Too Many On-Page Links
-
Hello. So, my SEO team has worked very hard to finally resolve RogerBot/GoogleBot specific Crawl Errors either manually or programmatically can be fixed for our Budget Blinds USA Pro Campaign. We've done a good job even if a lot of it came from Robots.txt file entries as this was the most efficient way our client chose to do it. Good news is most of it is CMS configuration and not bad site architecture.
That being said our next big volume of Crawl Errors is "Too Many On-Page Links". Our Moz DomainRank is 61. Our client, on this new version of the website, added a large nav-based footer which has duplicate links from the Header Main Navigation.
I believe our solution is to put in No-Follow Metatags at the Footer Link Level, so we don't zap Page Authority by over-dividing as you recommend.
Is this the best way to resolve this? Is there any risk in this? Or is a 61 DomainRank high enough for RogerBot and GoogleBot to crawl these anyway?
Please advise,
-
First of all, do not, I repeat DO NOT nofollow your own internal pages. Doing so will not result in your other links getting more link value, but will result in link juice evaporation:

If don't want to divide your link equity, the best solution is to simply remove the link. I would encourage you to install a tool such as CrazyEgg or ClickTale that will show you exactly how your users are using your site. Chances are they are not clicking on many of those footer links. Based on that click data, remove the links that aren't being clicked on.
Also, having a few more links than what SEOMoz recommends is not the end of the world, especially for a high Domain Authority site like yours.

I guess the larger question has to do with the point of having so many links in the footer. I think Google has overcome most of their issues with lots of links on the page but the main question I would have revolves around what is good for users. If it were my site I would probably pare down the links some to make it as user friendly as possible.
Your domainrank of 61 probably has more to do with your incoming link profile than your on page factors. In my experience I would not correlate these two items so closely.
If Moz is telling you to reduce the links then I would probably consider reducing them but at the same time if having more links is better for your users then I would probably stick with it.
Hope this helps.

Number of internal links and passing 'link juice' down to key pages.
Howdy Moz friends. I've just been checking out this post on Moz from 2011 and wanted to know how relevant it is today? I'm particularly interested in a number of links we have on our HP potentially harming important landing page rankings because not enough 'link juice is getting to them i.e) are they are being diluted by all the many other links on the page? (deeper pages, faqs, etc etc) It seems strange to me that as Google as has got more sophisticated this would still be that relevant (thus the reason for posting). Anyway, I thought I was definitely worth asking. If we can leverage more out of our on-page efforts then great 🙂

Canonical home page references - logo link
should a website's logo be linked to the "abc.com/index.html" page or to the "abc.com" domain root? Is one better for the search engine robots?

E-commerce On Page Concern - Links and Anchor Text
Hi, how you doing? I have a set of very specific questions or concerns about anchor text and linking on an e-commerce category page. I was wondering if you could give your opinions and counsel. I own an e-commerce store about steel construction products. I have several category and product pages. One example of my categories is this. URL http://aceromart.com/Losacero-25-Ternium.aspx My concerns or questions: I have several technical specs or sheets. Which i include the link on the right part in "Informacion Adicional". How should i link those? I am bit worried on the anchor text. Should i use something like [download "product" technical sheet] or just [technical sheet of product] . I dont want to cannibalize, but i also want to appear as descriptive as possible. what would you recommend? The same thing happens on my videos. How should i link my videos? Is there a best practice? **what would you recommend. ** Thanks in advance for your opinions!

Too many links??
Hi mozzers I have a question that I need some feedback on please, I run 2 websites both e commerce retail sites and both doing well with SEO however, Our strongest site and parent site so to speak links to our sister site. Here is the outline. Site1 parent site is hosted on a unique URL and on a VPS. I have 384 links coming into this site from the other sister site. from various pages Site 2 the sister site, has 68,864 links coming in from site 1 as we have a link in the footer on site 1 to the home page of site 2. So far we have had no adverse affects from the Google zoo releases, however I am concerned that this many links will soon get penalized. Thoughts from anyone please? I am considering removing the footer link, thus removing 68,000 + incoming links. Looking for any advice here please. thanks Ryan

Dupelicate content home page and custom page question
I am working on a website that got hit by the penguin update. Didn't get hit terribly bad, but dropped from number one to number 9. As I'm going through the pages, the theme and content is a mess. To give an example, say the site is about custom colored marbles. The main page content covers custom colored marbles, custom promotional marbles, custom glass marbles, etc. Custom colored marbles is mentioned and covered on all pages, which I am going back and trying to make each page theme specific. There is also a custom page, so I am at a cross roads on how best to employ the focus of the custom page and the home page. I am thinking the home page should emphasize colored marbles, and the custom page should emphasize custom colored marbles. My fear is that making such a drastic change will bounce the site completely off front page and that it will take time for the custom page to come up in rankings. AS it stands now I am confused as to how it even ranks on first page as there's two pages with custom colored marbles emphasis. Id like to clean this up as much as possible so there are no big hits with future google updates, but I don't want the site to drop off either as that would be hard to explain to the owner. Yeah, we are cleaning up your site and making it google compliant and in so doing you no longer rank on first page. That won't put food on the table. Thanks for any advise on this.

Too Many Links On Internal Search Pages
A client has a too many link warning being flagged in SEOmoz. The problem is that most of the pages on the site are lists of tickets for an event etc. Is there a good way to fix the site from having too many links on pages like this http://www.easyseat.com/venue/yankee-stadium-tickets-for-sale.aspx when the user experience requires a long list of links so people can find an event?

Too many On-Page Links warning + Javascript Menu
We do have javascript menus on each page. These are used by a visitor to contact a specific office in a specif city. Could this be where all these links are being counted? I don't see them elsewhere? What about links that are in the footer? They actually link to the same pages as the menus, but are just straight links.
