Moving content from one site to another
-
I have a couple established, content rich sites with some content that I would like to move over to a new site.
My question is what steps I need to take to ensure that neither my older sites nor newer sites are penalized for duplicate content.
The purpose for moving the content is to add some depth to the new site for users, as well as possibly optimize it all for SEO.
There is a fair amount of content involved, about 50 posts and pages per site, so I'd like to know if the potential problem with duplicate content might be serious enough that I should think twice.
What do you recommend?

I just want to add onto Takeshi's response. Google's Webmaster Blog has all the answers you need on how the Canonical Tag works.
A canonical tag is basically a tag you enter in the HTML to tell Google Bots that you want a page A to be indexed and not page B to avoid duplicate content.

If you are going to move content, include a canonical tag from the old content to the new content, and Google should be able to figure it out eventually.

Can I robots.txt an entire site to get rid of Duplicate content?
I am in the process of implementing Zendesk and will have two separate Zendesk sites with the same content to serve two separate user groups (for the same product-- B2B and B2C). Zendesk does not allow me the option to changed canonicals (nor meta tags). If I robots.txt one of the Zendesk sites, will that cover me for duplicate content with Google? Is that a good option? Is there a better option. I will also have to change some of the canonicals on my site (mysite.com) to use the zendesk canonicals (zendesk.mysite.com) to avoid duplicate content. Will I lose ranking by changing the established page canonicals on my site go to the new subdomain (only option offered through Zendesk)? Thank you.

Moving/deleting blog
I have a website with a blog attached to it. It is a wordpress blog which we have not updated since 2013. However, it has a lot of pages going back to 2010. I am moving my website to weebly so I can't move my blog over. I could recreate all the posts and make redirects to the new url. However, the posts are old and outdated so it doesn't really make sense, aside from seo. I need advice. Would I take an seo hit if i start over with a blog and leave the old posts behind? Thanks!!!

What is the best way to manage industry required duplicate Important Safety Information (ISI) content on every page of a site?
Hello SEOmozzer! I have recently joined a large pharmaceutical marketing company as our head SEO guru, and I've encountered a duplicate content related issue here that I'd like some help on. Because there is so much red tape in the pharmaceutical industry, there are A LOT of limitations on website content, medication and drug claims, etc. Because of this, it is required to have Important Safety Information (ISI) clearly stated on every page of the client's website (including the homepage). The information is generally pretty lengthy, and in some cases is longer than the non-ISI content on each page. Here is an example: http://www.xifaxan.com/ All content under the ISI header is required on each page. My questions are: How will this duplicated content on each page affect our on-page optimization scores in the eyes of search engines? Is Google seeing this simply as duplicated content on every page, or are they "smart" enough to understand that because it is a drug website, this is industry standard (and required)? Aside from creating more meaty, non-ISI content for the site, are there any other suggestions you have for handling this potentially harmful SEO situation? And in case you were going to suggest it, we cannot simply have an image of the content, as it may not be visible by all internet users. We've already looked into that 😉 Thanks in advance! Dylan

How could I avoid the "Duplicate Page Content" issue on the search result pages of a webshop site?
My webshop site was just crawled by Roger, and it found 683 "Duplicate Page Content" issues. Most of them are result pages of different product searches, that are not really identical, but very similar to each other. Do I have to worry about this? If yes, how could I make the search result pages different? IS there any solution for this? Thanks: Zoltan
