On-Page Keyword Optimization Question
-
First let me say I want to improve the text of the site I am working on focusing on the site visitor in the first instance.
I run the "On-Page Keyword Optimization"
The page fails on "Avoid Keyword Stuffing in Document... ...Occurrences of Keyword 48" well over the limit of 15.
The occurrence include those in the site navigation and strapline, but it was my understanding that Google was aware of nav areas/areas common to most other pages on the site and that keywords in these areas weren't viewed as being part of the page content.
The keyword is the main keyword for the company, and the page is the home page i.e. "acme widgets" the others are "acme widgets for the home"... well you get the idea:
The page breaks down as follows:
- 5 instances in primary nav
- 1 instance strapline
- 3 instances secondary nav
- Remainder in page body
I am told by the tool to reduce to 15 instances, so should I?
- Have 9 instances in the nav and other areas and 6 or so on the page
- Have 9 instances in the nav and other areas and 15 or so on the page

Yes, they give the content area the most weight in regard to individual page topical focus, however search engines do evaluate every word on a page, including content within the source view that visitors don't see. This is why having too much content in header, sidebar and footer areas, or too much code at the source view level causes topical confusion / topical dilution and is considered during the duplicate content evaluation process as well.
The best I can offer in regard to how often a phrase should appear on a page is "does this feel like I repeat this phrase too much?" If you've got the same phrase repeated fifteen times just in the content area, there should be a valid reason other than just SEO reasoning for that. And a LOT of text around those.

If this is the only criteria that your page is failing on, i wouldn't worry about it too much.
If you think having 48 occurences of your keyword is beneficial to the user of the site i would leave it as is.
edit: From your info above it would suggest that you have 39 occurences in the body of your text. This does actually sound a little bit over the top. If you're able to get this down to around 6 i think your customers would find you content more useful.

Lots of 404s listed in Top Pages by Page Authority
Hi guys, I'm slowly getting to grips with all the aspects of using Moz.

Looking at my link analysis, under the tab labelled Top Pages by Page Authority, there's an awful lot of 404 pages listed. Are these pages which are being linked to (either internally or externally), and should I put a 301 redirect on all the pages listed? I've attached a picture... moz-screen-shot.jpg0 -
Accurate Google Keyword Ranking for a domain
Hi Folks, SEO N00b here, in a new job so please go easy on me if i ask stupid questions. I'm looking for some clarification on Google Keyword rankings. I am looking for accurate Google Keywords rankings as when I log into Google Webmaster Tools I am given values like (6-10) for a ranking? When I used SEOMoz (Research Tools -> Keyword & Ranking -> Rank Tracker) it gives me an even less accurate range by simply saying >#50?Why is SEOMoz giving a completely useless metric? Why is its actual rank not shown? I know rankings are becoming less useful as a metric with Google moving toward personalized search but I still have reports to deliver to clients so the conversation of what metrics are going in the report is to be had another day. Right now I just want to get accurate rankings, from what I've found online Google Webmaster tools is recommended as the de-facto ranking tool but it doesn't provide accurate results so how can that be (yes I know it averages out the ranking but 6-10 is a range of values not a single value that represents an average) Dave

SeoMoz keyword page grader report card
Hi Ive recently 301 redirected old pages/urls to new pages/urls due to a site redesign. The seomoz kw report card is still reporting the old urls though with a significantly reduced score for most pages (i.e. from A's to now C's, from B to now D's etc). Does this mean mozbot is following the 301's & its actually the new urls being graded as such or is it referring to the old pages ? I will be adding the new urls to report card shortly but just interested in clarifying the above since i would have thought, if it is the old pages, they would not be reporting any score for those, or its scoring the new pages ? Many Thanks Dan

Being new here I'm pressing all sorts of buttons and breaking things... I posted a question, liked someone's answer so click "good answer" thinking it was like a "thumbs up" but it actually set my question to "answered". How does one set their own question to un-answered?

Can I do a campaign for just a page?
We've been doing a lot of building and work on just one category page, but when i try to put it in the campaign it won't let me do any url that has a sub folder like www.mainsite.com/keyword-page. I can only do www.mainsite.com, and when i select the other campaign options like root domain or sub folder, roger pops up with an error. Is anyone else having this problem?
