Reciprocal links

I've heard that reciprocal links don't count anymore. If i stop linking to a person that links to me, will that link to my website start counting?
Do reciprocal links count at all in google? Anchor text? anything?

This is a solid explanation and really, we just have to exercise common sense.
If you are exchanging links to the site as it provides value to visitors of both sites visitor then great, if you are exchanging links to somehow manipulate the search results, well, not so great.
Ultimately, if you are doing this for search engines, that is definately not going to help and it could certainly hurt now or down the road if Google gets even more antsy regarding link based SERP manipulation.

Yes, this is correct. Actively pursuing reciprocal links should be discouraged. Using them in moderation when it makes sense, is okay. If used excessively Google may penalize you for un-natural linking.

I have always stayed away from having too many reciprocal links on our sites. It is my understanding the effectiveness of such links are not as effective as they once were and too many such links can be damaging. The reciprocal links we do have are few but very relevant to our product. I think the key word is relevant. I would certainly like to hear more on this subject from some of the more experienced community.

I think you know this but for others I'll explain it a little. A reciprocal link is basically a link trade (you link to me I'll link to you). Google has cracked down on the link farms, token rings, etc. because really when you think about, participating in wide sweeping link exchanges is done only for the purpose gaining search engine ranking.
But reciprocal links when used appropriately are okay. For example I could link to a paintball gun site that links to my paintball blog. There is no problem with this, we are both in the same industry working together.
To answer your question, removing your link to the website really doesn't mean much. The only criteria I would be evaluating for doing this would be is "is this site worth linking to? do my users need to know about this site? If the link adds value to your users leave it there, if not remove it.
And the second question, yes reciprocal links count in Google and anchor text.

We're looking at providing SEO for a website that has the majority of its incoming links from websites created solely to provide links. Few have bad spam rankings. How worried should I be about those links?
The majority of incoming links to a prospect's website are from website pages apparently created solely to provide links to the website. Few have high spam scores. The sites linking to the main site have versions of blogs with linked text. They seem to be providing positive SEO value now, but I'm concerned they might get noticed and hurt the main site in the future.

We like most are struggling to link build this year in line with Google guidelines. First step for us is a back link clean up then a really thorough competitor analysis to see what the competitors have that we may wish to emulate. We also ask the clients to provide us with information about their associations, memberships, suppliers, partners etc so we can see if there is synergy to get them a decent link from sites in their immediate orbit.
After that we produce some excellent content but getting it published, particularly with a follow link, is just getting harder and harder. We are also a PR agency so we encourage the clients to 'think out of the box' with regard to a PR campaign. It is fair to say that most clients don't understand what we are trying to do and don't have the stomach to be different.
I was wondering if anyone else did anything different, any fabulous ideas we are missing?
Also is anyone still submitting content to Ezine articles? They are incredibly picky about unique content, grammar etc but is it/will it still be grouped in with the article link farms?
Any advice much appreciated.

India and Link Building
A client of mine has decided to work all Link Building through an India team that she's used for a few years. The problem that I'm having with this situation is that the link building list below contains quite a few 0/10 PR websites, spam websites, and websites that have no direct relation to the client's industry. Am I wrong in thinking that link building should be done to high PR, authoritative sites that are related the the client's industry? Resource linking
Is a resource linking page a good way to build backlinks? Do I need to ask permission of the site I am linking? & If do build a resource page do I have to keep in mind keyword density rule, not to stuff too many links on page? I see one of my competitors using a "resource page" and linking to some high athority sites, (which I know they have not asked permission) b/c they are big name site, NFL, NHL, ESPN etc. Any suggestions much appreciated! Now, I checked in open explorer that this site has many moderate level links. No high authority links but the problem is these links they all have title as the search keyword "detective in Gujarat" so maybe this is why this site rests on the top of this search keyword. So if building authority links into a different domain(Not detective related) with very high PR but WITHOUT title of relevancy. Anchor text would be the keyword but not the title of page. Finding links online that already exist as link juice based on search results
I'm curious about this, I can't find anything on the net that talks about it. I wrote an article about it on squidoo and have had no responses so I am thinking this is very rare subject. The question is I have done some backlink research with my competitors with linkdetective.com and found many links (even follow ones) related to sites that provide search results. Here are a link about what I am talking about as an example, I have found many more besides this one. http://search.lphant.com/es/webResults.html?q=free%20scrabble%20dictionary&hl=en&page=1&src=hmp_es&ref=1 My site appears in those results. When looking at the source there is no "nofollow". I found this page because linkdetective.com had this link listed pointing to my competitor. Are these valid backlinks? What I have been doing is adding these links to http://www.google.com/addurl so that Google knows about them. Is there something I am missing or are these valid?
