Google not reading my canonical links
-
Hi All,
New to SEOmoz but so far love it. My reports list tons of duplicate links and webmaster tools does as well. In fact it just updated last night and added several hundred more. I have the canonical tag on my products. Here is a product example page:
http://www.stonehousecollection.com/card/funny-christmas-cards/KX296a.html
Thank you for the help.

It does thanks.

I would suggest you use a crawler like Screaming Frog to do an audit of your site and to make sure there are no coding issues. As for what Google is telling you, you can again using GWT to extract the duplicates it's reporting and crawl and use the Exact fuction in Excel to ensure the duplicates are indeed the same URL and when they are not, look at them and find out what the problem is. My guess is that you won't find a lot of issues and it's just the way GWT reports right now and that it does not factor in that URLA and URLB are canonicaled to URLB and therefore it should not say URLA and URLB are duplicate.
I hope this helps.

Thanks Nakul. What got me worried is that I had a coding error in my canonical tag and i fixed it about a month ago. Was waiting for GWT to flush out the duplicates and then today they essentially doubled. What do you make of this?

It's working exactly it should:
Go to Google and search for these:
cache:http://www.stonehousecollection.com/card/christmas-cards/14131b.html
cache:http://www.stonehousecollection.com/card/featured/14131b.html
cache:http://www.stonehousecollection.com/card/holiday-thank-you-cards/14131b.htmlEach of those 3 times, I see:
This is Google's cache of http://www.stonehousecollection.com/card/holiday-thank-you-cards/14131b.html.
Which means the correct URL / canonical is being crawled.
There's nothing you need to do. If possible, the only thing you can do is to try and ensure your CMS always generates the canonical version, not the others. But if you can'd do that, that's fine, that's what the canonical tag is for.
You are good. No need to worry. Your canonical tags are being read correct by Googlebot.
At some point, GWT and and SEOMoz will update to factor canonicals in their reporting of Duplicate Titles, Meta etc.

What are some other duplicate URls for this product ? I see the correct/canonical version of this page is indeeded indexed and cached in Google.
This is Google's cache of http://www.stonehousecollection.com/card/funny-christmas-cards/KX296a.html. It is a snapshot of the page as it appeared on May 8, 2013 23:17:24 GMT.

Is Google analytics not working properly anymore?
Hi mozzers, We launched a website 2 months ago and when monitoring Organic data on GA we had an average of 23% bounce rate like a month ago but the last 2 weeks I noticed that bounce rate=0%. This is very weird especially that we haven't modified the existing pages and that multiple keywords show an average site duration of 0 seconds. Any thoughts about this discrepancy? Do you think that there is an issue with the GATC implemented? Thanks

X2 Google Analytics affect page rank ?
Hi there, If you had 2 Google Analytics Accounts one to the main site and another to the blog, could this affect the page position in Google? We've suddenly noticed a drop in our KWs and it was shortly after we added another Google Analytics Account. The blog has 68% Bounce rate and the main site has always been about 48%. Any help would be much appreciated. Many thanks Paul

Impressions in Google Analytics
I am trying to compare SERP impressions in Google Analtyics between two different time periods. I want to compare the last two months, with the previous two months. Now this works fine when I go to Traffic Sources > SEO > Queries. Our analytics has been set up since early last year, so I cannot understand why, for a couple of weeks at the start of the previous two months, it is showing that I have less than 10 impressions per day, then in one day, it jumps to 22,000 impressions, and starts to show 'real' information after that... Very frustrating when I am trying to show how effective my work has been. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Email campaigns. Should I link to my blog or to my site?
I have a client for who we write and post a daily blog article. The articles are optimized and linked to particular targeted content on his top level site. Now we are going to start e-marketing to his 3000+ website users to announce inventory changes and specials. My question is (from a SE standpoint) are we better off linking the e-mail content to the blog and introducing people to the blog (but adding an additional step for getting to the new inventory. Or are we better off putting a link in the HTML E-mail letter that we send out to both the blog and separately to the inventory section? Just to clarify, we wonder if the search engines would provide some additional authority for the extra blog traffic and thereby build the overall score of the blog & site. We are looking at the e-mail campaigns as a potential opportunity to impact SE scores not just awareness of new inventory. Thanks everyone!

Google Docs Paranoia
Recently, there has been a lot of great information on SEOmoz about using Google Apps, Docs, etc. However, I suffer from Google paranoia (the fear that Google can see what's going on in my Google products). Is this fear unreasonable? Should I be concerned about using Google Apps, docs, analytics, etc. for SEO data (including keyword position tracking, back link analysis, etc)?
