Can you get local search numbers/traffic out of Google Analytics?

With Google's new local search I am more curious as to market penetration on keywords that are now localized to my different US cities. I understand that you can separate out Google traffic based on regional Google domains, but I am curious if there is an effective way to separate out searches and keywords based on a my local US Metros?

If google cannot do this, any recommendations on products that can?

Yes Google Analytics can do this and it isn't too hard to implement. Log in to your analytics dashboard of the site you want to do this on. Click on Custom Reporting---->Manage Custom Reports. In the new window, click on + Create new custom report.

In blue you will have metrics (like users) and in green you will have dimensions (like location and keyword.) To make the custom report you want, go under the green dimensions heading on the left. Click the arrow under traffic sources and then find keyword in the list. Drag it over to the first green dotted box that says sub dimension.

Now click on visitors under the green dimensions title on the left. Scroll down until you see city. Drag that over to the next dotted green box that says sub dimension.

If you are trying to see how many visitors you get for a certain keyword by city, then the last thing to do is go to the left, under the blue metrics title click on Site Usage. Scroll down until you see visitors, or unique visitors if you prefer that metric. Drag it over to the blue dotted box that says metric. Click on preview report to have a look.

You will see a list of keywords on the left and the number of unique visitors for that keyword on the right. Click any keyword. Now you will see a list of cities/metro locations. The number to the right is how many people in that city came to your site through the keyword you just clicked on. I believe this is what you are trying to find, and analytics works great in making this report easy to create.
