Google Analytics
-
Hi Folks
I'm currently measuring multiple goals with Google analytics. At the end of the month I compare the Analytics numbers with my actual, from a diffident data base, and there is often a variance. My questions are;
1- Is there an accepted Delta % in goals eg: + or - 10%
2- Is there a resource that anybody found incredibly useful on this topic
3- does anybody have any tips on trouble shooting here?
Thank you in advance

Hi Ali,
While the contributors above make great points, it may be helpful to look into some resource info for more details. This won't provide you with a quick answer, but I found this book quite helpful in discussing issues on the discrepancies. Brian Clifton goes into quite a bit of detail in, "Advanced Web Metrics with Google Analytics". He addresses the points from the contributors above and quite a bit more.
best of luck.

but does this explain why the Google Analytics figures are always higher than actual?

David's answer is spot on. One thing he didn't mention is that it takes time for the goal javascripts to load. Many times, people who complete a transcation close the "Order Finished" page before the javascripts have a chance to load completely. Consequently, you are getting their conversion but it's not counting in the GA total.

Google Analytics
Goal 1 .... 237
Goal 2 .... 59
Goal 3 .... 3339According to our numbers
Goal 1 .... 222
Goal 2 .... 53
Goal 3 .... 2928 -
Just how different are the numbers? There are a number of possible reasons, including:
Google Analytics requires JavaScript, cookies and images to be enabled in the visitors browser in order to record visitor activity. It should be noted that there is an opt out plug-in for Google Analytics that will exclude visitors with the plugin installed from reporting their activity on your website.
Also, Google Analytics does not have a noscript section, so Google Analytics cannot track conversions for visitors with JavaScript disabled.

Multiple sites using same text - how to avoid Google duplicate content penalty?
Hi Mozers, my client located in Colorado is opening a similar (but not identical) clinic in California. Will Google penalize the new California site if we use text from our website that features his Colorado office? He runs the clinic in CO and will be a partner of the clinic in CA, so the CA clinic has his "permission" to use his original text. Eventually he hopes to go national, with multiple sites utilizing essentially the same text. Will Google penalize the new CA site for plagiarism and/or duplicate content? Or is there a way to tell Google, "hey Google, this new clinic is not ripping off my text"?

A campaign ghost keeps returning to my Google Analytics - Help!
A couple of campaign tracking links were created on my homepage (leading to internal pages), these were removed a few weeks ago (100% removed from the site). I understand there is a 6 month window and as long as a user returns (no matter from which source) they will be counted as a session against that campaign. Since these campaign links were set-up in error, I hoped creating a fresh new view within Google Analytics would stop them appearing. However they are still showing as sessions even in the new view (created after removing the campaign links in question). Is there anyway to stop this happening!? I want to be able to report on sessions correctly. Thanks, Sam

No cache meta tags - does it help Google get back and reindex faster?
I saw these meta tags on a site and am trying to figure out their benefit. These meta tags are on the home page, product pages, every page of the site. Will it cause search engine bots to come back and index pages faster? Will it cause slower page loading in browsers if nothing is cached? http-equiv="pragma" content="no-cache"/> http-equiv="cache-control" content="no-cache,no-store,must-revalidate"/> http-equiv="expires" content="0"/>

Advice needed: Google crawling for single page applicartions with java script
Hi Moz community,we have a single page application (enjoywishlist.com) with a lot of content in java script light boxes. There is a lot of valuable content embedded but google can not crawl the content and we can missing out on some opportunities as a result. I was wondering if someone was able to solve a similar issue (besides moving the content from the java script to the HTML body). There appears to be a few services sprouting up to handle single page applications and crawling in google.http://getseojs.com/https://prerender.io/Did anyone use these services? Some feedback would be much appreciated!ThanksAndreas

Does disabling the "View Source" functionality prevent Google from crawling a website?
I know Google uses a lot of variables when crawling a website. I wasn't sure if disabling the "View Source" option hindered anything.

Why is this page removed from Google & Bing indices?
This page has been removed from indices at Bing and Google, and I can't figure out why. http://www.pingg.com/occasion/weddings This page used to be in those indices There are plenty of internal links to it The rest of the site is fine It's not blocked by meta robots, robots.txt or canonical URL There's nothing else to suggest that the page is being penalized
