Hi Tim,
We recommend Wordpress for all non ecomm sites and Joomla/Magento for the ecomm ones. Wordpress with all their plugins is very SEO friendly as well as a user friendly interface in the backend .
We tried it for e-comm sites as well however had a very bad experience when the client wanted to customize the e-comm solution on the wordpress platform.
Cheers,

We switched over from joomla to wordpress for the following site which we are still working on. http://www.cheapflightsgatwick.com/
We are still working on the site but we have used it as a learning curve where we bought a template and then we have customized it which we are still doing.
I have been contemplating switching our site www.in2town.co.uk to wordpress but not really sure if it is wise or not.
We are hiring a developer to update the template in the next couple of weeks and i have been talking if we should stay with joomla or move to wordpress and if we did move to wordpress would we lose all of our link juice and pages that we have, which we have thousands of them.

Tim,
We only use Wordpress for all of our non-ecommerce sites. It is so much more than just a blogging platform/cms now. It is very robust with millions supporting the Wordpress community and building plugins. There are also many premium plugins and themes that are excellent right off the shelf and wordpress can be completely customized so that it doesn't look like a template at all. With the right plugin it is very SEO friendly and most themes are responsive that are coming out now and so it is great for mobile. I used Joomla before we switched to WP and we haven't looked back. Just try it and you will love it too!

The answer is ... it depends.
If you're going to be writing blogs, then Wordpress is hands-down better because it has a ton of plugins that make writing blogs (and all the tasks related to them) super easy. It also can be integrated into a "regular"site transparently. Here's an example of a WordPress blog embedded into our main site:
www.morningsiderecovery.com/blog/
On the other hand, if you do no blogging at all, then Joomla has much to offer and is also pretty easy to use. You can find many templates online and build a perfectly lovely looking site quite easily. Here's an example of that approach:
All of that having been said, there are companies that run very large sites that have almost zero blog features but are built with WordPress as the underlying structure.
Another aspect to consider is who will be managing / maintaining your site. If you anticipate hiring for this, you might want to see where the labor pool is more plentiful and where it is easier to get skilled staff who can maintain your site.
Best of success to you in your new effort.

Do you think its better to have a published date AND a last updated date ? Does google even look if you updated but left the published date old
Do you think its better to have a published date AND a last updated date on Posts ? Does google even look if you updated but left the published date old I was thinking of adding a "last updated" field to my articles. But is it worth it? or should I just keep it uncluttered and leave only the last published date? I would think that Google would not notice if I updated a last updated meta field since their is a published date field already.

What platform is it better to write my blogs
In a nutshell, I have a website and on the web site I have a rolling blog updated regularly with informative ,interesting and non pushy original material. However . I notice that my website blog has a lower page and domain Authority than my original platform which is on Googles very own platform "blogger" . Should I use Blogger or the website ? or would it be better to promote the website blog on blogger ? or am I over thinking this ?

Wordpress Overly Dynamic URLs
Moz is giving me an overly dynamic URL warning for around 30 or so of these on our blog. http://blog.domain.com/?page=products&do=domain-com-looks-like-a-blog-title I have no idea what's causing this, we have the permalinks set up for category/post and are running yoast. Anyone have any idea what it is? And how can I stop them being crawled. They link to the blog homepage when clicked, which is set to canonical in the head so it shouldn't do any harm - but i'd like to remove them all the same. Will /Disallow /?=page work in robots.txt?

Please help me stop google indexing https pages on my wordpress site
I added SSL to my wordpress blog because that was the only way to get a dedicated IP address for my site at my host. Now I am noticing Google has started indexing posts both as http and https. Can some one please help how to force google not to index https as I am sure its like having duplicate content. All help is appreciated. So far I have added this to top of htaccess file: RewriteEngine on Options +FollowSymlinks RewriteCond %{SERVER_PORT} ^443$ RewriteRule ^robots.txt$ robots_ssl.txt And added robots_ssl.txt with following: User-agent: Googlebot Disallow: / User-agent: * Disallow: / But https pages are still being indexed. Please help.

Duplicate Content on WordPress Blogs?
We are getting ready to add a WordPress blog to our established website. Our plans are to place it in a subfolder on our website to maximize rank. My question is...Do we need to utilize a Meta Robots WordPress plugin by Yoast or similar so that noindex, follow robots meta tags will prevent search engine indexing of search result pages, subpages and category archives? We want to avoid the dreaded Duplicate Content Error and penalty. Any other great SEO WordPress plugins? Thank you for your time. Brian
