Page Titles For Local - Help on URL Structure
-
Trying to figure out the best way to construct localized urls for the dental website.
For example, If I have the URL:
http://www.kooskidental.com/services/cosmetic-dentistry/
and If I want to make it local to the city I would use:http://www.kooskidental.com/services/richardson-tx-cosmetic-dentistry/
But what happens is that I have other options off the menu like:
http://www.koooskidental.com/services/richardson-tx-cosmetic-dentistry/teeth-whitening/
But if I am trying to rank for richardson tx teeth whitening, I would have to do
But that's pretty long and ugly and I don't think I need richardson-tx in their twice.
If I am trying to rank for richardson tx cosmetic dentistry and richardson tx teeth whitening, what would be the best structure for the url's?

Ok, thanks, I appreciate the suggestion. I have 17 dental websites I want to change and I would rather not do this exercise twice through all of them! I'll try this on 5-10 pages of the 35 pages I have and see what happens.

Hi Bob,
My take on this is that the part that needs to disappear from the various service pages is the 'richardson-tx-cosmetic-dentistry', but, I will beg to gently differ regarding total removal of the city names. I would recommend URLs like this:
http://koooskidental.com/teeth-whitening-richardson-tx
http:/kooskidental.com/invisalign-richardson-tx
http://kooskidental.com/dental-implants-richardson-tx
etc.
Those URLs aren't too long they are highly localized, which I feel is totally the way to go for a local business website.

Hi Bob,
I have to agree with Ian. Unless your business has multiple locations I wouldn't feature the location within the URL.
Instead, focus on your on-page signals. In addition, make sure you claim your business on Google+ Local and link it with your website.

If I were you, I would completely get rid of the richardson-tx out of your URLs. The only reason why you would do this is for Google. It makes no sense for the user to have this in the URL, so you should get rid of it.
I would keep your URLs short:
/services/cosmetic-dentistry
/services/cosmetic-dentistry/teeth-whitening
There are local signals that you can do on page besides your URL that will benefit Google and users. For example:
- Name, Address, and Phone number in Schema markup on every page
- Well written titles and meta descriptions
- Proper use of keywords in the headings (h1, h2, etc) and in the paragraph/body content
These will get you further down the local path than manipulating your URLs to contain many keywords, which doesn't make sense for the users.

Is it better to try and boost an old page that ranks on page #5 or create a better new page
Hello Everyone, We have been looking into our placements recently and see that one of our blog posts shows on page #5 for a popular keyword phrase with a lot of search volume. Lets say the keyword is "couples fitness ideas" We show on page 5 for a post /couples-fitness-ideas-19-tips-and-expert-advice/ We want to try and get on the first page for that phrase and wanted to know if it is better if we did one of the following: 1. Create a new page with over 100 ideas with a few more thousands of words. with a new url (thinking /couples-fitness-ideas) 2. Create a new page with a new url (thinking /couples-fitness-ideas) with the same content as the currently ranking post. We would want to do this for more freedom with layout and design of the page rather than our current blog post template. Add more content, let's say 100 more ideas. Then forward the old URL to the new one with a 301 redirect. 3. Add more content to the existing post without changing the layout and change the URL. Look forward to your thoughts

Titles
Our site http://villasdini.com is offering beach villas on sunny Diani beach in Kenya. I have a category with beach villas in Diani beach which I want to be shown in serp if somebody search for Diani beach villas, or Diani beach hotels, Diani beach accommodation etc. I have also category with small boutique hotels, which I want to be shown in serp if somebody search for Diani beach villas, or Diani beach hotels, Diani beach accommodation etc. Should I also include Diani beach in titles? Will that not be too much of Diani bech in titles? I am afraid I have anyway already too much of "Diani beach" keyword and perhaps I am even punished for it as I can't rank for this keyword at all almost a year:-( I also want to rank on Diani beach itself and I have created Diani beach page which I want to be shown in serp when somebody search for Diani beach. I am kind of getting crazy of this:-( Any advice what I am doing wrong and what strategy I should rather do? Thank you very much, Iris

How important is it to include the target keyword phrase in the page URL?
If I want to target a keyword phrase to a particular phrase, but do not want to change the URL of that page, will that negatively impact my rankings? I am also wondering if I can get around it by creating a new, short URL that 301 redirects to the original URL. Would that be as effective as including the keyword in the original URL?

Should I use a Page Name variable after the ? for a dynamic web page
I'm converting for static to dynamic web pages. It appears that the page name is used for page ranking in the search engines. Will adding a Page Name variable help to increase our SEO. For example aspecialgift.com/subcat.php?PageName=GiftPage&ProductID=ABCDE. Does the page name variable make a difference?
