Keyword Cannibalization
-
How harmful can be a keyword cannibalization? And what is the solution to this problem?
-
You just need to ensure that there are set pages with relevant keywords for them, and don't cross the keywords with the other pages.
There's two SEOmoz articles on it by Rand from ages ago here:

Keyword cannibalization can occur if you have lots of pages on a single site that target the same keywords. That situation creates multiple pages on your site that compete with one another.
Google currently will display three, four or five pages in the SERPs for a single keyword from a single site - so if you can create three strong pages for a single keyword you might be able to get #1, #2 and #3 in the SERPs.
example (note how shop.nationalgeographic.com has three listings - ranking #2 through #4 as I view them here in the USA) (amazon has two pages here as I view that SERP)
If you have 10 pages targeting the same keyword then that is overkill because google will not display that many in any SERP. So some of those pages and the linkjuice that supports them is wasted - that is the harm that you asked about.
You would probably be better off combining information on those ten pages to make two or three more substantive pages or even one SuperKickAss page for the topic (which will probably rank better and pull a ton more longtail traffic)

Front page, keyword strategi?
Hi, Should the front page target a mixture of the most important keywords for the whole site (on page optimization)

Or should we choose 1 or a few that are extra important/natural and optimize for this?
Each important keyword already has it´s own dedicated page (single keyword optimized)
...so either way the front page would "compete" against another internal page on a specific keyword, but maybe that´s the wrong way of looking at this?
Almost all external backlinks are pointing to the front page so I guess that´s the real strength of the front page but it does not provide in depth good value for a specific keyword. Thanks!/Anders0 -

Using keywords in my URL: Doing a redirect to /keyword
My website in "On Page Grade" received an A.Anyway, I only have 1 thing to optimize:_"Use Keywords in your URL__Using your targeted keywords in the URL string adds relevancy to your page for search engine rankings, assists potential visitors identify the topic of your page from the URL, and provides SEO value when used as the anchor text of referring links."_My website is ranking in top10 for a super high competitive keyword and all my others competitors have the keyword on their domain, but not for my URL.Since I can't change my domain for fixing this suggestion, I would like to know what do you think about doing a 301 redirect from / to mydomainname.com/keyword/So the index of my website would be the /keyword.I don't know if this can make a damage to my SERP for the big change ir it would be a great choice.

My Meta Description changes when i use different keyword in google search.
Hello everyone, I have a question for the community. I have a website with several articles and news that i manage. I set specific meta descriptions for every page but when i search in google it gives me back different meta descriptions depending on the keyword that i use to search. What i notice is that google looks in my page for the most relevant part of the text that combines with my keyword and gives me back that result. I thought that this only happen when i have an empty meta description. Anyone felt the same ? Best Ricardo www.meuportalfinanceiro.pt

On my site, www.myagingfolks.com, only a small number of my pages appear to be indexed by google or yahoo. Is that due to not having an XML sitemap, keywords, or some other problem?
