Linking out to authoritive sites from my ecommerce site
-
Good afternoon SEOmoz community.
I was looking for a specific answer or advice or opinion about linking out to other sites.
My Site www.tacticalbootstore.com has been undergoing a complete content rewrite. In the process we have been told and read where it can be good to link out to other authoritive sites.
One of the pages we have rewritten is here.
http://www.tacticalbootstore.com/belleville-boots-sizing-chart-a-97.html
We have not added the graphics yet as they are being built now.
This is just an informational page about sizing of a particular manufacturers boots. Once you get to the bottom of the text we have added a link to the actual manufacturers page.
Is this helpful for us in the SERPS or not?
Thank you for your time.
Chris

Hi Chris,
They're saying that it's better to link to internal resources such as a "Belleville" brand page on your domain, and then you can put the external link on that page.
It's not that linking out isn't beneficial (it is), but rather that it's more important to keep those visitors on the site, and build out those resources yourself. For a site that specializes in boots, a sizing chart is the type of content that you should recreate yourself rather than linking out.
In regards to linking out, try integrating that into blog content and things of that nature rather than core content related to your products and services.
On a usability sidenote, the black color for links makes them very difficult to see compared to the gray text color you're using.

Thanks for the input guys. It is much appreciated.
So if I am understanding you correctly. You are saying it is not beneficial to link out to the manufacturers website?
Thank you

Agree with Tbrems here. The more info the better (see the zappos page here and click the "about the brand" link) http://www.zappos.com/nike-roshe-run-squardron-blue-sport-turquoise-gamma-grey-fiberglass#prdBrand
as to an actual link, i don't think i would link out as that takes the visitor off your site which you don't want.

Hey Chris,
I have actually had this same situation last year and found that it was not beneficial nor detrimental to our search rankings.
I settled on the belief that if it is good for the consumer than we should add the link. Here though, I think you could probably re-write that content and place it on your own domain to provide unique value to your consumers instead of relying on Bellville to do it.

Our client's site was owned by former employee who took over the site. What should be done? Is there a way to preserve all the SEO work?
A client had a member of the team leave on bad terms. This wasn't something that was conveyed to us at all, but recently it came up when the distraught former employee took control of the domain and locked everyone out. At first, this was assumed to be a hack, but eventually it was revealed that one of the company starters who unhappily left the team owned the domain all along and is now holding it hostage. Here's the breakdown: -Every page aside from the homepage is now gone and serving a 404 response code -The site is out of our control -The former employee is asking for a $1 million ransom to sell the domain back -The homepage is a "countdown clock" that isn't actively counting down, but claims that something exciting is happening in 3 days and lists a contact email. The question is how we can save the client's traffic through all this turmoil. Whether buying a similar domain and starting from square one and hoping we can later redirect the old site's pages after getting it back. Or maybe we have a legal claim here that we do not see even though the individual is now the owner of the site. Perhaps there's a way to redirect the now defunct pages to a new site somehow? Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Site-wide links for internet bureau
Hi mozzers, We are a internet firm building several sites and webshops every month. On almost every site we build we put a link in the footer as some kind of signature of our work. (similar to artists on their painting). Those are often dofollow links to our main page. We do get several new clients of those links each year. but in seo perspective, is this a really bad thing, or do you think because its not solely for SEO purposes its ok, but its not adding any extra weight because of some domains got 10 pages with our link on it, some ecommerce stores like 7.000. I can imagen google to give the same amount of importance to the 10 or 7k site. Whats your idea on it?

Do Com Junct links affect your site with Google and Penguin
We received the dreaded letter from google in reference to "unnatural or artificial links" Our site has affiliate programs through Commission Junction and Link Share and between the two programs we have over 8000 affiliates or advertisers. Our site has been very successful, but our organic search traffic is down as our rankings in the search engines have dropped. My question is do the affiliate links have an effect on our site with Panda or Penguin?

Linking without loosing link equity.
Hi, I was wondering if anyone had a solution to linking without loosing link equity? From what I have read using 'no follow' on both internal and external links DOES NOT pass any equity across the link to the link target, but also, the latest thought goes that it DOES loose link equity (as if it were a FOLLOW' link). So is there a method of retaining link equity using another method? Thanks

Cross links between sites
hi, We have several ecommerce sites and we cross linked 3 of them by mistake. We realize that the sites were linked through WMT, We have shut down 2 of the sites about 2 months ago, but WMT still shows the links coming from those 2 sites. how do we make sure that google will see the sites are shut down. Is there a better of way resolving this issue. We are no longer using those sites, so do not need them to be active. whats the best solution to show google that the links are no longer there. Crawler shows that it was able to crawl the site 45 days after it is shut down. thanks nick

What is the value of english links with foreign language anchor text for a foreign site?
I have a site in Spanish that is hosted in Spain with a .es TLD. I already have many Spanish-language links from websites in Spain, but I obviously want more and I'm finding I might need to look beyond typical Spanish sites. In talking to some of my link builders who work on my English/American sites, they are recommending that I build links on the normal article sites, blogs and web 2.0 sites that I normally build links on but that I make all the content English and insert the anchor text in Spanish. For example, if my site were about "weightloss", my keyword would be "perder peso" (in spanish). They are recommending that I have articles, reviews, etc written about weightloss in English with the anchor text "perder peso" worked into the English article. Most of the sites are English sites that are hosted in the US (article sites, web 2.0 properties, etc). My question is what is the value of these links? Does anybody have any experience with this?
