Site Map
-
For a long time our site map used to be
http://www.efurniturehouse.com/sitemap.xml
recently our hosting company changed the site map to:
http://www.efurniturehouse.com/xml-sitemap.ashx
I went ahead and submitted the new site maps to both Google Webmaster and Bing.
I submitted the Google one on Monday and it states PENDING. ( A day later this pending)
I just submitted the map to Bing.
I now have 2 site maps on each.
1)Is having 2 a problem
- Will they ignore the old site map or can we delete and if so when can we delete
I appreciate your input
Regards
Tony

Thank you.
We are still waiting on Google to Change PENDING
As for bing, it was simply fast SUCCESS

Remove the references to the old sitemap in your robots.txt (if there) and in your webmaster tools. Delete the old sitemap off of the server.
Run the test to make sure Google is reporting no errors or warnings.

1)Is having 2 a problem
Nope.
- Will they ignore the old site map or can we delete and if so when can we delete
They'll look at both. As long as the new one gets crawled, then you can remove the first one (as long as all the links are there)

Our client's site was owned by former employee who took over the site. What should be done? Is there a way to preserve all the SEO work?
A client had a member of the team leave on bad terms. This wasn't something that was conveyed to us at all, but recently it came up when the distraught former employee took control of the domain and locked everyone out. At first, this was assumed to be a hack, but eventually it was revealed that one of the company starters who unhappily left the team owned the domain all along and is now holding it hostage. Here's the breakdown: -Every page aside from the homepage is now gone and serving a 404 response code -The site is out of our control -The former employee is asking for a $1 million ransom to sell the domain back -The homepage is a "countdown clock" that isn't actively counting down, but claims that something exciting is happening in 3 days and lists a contact email. The question is how we can save the client's traffic through all this turmoil. Whether buying a similar domain and starting from square one and hoping we can later redirect the old site's pages after getting it back. Or maybe we have a legal claim here that we do not see even though the individual is now the owner of the site. Perhaps there's a way to redirect the now defunct pages to a new site somehow? Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Ranking Multi-Language Site
Recently we updated our website to a new version. Our website has a structure in which the English page is our main page with about 50 subpages. All these pages are translated in 5 different languages. The different languages are divided into folders. For example www.ourdomain.com/de containts all german pages. The pages with products would be for example: www.ourdomain.com/products for english and www.ourdomain.com/de/produkte for the german page. On our previous website this used to be simililar. After the website update the SEOMoz crawls are showning duplicated page content/title errors for the pages saying that the pages in other languages have the same content/title as the basis English webpage. Any idea how I can solve these errors?

One large site or a few microsites?
Hi, I have a client who runs a professional expo company and wants to redo his website. Right now he has one website that has the following sections: expo company info, wedding show info, electrical wire show info, fishing show info. My question is, when I rebuild the site would it be better to do one site or four microsites?

ECommerce site - Duplicate pages problem.
We have an eCommerce site with multiple products being displayed on a number of pages. We use rel="next" and rel="prev" and have a display ALL which I understand Google should automatically be able to find. Should we also being using a Canonical tag as well to tell google to give authority to the first page or the All Pages. Or was the use of the next and prev rel tags that we currently do adequate. We currently display 20 products per page, we were thinking of increasing this to make fewer pages but they would be better as this which would make some later product pages redundant . If we add 301 redirects on the redundant pages, does anyone know of the sort of impact this might cause to traffic and seo ?. General thoughts if anyone has similar problems welcome

Redirecting one ecommerce site to another
Hi I'm planning to redirect one large ecommerce site to another. Here's how I was thinking of doing it: crawl both sites with Xenu and export urls to a CSV match urls where possible, redirecting pages from site A to relevant ones in site B all others will be redirected to site B's home page Now, I'm dealing with thousands of URLs here, so any way to make it easier would be great. Could this mean just redirecting all of Site A's pages to Site B's homepage would be worth it? Or does redirecting relevant pages where possible seem the best idea? Thanks guys!
