Google+ Local City Centroid Bias

It's well-known that Google has a bias towards businesses located closest to the center of the city being searched in. How can you tell where exactly Google considers to be the center of the city?
I think that the way is to just search the city name on Google Maps and the marker will appear at where they consider the center of the city to be but just wanted to double check on that first.

Very good question, and Linda has done a great job of explaining that the city centroid is no longer a heavily-weighted factor. You will get more information by performing the type of search she recommends. However, if you would still like to see where the centroid is, just search for the city in Google Maps and look where Google puts the pin. That is typically the centroid.

Actually centroid bias is only a factor with the OLD pack algo which seldom shows up any more.
With the new blended algo, which has been around for a couple years now, centroid isn't a strong factor. It's more about organic ranking factors now.
I have clients that rank #1 that are farthest from city center, have the fewest backlinks, less citations and reviews than others in their market. I even got one Dentist a double #1. He's #1 in organic plus A in blended. He's so far from centroid, he's literally almost the next state over. In fact 1/2 of his patients come from the other state. It's all about the on-site "Local" SEO!
To answer your question about how can you tell city center - a better question might be how far does the search radius extend. It varies by city, but is easy to see.Do a search on Google - not maps (because the results are different and most consumers search on Google and being listed on page 1 there is what counts.)
Search for "City key phrase". Look at the map right on Google search. You'll see the cluster of where the most prominent listings are and you'll see where the map cuts off. If you or your client is located beyond the area shown on the map, they likely aren't going to rank on page one.
A great example of the lack or centroid bias is "Seattle Chiropractor". Do a Google search and look at map on that page, then click map link to see in better detail on the big map. Most listings are near centroid. But #1 is WAY north of town and the E listing is way way up there.

Hello, We own the business BIM Fitness and Performance in Fort Myers, FL. However, when we do a search near us, we are down at the very bottom of the page. Can anyone provide some insight as to why this may be? I know SEO is the long game but is there anyway we can at least appear higher up locally?

Checking in on Local
So it's been a few months since my most favorite thread "Local Really?" (http://moz.com/community/q/local-really) and I have worked tirelessly deleting duplicate citations, fixing incorrect NAP, and adding new citations for the two different locations my client works from. I have added a second Google Plus Local page and verified it as well and linked it back to the page for that location on my site. I have added Schema.org markup on each of the pages relating to the locations with the full address and correct NAP. I research with whitespark.ca to find new possibilities and compare with listings ranking highly. I feel like I have worked non-stop at this but unfortunately I have still seen 0 results from my examining everything. The Google listing is still on page 14 / 20 and seems to be stuck there. Is this fairly normal? I'm just at a lost as I have honestly tried to adhere to all the comments and advice given by everyone here (again while seeing the competition doing none of those things.) I think I'm just looking for that little "things look right just give it time and continue" or even "no! you're doing it wrong still" Thanks in advance!

Ranking well for keywords, but not in Google maps
If the search "criminal defense attorney" or any number of variants, is performed from a mobile device, like an iPhone, Google maps seems to be inserting many local map listings ahead of the normal search results in the Tallahassee, Florida area. These are great - as they have the Call button and the Directions button. However, for some reason, my clients aren't ranking well here and competitors who are seemingly doing nothing are higher in the list. I have created the Google+ page for attorney and business page for the firm and completed the profile, uploading pictures etc and verified the address. I have the local address (schema-proper, I believe) on the linking home page and their address is actually closer to downtown/midtown than others. I've even gotten some positive reviews and +1s, at least enough to be competitive in this field. This was about 2 months ago. Any advice? On a (perhaps) related note, the competition has category descriptions outside of the Google-allowed categories. I can't save settings without fitting neatly into their "Criminal Justice Attorney" category. Help here would also be appreciated.

Local SEO Best Practice
Hi We currently have 6 showrooms in a geographical area (Scotland,UK) and each showroom covers a specific region within the country encompassing towns and cities. So for example showroom A based in Edinburgh covers a customer area of Edinburgh, Fife, St Andrews while showroom B located in Glasgow covers Glasgow, Livingston etc In google places I have drawn the geographical area on the map that each showroom covers making sure that they do not overlap At present some of which are ranking well in local but one is stating that 'google does not support this location' and after following previous advice on the forum this is still the case. Would I be better setting up another google account for this showroom and submit it again into Google Places or would it be better going into Google+ business pages? or are they the same thing? Finally is it worth using the following in Google Places? KML File and Geo Sitemap generation (these files are needed for Google) Address output in Schema.org format

How to Fix Issue for Inactive Products in Google Merchant Center?
Today, I was checking my Google merchant center account. I come to know that, there are 145 inactive products are available from product feed. I have checked few products manually and found following error. "The URL specified in your data feed wasn't working correctly when we reviewed this item." You can view more by attached image. Getting reviews to stick on Yelp & Google
Do you have any tricks to getting reviews to stick on yelp? Whenever we ask out customers to review us on there their reviews end up getting "detected" as fakes. I have tried it out myself, and the only way i've gotten them to stick is making several reviews of various different local businesses with average ratings and then dropping one in for the client with a better rating. Perhaps this is a little on the blackhat/greyhat side of things. But if our customers are legitimatly trying to review us and it doesn't stick, i don't feel all that bad taking this route, the only real problem is time consumed. What about google? has anyone had any luck gaining more reviews for their client on google?

Is anyone here a channel partner with Localeze or has subscribed? Any thoughts? http://localeze.com They want a yearly fee and to me this doesn't make sense as all it is doing is sending information to the local listing sites and this should be a one-time deal.

Multi-site listings in Google Local/Place pages
I've had problems with a client that is a local medical center with multiple sites/addresses. We've created a Place Page for each location and linked it to the location page on the client's website that matches the address on the Place page. But that means we're not linking to the medical center's home page -- and Google Places doesn't like that. I know this because after we'd owner-verified each Place Page, Google went in and just changed the website link that was a deep link to a location page and replaced it with a link to the home page. But now there's not an address match. How should we handle this? Related question: Does it make sense to claim a separate listing in Yelp and other local directories for each of the separate locations since they each have a unique address? Will Yelp & other local directories allow for links to non-home pages on the client's website?
