Is it better to have a blog under your main website's domain or should the company's blog have its own domain?
And if the blog is on its own domain, do links to the main site look good or bad to Google?
Thanks! (And please feel free to add any other related advice you might have...)

If your main domain ranks very well, and your blog on a separate domain and separate IP ranks well (presuming the blog has link juice of it's own), here's what I would consider:
1. How competitive is the niche you are trying to rank ? I am presuming it's finance based of your profile.
2. If you created 2 articles, similar topics and posted 1 on the blog and 1 on the website, which would rank better and why.
If the page on your site outranks your blog page, for same/similar keywords, you should consider merging the blog into your main website and do 301 redirects from the blog to your new URL.
EG:
RewriteRule (.*) http://www.newdomain.com/blog/$1
I hope this helps.

Thank you for your responses!
I have a corollary question- if the blog is on a different domain does that make links from the blog to the main site more valuable (because they are not internal links) or is it a negative (seen as unnatural link building), assuming the blog ranks decently on its own?
And if the answer is still that it's best that the blog be on the parent domain, what would be the best way to move an existing outside blog in?

Linda, if the content on the blog is going to be a very very targetted content for your website audience, I would suggest putting it on yourcompanydomain.com/blog.

I hope these help.

It should be on the same domain if you want links to your blog to benefit your main site, and vice versa. If you have your blog on a separate site, Google will treat them as two separate sites.

1000's Backlinks from ONE Root Domain - Positive or negative?
One of my website's link is placed over a comment. This website has a "recent comments" section in the footer which is hence appearing on all the websites pages. All tools including - Google Search Console, Majestic and MOZ are showing 45000+ links from that root domain. Questions: Are these links harmful to my rankings? Should I get all those links disavowed? Should I disavow the root domain or leave the link that lies on the home page? What if there are up to 10 links coming from a domain? is that harmful too? Apart from disavowing, is there any other option to get this fixed? If at all this counts as an issue... Thanks in advance!!

Links in other language than site's language
I have a quick question regarding usage of links in my articles or website. As I already told in my last night question, I drive 2 french blogs. I'm wondering if putting on english sites links in my articles or pages to add complimentary infos on a particular topic would be useful or messy for my SEO. In other words, will Google be misled by the fact that I write in french and that I put english links ot ressources in my texts even if they are on a related topic

Should we use 'disavow' if we dramatically dropped serps after Oct 5th, but did not receive a warning?
We dramatically dropped serps after Oct 5th, but did not receive a warning about bad links on google webmasters. Is it a good idea to find and collect the worst links and disavow them? As there was no warning we can only guess links were the problem, but it seems likely. However we do not want to send any requests to google if no warning was sent. Can disavow be used in this way, or should we do more manually? (We are hoping remove links + increase very solid links + optimize for key words will help revive serps) Many thanks. James

Blog Comments
We all get them ... spam blog comments. People do it to get link value back to their site. Recently, someone approached me to do this for our site but on niche sites that are related to our content and to provide good valueable comments within a blog post of about 100 words each, and genuinely try to engage. They also were talking about finding blogs that have "follow" links in their comments space, since most do not. I still declined it because it is somewhat 'grey-hat' rather than 'white-hat' linking, and we want to be above-board on everything. Although we personally declined this approach, I'm curious your thoughts though on whether gaining links from blog comments from related, niche sites is a good idea. Like this question? Give us a Big Thumbs Up! Thank you!
