Using 'Pipes' for Page Titles
-
A couple of years ago I was told to take off the 'pipes' for my page titles. To be more organic ....now I am being told it is best to put them back.
For example I just read it is a good idea to do the following:
'Using pipes to separate these words would look like:
SEO Company | Franchise Services | Higher Visibility
Although this might not be the creative title you’re used to seeing on blogs, it’s a title that is incredibly optimized for Google (yet it still lets readers know what they can expect).'
Should I replace the titles of my poor performing pages, with the common format which I am told is:
Page Branding | keyword 1 |keyword 2
or keyword 1 | keyword 2 | Page branding.
And I should keep the piping.
Any opinions?

I don't know who told you to remove pipes from titles since it has been a while seos normally uses them in titles, since they helps to separate sentences better than a full stop or comma.
Aboutthe order, you want your main keywords at the beginning of the title. I'll add the name of your site just if the two are true:
- your title is still less than 70 characters long. If you add the name of your company and it's not showing, your just diluting the density of your title without achieving your goal (branding)
- your company is renown. Having the name of the company helps to enhance ctr if the company is renown, but if you're not so famous, I'll choose to have more dense and focused titles without diluting their value with not useful company names
Hope that helps!

I have a google+ company page set up and have recently added a Google local listing but have noticed it automatically sets up an additional company G+ page. Is there a way to merge the two? Can not see any reference to this issue on Google Q&A. Thanks, Stacey

Google's Current Wave of Updates (4/24 edition)
Edit: Someone beat me to the punch, here is the thread: http://www.seomoz.org/q/google-webspam-algo-update-24-4-12 Let's just discuss it there. So Google has said they are doing another wave of algorithm updates that could impact anywhere from 3-5% of SERPs. I saw it here: http://searchengineland.com/google-launches-update-targeting-webspam-in-search-results-119295 http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2012/04/another-step-to-reward-high-quality.html Has anyone seen any changes? I've heard from a few friends that their sites are bouncing all over the place, which seems to happy a lot during these updates. We might not actually know the fallout for a few days/weeks/months. I saw a few of my smaller sites take a hit, but most of mine have stayed the same. Anyway what do you guys think? Sometimes an update like this can be a wake-up call to people who think they are doing white hat stuff but may be pushing the envelope a bit too much. Thoughts?
