Still getting 404 after re-directs

Hi Guys,

I have joined SEO moz yesterday and ran a report and saw that I needed to redirect some old Urls - I have done this but still get the 404s.

You can see from the report that the following are redirected to the homepage but still show up as 404s on the page. Examples:

http://www.optimise-website-marketing.com/what-is-cro/

You need to give SEOmoz time to recrawl your page. Watch the blog for the next index update. It happens about once each month.

Getting the Titles and Headings Right on Product Pages. Userbility vs SEO

Hey Mozzers, I am optimising a chaotic section of the site including many similar products. Writing unique content etc. The titles and urls were all over the place so my first job was to tidy them up so I could make some sense of the situation, especially as sometimes they didn't even match! I should point out were on Magento, so product name = Both the Heading and Title of the page, the meta title can be set separately. When i refer to title I mean both <title>and <h1> Before they existed as such URL: domain.com/200-x-0-5-g-rs-232-balance.html TItle: PC-1234 200 x 0.5g x 0.3 RS-232 Balance This format was (Product Code, Capacities, Resolutions, Accuracy, Product Title) The issue was all 60 products in a page followed this format. Navigating through the page was a nightmare and was just a jumble of numbers and highly confusing even to me who learnt what they all mean, especially when you had 8 products from the same range you got presented with APC-1234 200 x 0.5g x 0.3 RS-232 Balance APC-1235 500 x 1g x 0.3 RS-232 Balance APC-1236 1000 x 2g x 0.3 RS-232 Balance APC-1238 5000 x 10g x 0.3 RS-232 Balance APC-1239 10000 x 15g x 0.3 RS-232 Balance APC-1210 20000 x 25g x 0.3 RS-232 Balance APC-1211 50000 x 50g x 0.3 RS-232 Balance I changed them to something more user friendly. URL: domain.com/200g-precision-balance.html Title: 200g Precision Balance This has seen the following benefits - URL is now clear and means something to the user - Product titles are easy to navigate and the page is more pleasing to the eye - The jumble of numbers in the title are now all labelled and shown below each product listing in bullet point so the user can see the basic spec of a product without having to decipher any titles Upon reflection I has a couple of concerns I was hoping you could discuss, I am wondering if I have made the titles too simple. 1) I have no product code in the title We have our own products manufactured and sell existing brands with their own product codes. Some of these can be lengthy. Adding them makes them hard to the eye and the page looked cramped. The codes are listed beneath each product title on category pages and on a list on the actual product page, but no where in the titles. 2)None of our products have a brand listed in the title None of the products on the site had brand names in anything but the images when i started and as such it snuck under my radar. But should i pre-fix all titles with a brand name? Should URL: domain.com/200g-precision-balance.html Title: 200g Precision Balance become URL: domain.com/BRAND1-200g-precision-balance.html Title: BRAND1 200g Precision Balance My instinct tells me to change things to include brands as its useful to the customer and should have an SEO benefit, but to leave out product codes as they are accessible to the customer where they are now and dont make things messy and unreadable. Why would changing 404 pages increase traffic by 9%?

Neil Patel claimed in this article that by creating a custom 404 page that links out to 25 to 50 random internal pages on the website, he was able to increase the traffic of Techcrunch by 9%. I'm a bit skeptical about this claim. A couple of questions: Is this theory sound? If you've personally tried this or have read other articles supporting Neil, I'd love to learn more. Would a big site like Techcrunch really have problems with Google not indexing all of its pages? Also, does getting more pages crawled help you get more traffic? Specifically, would it help a site like mine? For reference, my site gets an average of 12,040 pages crawled per day in last 90 days. Currently 28,922 pages have been indexed. Are there any possible downsides to trying this? Thanks!

Yoast SEO sitemap link 404 problem

I have recently moved my wordpress blog from a subdomain into a directory e.g. www.mysite.com/blog/ and installed yeast SEO however when I go to the site map as directed in the pluign panel www.mysite.com/blog/sitemap_index.xml its not there are I get a 404 error? Any help much appreciated.

How to re-follow using the WPSEO plugin

Hello, I unindexed numerous blog low quality blog posts and nofollowed them at the same time using the Advanced meta tab for the Yoast WPSEO plugin. I am trying to reindex them, which I figured out and can successfully do, What I cannot figure out is these posts will not return to follow status and remain nofollow. I have been recreating the blog posts, but this is very time consuming. Is there some way to do this without have to reduplicate a new blog post? I Googled this and searched MOZ with no luck. thank you Mike

Please give me advice on how to get this page back into search engines

Before we had our site www.in2town.co.uk upgraded, we had this section on the first page of google and even though it does not badly with other search engines, with google we are not in the top fifty. the page is http://www.in2town.co.uk/gastric-band-hypnotherapy i would be so grateful for advice on how to get this section back into google i am also concerned that i have a category called gastric band hypnotherapy, what i mean is, http://www.in2town.co.uk/gastric-band-hypnotherapy/crash-diets-can-damage-your-health-says-gastric-band-hypnosis-expert as you can see from above, we have the category name which is gastric band hypnotherapy and then the article name, just wondering if this is damaging us. any help to sort our ranking issue our would be amazing

Source page leading to a 404 pages in reports

Hi everybody, I wonder how to find and quickly correct 404 errors in my crawl reports : SeoMoz says me "http://domain.com/this-page-is-dead" is 404, but I can't figure out a source page where a link to that url appears. I tried a google link:http://domain.com/this-page-is-dead request, with no more luck. I imagine the trick is trivial, but I need it 🙂 Moreover, why do not show a list of pages referring to this 404 page on reports ? Thanks, Loïc
