Ongoing problems with Panda
Hey all, I’ve been following Moz Q&A for quite a few years. As we now are fighting with some huge problems, I think it is time to write my first post. Our French website http://bit.ly/1l0efCC has been struggling with the Google’s Pinguin and Panda algos for years now. At last we were hit by Panda on May this year. Over the last weeks we made several changes, both onpage and offpage. Unfortunately none of this has shown any impact yet. I therefor would be very grateful for any help you can provide. A recommendation for a good agency with much experience in SEO on the French market would also be very helpful. Our onpage problems and what we did so far: Overoptimization: During our analysis we realized that our site is strongly overoptimized. We therefor: Altered the titles and descriptions of all seo pages to make them more unique and less stuffed with keywords Changed the urls of our landing pages Changed our internal anchor texts Content quality: Some of our landing pages contain only little unique content and the text quality is low. To improve our content quality, we Made new, fresh, longer and much better texts for a few hundred pages We set up additional landing pages for relevant keywords with unique content We moved our blog from a subdomain to a folder Irrelevant content: Our system creates many pages with irrelevant content. To reduce the irrelevant pages indexed by Google, we aggregated our customer feedback pages and set up canonicals on thousands of pages for single customer feedbacks that refer to the aggregated pages. What we did offpage: We invested weeks to analyze each and every backlink to our site and in the end we had to remove a huge amount of these links. All this doesn’t seem to be enough though. There are some other things we are working on right now, but we are running out of ideas: We want to gather all pages (that can be indexed) and compare them to the pages that have had organic traffic in the past 3 month at all, to identify more useless pages. We then will remove, deindex or revise them. We are still doing content improvements on our existing pages The structure of our rendered site is different to the source text structure. We placed the most seo relevant parts of the page on top in the source code and then moved them around on the rendered page via css. Do you think this might give a spam signal to Google? We try to improve our design. But as we need to do a bunch of A/B tests before we can relaunch our site, this will take some time. We will change our internal link structure to have less links on every page and have a stronger thematically connection between them. I’m looking forward for your tips and ideas! Regards, Sandra

Recently recovered from Link Spam Penalty
Our ecommerce site recovered from a manual link spam penalty about a month ago, but the organic traffic is still very low. We are working on getting high quality links and high quality content for our site. Some people are saying that even if you recover from the penalty and build high quality links, etc.. the site will never recover. Is this true?, we are very discouraged by what others are telling us. ? I d appreciate any help or suggestion we can get here. Thank you.

What are inbound links worth after Panda and Penguin, since a site ranks for the NATIONAL keyword "outdoor furniture" with ONLY 7 INBOUND LINKS!?!?
ARE INBOUND LINKS TODAY ALMOST WORTHLESS??!!? After having been the KING of SEO, down to the toilet? Today I got a great sample from a fellow SEO professional showing a site, rockymountainfurniture.com rank for "outdoor furniture" with ONLY 7 INBOUND LINKS FROM 3 DOMAINS and a domain trust of 14!!!! ON A NATIONAL, VALUABLE, HIGH QUERY VOLUME KEYWORD!! I was stunned, but is this the "NEW SEO WORLD" we live in, so we should skip spending hundreds of hours on link building? There are over 32 different types of inbound links but this is much MORE than a radical change, this is turning SEO as it was up-side-down. Any input, thoughts, ideas?

I could use some help with Link Building Post Panda
I am new to Internet Marketing world and want to become a great SEO. My biggest challenge is How To of Back linking. Not the reason and theory behind back linking. But more the actual hands on Back linking strategy. I feel that a lot of the back linking information out there is so mixed.Rand did a White board Friday lesson on the new link building strategies. When searching for back linking strategies it is filled with all the old link building tactics. What I wanted to ask is all the experienced back link people is, Have you changed your back linking strategy. Or just parts of your strategies. It all seems very confusing for a newbie when it seems the industry it self is still uncertain. Any advice on where a newbie should be starting their new back linking strategy. And any good resources on learning to do the actual hands-on of the back linking. Thanks in advanced

Hit with Panda, but still confused
Back on March 24th I was hit with Panda. Pretty much all but my main keywords were hit and I was wiped off the board. Luckily I kept my rank with my main keyword which was part of my URL. I have been since trying to figure out what Google thought was spammy with my site. I made changes, but nothing changed except my main keyword. I have been confused as to why I still ranked well with my main keyword, but nothing else. I have read from several posts of others complaining about the same issue. Seeing some keyword rankings go down, but not all. I also have read that if Google thinks even one page is spammy it might effect my whole site. Today I found a couple pages that might have been contributing to the low rankings. I am a scrabble based site and I had several pages that listed many words related to things like 2 letter words, 3 letter words, words that end and start with. These pages would contain from hundreds to over a thousand words and I was linking them all to my dictionary look up portion of my site. I have some other sites that do the same thing but not nearly as much as my main site and they were still doing just fine. I had over 3500 pages giving me warnings in my Pro Account about to many links on a page, but I have been ignoring it because I felt I was helping my users by giving them a less step in having to type the word to search. I have removed all these links except I found a couple pages that were still doing it. I just removed them so hopefully that helps this time. My question is do I have to wait till the next panda refresh or just until the next time Google crawls my site to see the changes. UPDATE: it is not 1.24.2013 It's been a while since I asked this question and just wanted to fill in on the updates and things I have done since then to maybe give some hope to all you penguinizers. My site https://www.wordgamedictionary.com/ has changed quite a bit since I posted this original question. I was hit on April 24th with Penguin and just was racking my brain trying to figure out what I did to get there. Here is some advice I have learned since then. Be Patient - Its going to be a long road to recover from it (I am still recovering almost 1 year later, but I am recovering) Don't Freak Out - Yeah it sucks when you income drops 50% in a matter of overnight, but you can change that. Check your back links (Yes this is beating a dead horse with a stick, but it's true) On page anchor link text - Are they over miss used keywords? Change that. Make it look natural For goodness sake! check for spelling errors ADD FRESH CONTENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would say about something new at least once a week. 3 to 4 is good (unless you are Q and A then you will have much more). Think to yourself "What would keep me coming back to my site?" If you don't have it, they add it Back links are not going to come to you unless you are creative. Sitting there thinking they are going to fall on your lap is dreaming. Back linking is nessary to stay ontop, but you can get them naturally. Experiment a ton and take risks. The more risks you take, the better chance you will eventually succeed. Today I have almost fully recovered from Penguin, but what is awesome is that by taking the natural and pro active method to SEO I have actually increased my overall traffic to my site by double since April 24th. I am still recovering from the original keywords that I was hit at, but whats awesome is that I have gained so much traffic from other keywords that I ended up doubling my traffic. Tool based websites after Panda and Penguin
I have several sites that I classify as "tool" based sites. These type of sites includes anagram solvers for word games, ip address lookups and other various based tools. I like to specialize in these kind of sites because frankly I am not a blogger and hate to write. Before Panda I was doing fairly well, I had many users coming to my sites everyday. The Panda update "tips" that I read all over including on google sites seems to always refer to articles and how to deal with those. The only problem is that I am not an article based site. Yes I have content that describes my tools, but we are talking 1 to at most 2 paragraphs per page. I know Panda effected my ratings because I lost ranking with some big keywords. Since then I have been able to gain some ground, but I am having a hard time trying to figure out what exactly google wants from a site like me. The main path I am getting from Panda is concentrating on the users, and what will make their experience better. I focus on that whenever I make a change. I figure the easier I make it for them, the happier they are going to be. I am wondering what you guys think about some things I can look into creating or focusing on to enhance my site. I use social media heavily (FB, tweets, posterous, blog, RSS Feed) already, but is there something else I can look at that might help me that I am not seeing. I seem to be running out of ideas. Maybe add more content to my pages? Check link structure (its pretty basic as it is) add more article based blog posts? Just want some ideas, I will send my URL to anyone who wants to take a look and see what I may be missing. C

How do paid directories like thomasnet.com do so well in the serps? Aren't the Panda updates supposed to be moving us away from this?
With all of the updates/changes to Google's algo, I assumed that paid listings & links like those on thomasnet.com would have less merit. Is this an incorrect assumption?

Impact of Panda Algorithm Change on Articles Base.
I am a published author and researcher. All my articles are original content and high quality. If I am looking for backlinks by submitting high quality original articles to Articles Base, how will the panda algorithm change affect me? Should I be submitting articles somewhere else? If so, where? I greatly appreciate any suggestions you may have.
