Google Webmasters DNS error
-
Hi,
In my webmaster tools I have a yellow triangle stating that there is a DNS error that is preventing Google crawling my sites.
The site is indexed and I have checked fetch as Google and that seems ok but the triangle is still there every time I check it.
The whois sites all have the correct information and point to Hostgator who I am using.
I have contacted them and they said everything seems ok.
Should I just carry on as normal with my link building as the site is indexed or investigate even further?
Cheers,
Stuart

Ok, domain scored a 93.3% so you are fine. The triangle is just confusing UI by Google.
-
Hmm, not sure I follow. Perhaps you could PM me the domain then I could take a look?

Hi,
Thank you for your time! When you say above 80% what part of the graph should I be looking at?
On the Total DNS errors Graph when I hover the mouse over certain dates it comes up
Errors/Attempts 0/2 0%
But on the 8th Errors/Attempts 1/1 100%
I take it the latter is a bad sign and the first all ok?
Is that right?
Cheers!

Excellent, on the 8th you can see the pages indexed dropped to 0 but then picked up again the next day. This aligns with the DNS error graph. If your DNS report is above 80% (email scores are not relevant to indexing) , you are fine.

Could you attach a crawl stats for the same period?
Also, what does this site http://www.solvedns.com say about your domain?
Set up a monitor at pingdom.com and it will tell you about any DNS issues that happen 24 hours a day.

If the triangle is on the message, it is historical and you don't have to worry anymore.
Check Health -> Crawl Stats. You will see what periods Googlebot was unable to index the site. If there is a positive number most recently then the issue has been fixed.

Hi,
Thanks for the responses.
I have only had one message and the site has been crawled since with no new messages but the yellow triangle still remains.
Cheers!

If this is the first time and you haven't seen any others, don't worry too much.
I recommend you contact your DNS provider and ask if they had any outages internally or near to them, on the date shown in the DNS failure report. Tell them is it because google WMT told you about it.
The internet, contrary to popular belief, if a system held together with old string and sometimes it breaks.
If you are really worried about it, you should get a service that checks your DNS and access to your site on a regular basis. Then you will at least know if there are other times that there are problems. If you have only a few pages on your site, and it doesn't change often, google will not be there very often. If you have a lot of content and there are regular changes, google will be all over your site, a lot of the time, so short outages can be more of a problem.

Is the message dated? Perhaps this occurred before and fixed now but the message keeps popping up?

Tasks for Google Analytics training
Hi Mozzers, I'm delivering some Google Analytics (Fundamentals level) training, and trying to make it was fun and as interesting as possible... which is quite a challenge when it comes to GA. I was just wondering if you're aware of training tasks, or interactions, I could bring into this kind of training session? The group are particularly interested in user journeys and the effectiveness of content. Thanks!

Google Analytics Custom Alert For Goal Completions?
Hi currently setting up custom alerts for a website. I want to do a custom alerts for when goal completions decrease or increase by a certain % e.g. 20% as shown in the third example from this Moz Article back in 2012 - http://moz.com/blog/7-essential-google-intelligence-custom-alerts-that-keep-me-sane However when i go into my GA account the only options seem to be for when the goal completion conversion rate % drops. I could use this, but i rather do just based on completions rather than %. Any ideas on how i can do this? Thanks.

Strange Traffic Spike In Google Analytics
Over the last two days I have seen a huge spike in the pageviews to my site www.learnbonds.com. Up to this point my average page views per visit has been less than 2. For the last couple of days it has jumped to 5 but the average time on the site has not increased. Upon further investigation under the browser and OS page of google analytics I found that traffic coming from internet explorer and IE with Chrome Frame is reporting 10+ pageviews per visit. Below is a screenshot. Any insight into what might be causing this and how to fix it that the community can provide would be appreciated. Thanks

Registration tracking with Google Analytics
Hi everyone, I want to track user registrations with Google Analytics for a customer's website. The thing is after registration visitors are not directed to a specific page, so I can't set it as a goal. I thought of tracking submit button with event tracking, but that data would not be true as a visitor may click it more than once, and there's the login with facebook and twitter thing. Before convincig customer to create a registration confirmation page, I want to make sure there's no other way as they don't want to make any changes to the current website. Any ideas?

Google Analytics & Omniture Discrepancies
I am seeing a significant difference between my traffic numbers in Google Analytics and Omniture (Omniture has significantly more). I do not expect them to report exactly the same numbers but these are just too far off. Any idea why that is, or which one I should trust more? Thanks!

Google Analytics Goal Funnel Visualization Issue
I've setup a goal funnel but am having an issue when I look at the funnel visualization. It doesn't appear to be recognizing the 1st step of the funnel that I've defined in the goal edit page. The "Property Listing page view" is located at /listings/xxx where xxx is the number of the property. Within the funnel, I've added /listings/*, but when I go to see the funnel visualization, I see 0 counts for this step (even though it clearly shows on the entrance page to the left "/listings/622, etc". I've attached a .pdf with a few images to help make this clearer. Any thoughts? CRD-Funnel.pdf
