What are other SEO's calling themselves now?
-
I am piggy backing off of Rand's latest Whiteboard Friday: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/why-we-cant-just-be-seos-anymore-whiteboard-friday (It is an awesome post if you haven't checked it out yet.)
I just want to hear some feedback from other industry professionals.
- Have you started defining/communicating your business as more than just, I do SEO?
- If so, what are you calling yourselves now and why?
- How has that been working out for you?
-
Awesome story. Thanks for sharing a real world experience. It's so important to go with a description that companies and marketing departments will understand.
-
We use "Inbound Marketing" as well as "Digital Marketing". Ever since I read Ian Lurie from Portent, Inc. comment regarding the term "SEO's", I try to avoid it as much as possible. For us, SEO is one of our many tactics, not our entire marketing strategy.
-
Having the "SEO" in your title is pretty much a requirement.
-
Thanks for all of the responses. All of the titles sound great and make a lot of sense.
We use "Online Marketing Consultant" basically because we started listening to how our clients introduce us on conference calls, emails, and in meetings. We found that, "This is ____. He/she is our Online Marketing Consultant," was the most frequently used introduction, so we have decided to go with that.
-
For the most part I've been going with Digital Marketing Consultant. However, my biz name has "SEO" in it (like SEOMoz). So I'm not sure I'll ever fully "not" be an SEO.
-
I go with "Website Consultant".
-
We go with "Web Marketing Specialist" or "Web Marketing Strategist." Some of the other agencies around here go with "Digital Marketing Associate." I like ours better.
-
A few years back the powers that be (or in this case WERE) here where I work decided that my department would go from 'Internet Marketers' to 'Online Acquisition Marketers'... it was horrible. No one understood what it meant and we found ourselves explaining our services far more than we ever had to in the past. Needless to say... it didn't last. We are back to 'internet marketers'. It is simple, people already know what it means - or if they don't the meaning is fairly self evident once you hear it. Just as in all things, simplicity is best. That was the lesson learned around here. In my defense... I hated even saying 'online acquisition marketing'... just sounded weird...
-
I like internet marketing consultant as well (It's broad enough to encompass many areas). It doesn't sound strategic (executive title), which could also be a plus.
But like everything else, titles are dime a dozen and everybody wants to be director or c-level.
-
I´m using internet marketing consultant because in the end we have to analyse the whole online marketing strategy; since the beginning to check for searchs and key words ( market) till social midias ( how they will find you on these channels)... in the end it´s all about to find you and how to convert users to clients

Yes, very awesome Whiteboard Friday - and I'd say Owned Media, while is correct is lost on most people as to what exactly that covers. I welcome a change from the "SEO" since so many we work with chalk that up to "fixing titles, and Meta Descriptions", though Internet Marketing Executive or Manager covers it all I think.

What now?
Hi all What now for optimization projects. this is what I gathered so far with all the changes in the SEO world. No Stop guest blogging activity! no need to stress about directory submission. Yes - create great internal content that engage clients. this jmy problem. Great content OK and what can I do with it to get people engaged. Slogans are not action items. What engagement are beneficial to sites? like and +1 from within the site? sponsors posts on FB and how do they help website? We as agencies and consultant need action items and measurable activities. I like the changes however so far I do not know why or what? Many more Questions for later. Guy

Anyone used an SEO company they are happy with and would recommend to others?
I have been researching SEO companies. Some are not willing to provide references, while others have references with lukewarm recommendations. Any e-commerce owners/managers here that have used an SEO company that they would recommend? I am about to give up and stick to doing it in-house!

Secondshells.com has $3k a month to spend on SEO & marketing. HOW should I spend it & with whom?
We have a Magento based ecommerce site www.secondshells.com and are looking for ways to improve traffic. Our goal is to drive sales of our products. We are in the Android tablet accessory business, since its fairly new the competition is not that great, we would like to get up in organic rankings for our keywords. We have blog updated daily, building backlinks, PR, facebook, twitter, google+, Videos on Youtube, PPC, product feeds to Bing, Google & The Find. The foundation is there but it's a lot to handle in-house. The real question is who to choose to execute the strategy & where to pick them from. There are 1,000's of companies, individuals, Elance & Odesk. Who to choose to execute is more difficult than choosing the direction. We are straightforward and intelligent and want people who can provide a plan of action, execute and report it. All white hat seomoz style of promotion. There are so many choices and avenues to pursue that it is difficult to make a decision as to which way to go. Any guidance or suggestions will be appreciated. SecondShells

Best way to recruit quality SEO staff?
We are in a nice position in that we are growing everyday. As the result, we need more staff, but do not have the time to bring along someone without any real SEO background. I have used just about every source over the years to hire people with good and bad result.

For an SEO, with experience in some or all of the process: Link building, Keyword Analysis Site evaluation, eCommerce, Analytics... where do you go to find someone good? What about to find them yesterday? 😉 Obviously, they do not have to be expert at all, but they need to be familiar with all and have experience in at least two or three.1 -
Seo is dead?
Hi there, I see a lot of conversations about the term "seo is dead" because some people speak that seo are dead because of google plus and facebook. Is it true? What do you think? What do you think that is the future of our business? We will stay uneployed or we still continue to work? Me personally I hate facebook. Is just so much stupid (like most of people, I guess thats why is so popular) but what about google plus? Is a serious and worthy social profile. This will kill us? I read in SEL or SEW ,I dont remember which of them that this guy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farhad_Manjoo said that seo is dead and some are even supporting him. Also he said that "Google just broke its search engine" with the creation of Google plus. Me I think search msrketing, seo will live for long time yet,Me personally and my friends NEVER EVER CLICK on Facebook ads(if we do it , is just curiosity, and after we never visit again that page, this guys what I was reading their articles before they said that they see a lot of traffick from facebook.me also but the taffic from facebook dont do nothing, even in adsense they dont click on my sites, not to convert to buyers).I have 20 close friends and none of them cares what kind of content they find from facebook. Is our mentality (I am from CYprus)? Or is just a fact? That facebook ads are just some crap? Or general the acebook is a crap?Me i think that is.Is made for some people who are boaring and need something to kill time.so the traffick what you get is some boaring people who dont care about nothing, just some more things to watch and comment with their friends. So practically you have them on the site and after BAM, new hot site so bye bye.Never visit again your site. Why is so much importand?Their likes etc?The difference with google adsense is that all from our company are clicking on the ads and on the results. (much more on the results, because we think that is the best.Including me that I know that SERP can be manipulated. But we still prefer that. Why all speak about that SEO are dead? Are paid from facebook? WTF? Why I never hear somebody from SEOMOZ to say this?My result is that they are some bunch of I@@@TS and they dont know what they speak or are on the other side.I am sorry for my bad english but like this I can express my fealings. If you dont understand something please ask.
