alternative keywords?
Hi I have my primary product page https://www.planacademy.com/primavera-p6-training/ - that ranks well for and is optimized for "primavera p6 training". However, I'd the same page to rank well "primavera p6 online course". Do I create another version of this page optimized for these different keywords? Or do I try to get the 1 page to rank for both? A bit confused here as to what to do. Thanks.

Potential Keyword Cannibalisation
Hi, I am concerned that our website's rankings are currently being affected by KW cannibalisation. We don't rank too badly for our target keywords but they could, of course, be better, especially as the niche is very competitive! One thing that is bothering me is that our internal pages do not rank well for these KWs and instead it is the homepage appearing in the rankings. This is despite the fact that the internal pages are optimised for the different keywords. Basically the HP is also targeting these same keywords and I was wondering if this is affecting our rankings overall? I am not keen to risk changing the homepage in case our rankings suffer massively and we drop out of Google completely. If anyone could offer some advice then that would be great. Is it simply a case of trying to get external links pointing to these internal pages? Would internal linking to them prove effective as well? Cheers Tom

What kind of SEO keywords should a recruitment company use?
I am relatively new to the world of SEO and have been given responsibility to improve SEO rankings for our company website (which is full of jobs). We are London based digital media recruiters and work in a number of niche industries. Should job titles be the keywords I try and optimise, as opposed to keywords such as 'digital media recruitment london', 'London digital marketing jobs', 'digital media recruiters in london' etc? Today I have signed up for a month's trial on Moz Pro so am hoping this will provide me with a lot of help as I start creating an SEO strategy, Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Keyword difficulty report - am I stupid??
Hi, Im a programmer but SEO newbie and I am trying out Moz Pro. To be honest I feel really disheartened right now, I find the world of SEO very difficult and full of conflicting information. Anyway, I am trying to get my head around the Keyword difficulty tool in order to determine what keyword I want to go after and what I would need to do in order to outrank the competitors. The website with the highest PA, most external links to the domain (4000 versus around 80-90), the most linking root domain and the best on page optimasations ranks nr 5. The website that ranks 1 is the only one with good social signals. All of the websites has the keyword in the page title. What am I missing? This makes no sense to me. Is this Keyword tool reliable? VERY grateful for any help from you guys.. /Emma

On Page OPtimisation Query
6 weeks ago, we attempted to improve the on page optimisation for the following keyword 'wedding venues ''edited''' on the following page: ''edited'' I just checked when the page was last crawled by google by checking the cache date in the SERPs which is the 27th of May 201?. We have been tracking the keyword 'wedding venues ''edited''' with the moz keyword ranking tool for the last little while and we've seen no real improvement, in fact we've dropped back a bit in the SERPs to 53rd (Moz says 'Not in top 50', it was 53rd when i last manually checked). I understand that we have to be building links to our site, but i still hoped we would be doing better than this for this keyword with the work we've done does anyone have any advice on how we can improve? Have we over optimised? We would really appreciate any help!

Keyword Analysis Tool
Can someone please enlighten me on the Keyword Analysis tool Matrix. Does Domain Linking refer to the number of links back to that domain as a whole? Also why is it that a page with a lower page ranking can be way ahead of one with a domain ranking that is way higher or vice-a -versa? What is a good number to go after? what is actually attainable? Thanks

Prioritizing Keywords
Hi Everyone, I've been using many of the articles to find out the best way to create a list of long tail keywords I wish to target. Anyway, I used Google AdWords Tool in order to find out how many Global/Local Searches per month, and the Keyword Difficulty Tool on this site in order to find the difficulty score. With these two metrics, I've compiled a good list, but I wanted to know how people prioritize keywords. I was thinking of creating a formula in excel in order to compare both the difficulty score and the amount of searches, but I wanted to know other people's advice and how they decided to prioritize the long tail keywords they compiled. I am still a bit of a newbie at this, so any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
