Content vs articles vs blogs is there a difference?
-
I was wondering is there really a difference between website content, articles or blogs and most important do search engines see it differently?
My website is pretty much an ecommerce site and most of my long text is on my blog. The only other pages that have much content is the homepage, all the other pages may have a paragraph. I am just wondering if i need to make more actual pages with text/content or is having my blogs good enough? I am no expert in seo and just wondering if i am wasting too much money on getting blogs written or should i get more content.
Content being a page called commercial printing and blog being a page called why do do i need commercial printing? Also would it matter to the users who find the site? Would the users come to my site just looking for information or would they actually think of me for the service?

When you say blogs do you mean blog posts?
I would think that they are all one in the same as far as search engines are concerned if you run everything off the same domain.
Blog posts are a very easy way for an e-commerce site to build new content, write articles and attract new visitors. Look at your stats to see how many visitors are hitting your blog posts.
Where applicable, from your blog posts - refer visitors to relevant content/products on the e-commerce side of your site.

Topclass,
I would suggest creating some pages where content could live permanently. I don't think Google et al are going to give or take away extra points because of the word "blog" directly. What may happen though is the people coming to your site will assume the blog only contains news or time sensitive information. So when the engines are watching that all important "user engagement" experience, your users aren't sticking around because they can't find the information where they expect it to be.
Having a permanent page for some content to live may lead to more natural linking patterns which will ultimately lead to better rankings.
Your content is an ecosystem, you need to have something living in each niche (articles, pages, blog posts) for it to be healthy.

I dont think my question itself was answered.
My question was if i write content on my blog part of the site vs just content pages is there a difference? I particularly use joomla and it has content pages and blog pages. I have most of my content on the blog pages is this page? I guess my big question is does the word "blog" create any problems to the users and also to google.
Does google rank my blog as high as he would a content page?

You asked: "Would the users come to my site just looking for information or would they actually think of me for the service?"
The answer is (hopefully) yes and yes. You see, as a business you need to attract people who are at different stages of the buying cycle. I prefer the AIDAS model that qualifies visitors this way:
Attention
Inverstigation
Decision
Action
Satisfaction
As an e-Commerce business you absolutely have to have messaging that addresses every stage in that process.
To address your other question about content: Great content is valuable as long as the right people are able to find it.
What does that mean?
Great, specific information about individual products is going to be very valuable on the product pages. Content that compares one model or one brand to another could be very useful on a blog, to address visitors who are in the Investigation stage of buying.
Blogging content is going to be a great way to establish yourselves as anauthority.
Writing aritcles could mean press releases, new product reviews etc. Again these address people at Attention or Inverstigation stages of the buying process. In business, that's called the top of the funnel. It is every bit as important as the middle (decision) or bottom (Action and Satisfaction) part of the funnel.
Does this help a little? I hope so.
Dana

Hi community, I am just trying to figure out which can be priority in on page, off page and technical SEO. Which one you prefer to go first? Which one is easy to handle? Which one is easy to measure? Your opinions and suggestions please. Expecting more realistic answers rather than usual check list. Thanks

Agonizing over Meta length or content seems to make no sense as Google seems to be ignoring them!
Real frustrating for me to see Google ignoring my 'Meta Descriptions' and 'mining' my site for any description it chooses. For years my meta has always been displayed and was set up with best practices according to MOZ. My site snopro.co.nz and snopro.co.nz/wanaka-ski-hire have plenty of competition in the market but we are the only ones with a huge point of difference, we are web based only, and deliver the ski rental gear. My quality meta was a way I could control the text and use for a good CTR due to offering something unique in the 'Meta' (Rental Delivery). Seems the only way I can 'control' any text is with 'Adwords' ...funny that! Any others out there finding the same? Justin. BTW my meta is - 'Snopro Ski Rental Delivery Wanaka. We deliver & custom fit ski hire in the comfort of your accommodation. Hassle Free. Multi-day save 10%. Book here'

Am I doing enough to rid duplicate content?
I'm in the middle of a massive cleanup effort of old duplicate content on my site, but trying to make sure I'm doing enough. My main concern now is a large group of landing pages. For example: http://www.boxerproperty.com/lease-office-space/office-space/dallas http://www.boxerproperty.com/lease-office-space/executive-suites/dallas http://www.boxerproperty.com/lease-office-space/medical-space/dallas And these are just the tip of the iceberg. For now, I've put canonical tags on each sub-page to direct to the main market page (the second two both point to the first, http://www.boxerproperty.com/lease-office-space/office-space/dallas for example). However this situation is in many other cities as well, and each has a main page like the first one above. For instance: http://www.boxerproperty.com/lease-office-space/office-space/atlanta http://www.boxerproperty.com/lease-office-space/office-space/chicago http://www.boxerproperty.com/lease-office-space/office-space/houston Obviously the previous SEO was pretty heavy-handed with all of these, but my question for now is should I even bother with canonical tags for all of the sub-pages to the main pages (medical-space or executive-suites to office-space), or is the presence of all these pages problematic in itself? In other words, should http://www.boxerproperty.com/lease-office-space/office-space/chicago and http://www.boxerproperty.com/lease-office-space/office-space/houston and all the others have canonical tags pointing to just one page, or should a lot of these simply be deleted? I'm continually finding more and more sub-pages that have used the same template, so I'm just not sure the best way to handle all of them. Looking back historically in Analytics, it appears many of these did drive significant organic traffic in the past, so I'm going to have a tough time justifying deleting a lot of them. Any advice?

Google "In-Depth Article" Question
Google started featuring "In-Depth Articles" a few days ago. You can read about them here and here. I have two questions about them... If you already hold a great position in the SERPs. Let's say your existing article ranks at #2 or #3. If that article becomes one of the "In-Depth Articles", will it disappear from the #2 or #3 position? I have lots of content that I could mark as an In-Depth Article, but I don't want to do that if it will pull me out of a hard-earned SERP position. Has anyone seen "In-Depth Articles" that do not have the Schema markup? Thanks!

Could we run into issues with duplicate content penalties if we were to borrow product descriptions?
Hello, I work for an online retailer that has the opportunity to add a lot of SKUs to our site in a relatively short amount of time by borrowing content from another site (with their permission). There are a lot of positives for us to do this, but one big question we have is what the borrowed content will do to our search rankings (we normally write our own original content in house for a couple thousand SKUs). Organic search traffic brings in a significant chunk of our business and we definitely don't want to do something that would jeopardize our rankings. Could we run into issues with duplicate content penalties if we were to use the borrowed product descriptions? Is there a rule of thumb for what proportion of the site should be original content vs. duplicate content without running into issues with our search rankings? Thank you for your help!

Duplicate Pate Content - 404's or 301's?
I deleted about 100 pages of stale content 6 months ago and they are currently returning 404's. The crawl diagnostics have pointed out 77 duplicate pages because of this. Should I redirect these as 301's to get rid of the error or keep them as 404's? Most of the pages still have some page authority but I don't want to get penalized. Just looking for the best solution. Thanks!

SEOmoz suddenly reporting duplicate content with no changes???
I am told the crawler has been updated and wanted to know if anyone else is seeing the same thing I am. SEOmoz reports show many months of no duplicate content problems. As of last week though, I get a little over a thousand pages reported as dupe content errors. Checking these pages I find there is similar content (hasn't changed) with keywords that are definitely different. Many of these pages rank well in Google, but SEOmoz is calling them out as duplicate content. Is SEOmoz attempting to closely imitate Google's perspective in this matter and therefore telling me that I need to seriously change the similar content? Anyone else seeing something like this?

To use the same content just changing the keywords could be seen as duplicate content?
I want to offer the same service or product in many different cities, so instead of creating a new content for each city what I want to do it to copy the content already created for the product and service of a city and then change the name of the city and create a new url inside my website for each city. for example let say I sell handmade rings in the USA, but I want o target each principal city in the USA, so I have want to have a unque url for ecxh city so for example for Miami I want to have www.mydomain.com/handmade-rings-miami and for LA the url would be www.mydomain.com/handmade-rings-la Can I have the same content talking about the handmade rings and just change the keywords and key phrases? or this will count as a duplicate content? content: TITLE: Miami Handmade Rings URL :www.mydomain.com/handmade-rings-miami Shop Now handmade rings in Miami in our online store and get a special discount in Miami purchases over $50 and also get free shipping on Miami Local address... See what our Miami handmade rings clients say about our products.... TITLE: LA Handmade Rings URL: www.mydomain.com/handmade-rings-la Shop Now handmade rings in LA in our online store and get a special discount in LA purchases over $50 and also get free shipping on LA Local address... See what our LA handmade rings clients say about our products.... There are more than 100 location in the country I want to do this, so that is why I want to copy paste and replace.. Thanks in advance, David Orion
