Hi, we are considering a new site revamp to go live in 3-4 months. How much effort should we put into fixing what is wrong with our current site? We are a new SEOmoz user. Thanks

From what Rand said on the last white board Friday, marketing and sites like yours are taking the biggest hit since post penguin update.
I would say for sure fix the current errors now but in the mean time it is a fact your new rankings will take time organically ...
So I would combine your new SEO campaign with a healthy and aggressive social attack as well.
Offering a great give away like play off basketball tickets or something else through your blog/facebook and drive the audience stimulation - this does nothing to much for rankings but HUGE for traffic and word of mouth. * the playoff tickets are a bit of an investment but paying off for clients of mine.
Start to push a lot of "fresh" content through a blog tied to your site and also be sure to post the Post URL to - Facebook, Twitter, Google + as they are imperative to a healthy algorithmic crawl.
Welcome to the SEO world ;o)

No. B2B software sales with long sales cycles. We also have to consider that we have multiple country domains for our brand.
Thanks for your help

Are you and E commerce site?
-
Thanks Steve. Good point. We are a B2B software provider and our landing page strategy and content is also a big focus. We're currently looking at marketing automation tools so that will also have to be factored into our decisions/evaluation.

New site CMS or design strategy will start soon. We are currently evaluating options. Any good suggestions would be helpful. The only CMS I've had experience with has been Wordpress. Thanks!

Are the problems fixed in the new site?
-
I would say to look at it from a business perspective... how much revenue is generated from your existing site and will does it justify fixing it for just a short period of time, or would you be better off using that time planning and researching to ensure the new site is as good as it can be?
-
Thanks Todd! Good point...From Crawl Diagnostic is it showing:
2,126 Errors:
- split evenly between Duplicate page content and page title
1,111 Warnings:
- 85 Long URLS
-557 overlly dynamic URL
-
146 Temporary redirect
-
14 element too short
-218 too many on-page linkes
- 83 missing meta description
Thanks again

Personally I would put a lot of effort into fixing what maybe wrong with your old site. This will help you in the transition so you can launch with a good presence. Can you clarify what you think is wrong with your site it maybe be helpful for other people to help answer this question.

Keyword Cannibalization vs. Optimizing Site
I am in the process of optimizing our website and I am having a hard time reconciling two best practices I have found on Moz. 1. You should avoid having multiple pages focus on the same keyword because you will lose some control of which result will show. 2. You should identify your core keywords and weave these keywords multiple times (naturally) throughout your site. I have spent months identifying our top 7 keywords and am working through the site now. The first piece of advice keeps giving me pause. Can anyone weigh in with other considerations or advice on how I can reconcile these two strategies. Thank you

Creating a .cn site with the existing site content
Hi all, I'm planning to create a .cn site. If I simply translate the existing content on my site (.com.au) into Chinese, do you think Google will see the .cn site as a duplicate of the main site? Will this cause any duplicate content issues? Thanks

Could you double check my new product markups?
Hey Mozzers! We are currently running a Google Shopping Ad campaign and one of the suggestions we had gotten from Google was to add product markups. I hired a developer to add the product markup to the product page templates (Magento, if it matters) and I just need help to double check his work before I approve and pay the final invoice. I've attached a screenshot of the page source with the item markups. I've also dropped the page source into Structured Data Testing Tool to see if there were any warnings. No warnings or errors. So it seems as if everything looks good, but I just wonder if it's a similar approach to SEO where the product markups could be better optimized. Thanks for the expert eyes on this! ruKjc

Too Many On-Page Links Reported By SEOmoz
Hi, I recently did run a crawl report for my blog dapazze.com, and found that SEOmoz is reporting many pages on my blog having more than 100 internal links. I opened OSE, and made a search for one of my pages which was reported to contain more than 100 links. And I found it to contain 464 internal links. Here is the link: http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/links?page=1&site=dapazze.com%2F2012%2F10%2Fwin-a-commentluv-premium-single-site-and-multi-site-license-worth-about-154-giveaway-of-october%2F&sort=page_authority&filter=&source=internal&target=page&group=0 Please have a look at it. I have chosen - Show "All" links from "only internal" pages to "this page" option in OSE, which reports me this. I see almost every page in my blog linking to every page. This is not the problem for me. I have also tried to make a search for some popular bloggers, like ProBlogger.net, ShoutMeLoud.com, HellBoundBloggers.com, etc, and all of them have the same problem. Should I be worrying about this problem? What is the problem actually?

Is this new? Anchors showing in Serps.
I was checking out a keyword today and I noticed several listings on Google that had a line underneath that said, "Jump to keyword". The "keyword" was an href name anchor on the page. Is this new? Should we be including more anchors on our pages now? It makes sense as it helps the reader to navigate the page. Here is a photo of an example: 7XwaQ

Best site structure for SEO
Hi, I'm currently in the process of redesigning/rebuilding a well ranking but a dated looking and structured website. Using analytics info I'm trying to put togerther an optimied site map plan for the site based on keywords. Currently the site is structured like this (a few examples) for some of its best ranking keywords / landing pages www.companyname.co.uk/frames/software/companyname-software/keyword/overview.php www.companyname.co.uk/frames/software/companyname-software/keyword/keyword.php I'd like to simplfy this as part of the re build so url's look like this www.companyname.co.uk/companyname-software/softwarecatogry/keyword Obviously I would 201 the old urls. My question is : A. is this a good idea? (From what I've read it is?) B. is there any benifit from having the company name repeated in the url (ie www.companyname.co.uk/companyname-software). My thinking before this is that companyname-software currently ranks well and brings a good amount of traffic. Or should I just go with www.companyname.co.uk/software/softwarecatogry/keyword as opposed to www.companyname.co.uk/companyname-software/softwarecatogry/keyword? Many thanks in advance!
