Reciprocol Links
-
Am I correct in stating that linking to every article about your company is a bad idea. I see a lot of sites with followed links to the articles that link to them. Is this not devaluing the link? I've been recommending removing the links or no indexing the page and no following the links. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
-
I actually think you might be thinking about it too much.
-
Are the articles written by your company about your company like guest posts? If they are and you are asked to link back by the site that posted the guest post, that is a bad link. Those will be detected.
-
Are they real articles written about the company? If so you should promote these in many ways.
-
Why is your company linking to the articles? If it's so that they can point people to what's being said about them, you don't need to remove those links. They are there for a good reason.
If you're doing the linking for your customers and potential customers, you're fine. If you're doing it for SEO purposes or to make someone happy so they will link to you, don't do it.

Yes excessive reciprocal links is likely to lead your site into trouble, as it is likely to appear that you are exchanging links with these sources in turn for a link to you. How will Google decipher that the company wrote an article about your company and you are just linking to it in order to show visitors this and not an attempt at manipulating Googles SERPs?
If you work for a company that wants to acknowledge articles about your company on other sites your are going to have to come up with an alternative such as a graphic that has a logo of the sites and maybe saying we are mentioned on website x, website y and website z.
Before you think about going down the route of placing a nofollow on all links I would have a look at these wise words by Egol in a previous Q&A -
http://www.seomoz.org/q/adding-nofollow-to-all-external-links-is-this-a-good-idea
I would explain to your company why you shouldn't have all these links and the negative impact they are likely to have on your link profile. As we all know the more natural a link profile you can have the better in the eyes of Google. Saying that a natural link profile will have some reciprocal links but only a small proportion when it adds value to the visitor.
The other down side to reciprical links is that they essentially have the potential of taking the visitors attention away from your site - which in terms of business is not a great thing as this could distract them from converting to being another customer.
Hope this helps..

Getting a sitewide links from one domain as oppsed to few links from certain pages, a good, bad or horrible idea?
Hello, I have a website that is performing really well in Google for country specific Real Estate Website. I have had this site for just about 2 years and I have 4600+ indexed pages, and about 50 of my main keywords appear in top 10 results on Google. I have now started a second site with a brand new domain, its only about 2 months old. This one is a Travel website and again its country specific (same country that real estate website is performing well in) and since its still building up the content and has barely a couple of backlinks, I am thinking of adding a linkback to it from my Real Estate Site. Is it a good idea to add a site wide link back from header section of the real estate website to my travel website? Both sites has same country and most of the keywords in both relate to this country. Or will I be better off adding a few text links from few pages with best Page Authority? Or - do you suggest that I do not link the two at all? Both sites are hosted on different servers, with different IP's and one is on windows server created in asp.net while another is a magento site. Any advidce / insight will be much appreciated and thank you in advance.

Back-link Quantity
Hi there, I am writing a post for a well respected blog in our industry. I'm debating on either to target 1 key-phrase in this post with an external back-link, or to go target 2-3 back-links in the post. Just a few questions on this: Would including 1 external back link be more beneficial than having 2 or 3 external back-links in the post? Kind Regards

Panda Update: Isn't a link still a link?
I was doing some link building and some SEO's said that the Panda update affected many websites. I am going to use eZineArticles.com as my example. EzineArticles was affected by the Panda update and does not show up in the SERPs as much as before. But they still have doFollow Links coming from the articles I am submitting. QUESTION: Regardless if EzineArticles was affected by the Panda Update, isn't a "Follow Link" still a "Follow Link" OR am I completely wasting my time on this devalued website? Edit: Yes I know a PR 0 page is not as valuable as a PR 9 page. I am asking from the standpoint of the affected Panda Update domains overall.

Porn link ...
I just ran https://www.majesticseo.com report for back links and showed me that I have one link at porn site ... not sure if it will be appropriate to post it here. The link was discovered on 03.05.11 and when I visited today link is not there... I dont know who put that link there. Can I get penalty for that from google? Can it be a mistake?
