I'm not ranking locally.....
-
Hello,
We own the business BIM Fitness and Performance in Fort Myers, FL. However, when we do a search near us, we are down at the very bottom of the page.
Can anyone provide some insight as to why this may be?
I know SEO is the long game but is there anyway we can at least appear higher up locally?
-
Hello Ash!
Sorry to hear you're not yet ranking as well as you'd like to be. You're right that SEO is a long game, but here are some tips I hope will help you.
-
Remember that there are no absolute local or organic rankings. For each customer, the results will differ based on their locations at the time they search. This means you have multiple chances to rank well for different customers in different areas of your geographic market, for each search phrase you are focusing on.
-
When trying to assess why competitors are outranking you, you need to first find your true competitors. If you want to do this manually, here is a simple tutorial:
https://moz.com/blog/find-local-competitors
If you don't want to do the work manually and are a Moz Pro customer, please check out Local Market Analytics, which finds your organic competitors for you: https://moz.com/local-market-analytics-announcement
- Once you know who your competitors are, you are ready to audit them. The purpose of an audit is to stack up your metrics against theirs to discover why Google might be seeing them as a more relevant result than your business. You'll want to look at things like:
-
The absence/presence of spam/guideline violations in both your business listing and in the listings of competitors
-
Keywords in the business name and domain
-
Google My Business accuracy, activity, etc.
-
Citation consistency, spread, etc.
-
Domain authority and GMB landing page authority
-
Review count and sentiment
-
Links
-
Unstructured citations
-
Content quality
-
On-page SEO
-
The impact of Google filters, like Possum
etc.
Here is a post I wrote in 2017 about performing a basic local competitive audit between your business and one of its competitors. The post might need a little updating, but it will at least get you started with this work: https://moz.com/blog/basic-local-competitive-audit
-
Each competitive scenario will be different, but in general, what you'll typically see is that the brands outranking you in either the local or organic SERPs have some factors in which they are doing a stronger job than you. Once you know what those factors are, from your audit, you'll know where you need to focus your efforts to meet and then surpass them. This is the basis for all local SEO strategies.
-
If this is more than you can personally take on, then you may need to reach out to an agency for professional assistance with the audit and strategy.
Hope this helps!

Hello,
Personal training fort myers, sports performance training; personal training center are the key words.
What would you recommend doing for quality backlinks to my website?
-
What keyword are you searching to try and find your site? I am assuming your site is this one. If we can recreate the search and see the issue, we might be able to scan for stuff that the competitors are doing which you aren't doing (e.g: more local links / citations, schema, GMB usage)

What's better for SEO an Optimized Image URL vs Optimized Image File Name?
I would like to know what is best practice for optimizing images for our website. Is it better to give an Image an optimized filename Or an optimized URL for SEO? Or is it better to do both? Would there be any harm in doing both if they are identical in their format? Any help would be greatly appreciated. With thanks, Kate

Localized SEO for Restricted Niches
Sorry for the hypothetical, it's a sticky subject! Suppose I work for a company that offers Online Widget Counseling. Due to the fragile nature of Widgets, this service is only legal in one state and must be administered by a registered and regulated Widget Counseling company. Widget counseling is only available online so there is no competition from bricks and mortar stores. Unfortunately the SERPs are dominated by unscrupulous black market outfits offering Widget Counseling illegally. If we were to use intensive and strong local signals, could we expect the SERPs to favor our pages for searches "in or about" the state in which we are registered? Thanks for your help -SEO Newbie

Local Really?
I've asked this question before and got some strong advice ( I think ) but the results have been not so strong. I'm looking for advice on local. I have this profile: https://plus.google.com/u/0/114370561649922317296/about That I need to rank for "austin wedding photographers" and I have yet to figure out a way to get it to move on the map results. I understand these things take time, but its been a couple of months, and as far as I can tell, its still ranking on page 10 of the "local results" (meaning you search for austin wedding photographers, then click under the map listings to see Google Maps with the listings to the left.) Furthermore, all my organic competition for the most part is now on the local results and the map is ranking higher than all but one organic. Suggestions would be a huge plus. Last time some folks analyzed the google plus local page and gave some tips. Since then a few things have happened. 1. I notice most of the Google Local listings that come up on page 1 in the map have a similar page when clicking "more info." They mostly have a map as their cover photo on their listing. 2. Google has merged my Google Places and Google Plus Local account so that when you click "more info" on the listing (on page 10) it takes you too the branded Google Plus Local page. I like this, but it worries me that most of the high ranking pages don't have this. 3. I have added a Geo Sitemap to Google Webmaster tools but it doesn't show as indexed yet. I understand this can take up to 6 weeks? Does this help? It came when I bought Yoast SEO Local and generated KML files. 4. The address for Google Plus local is real address of a home, so Google doesn't show the specific address. I used to have a mailbox center as the address but was advised to fix that. I have sense changed the address on as many sites as I could (Yelp, YP, Superpages, etc.) 5. Do I need an address on the website? The client does not want her home address listed anywhere for privacy reasons. Hope this is enough information for someone with knowledge to help. The website is ranking first page (3 or 4 organically) for the terms I need for the most part but Local seems to be stronger. Thanks in advance.

Amount of time for info from local directories to show up in search engines
How long does it typically take for data to start showing up in search engines when you register on local directories and the yellow pages? For example, outside of google and bing, how long would it take for info to show up in the engines if I registered with the services on Get Listed?

Local SEO Best Practice
Hi We currently have 6 showrooms in a geographical area (Scotland,UK) and each showroom covers a specific region within the country encompassing towns and cities. So for example showroom A based in Edinburgh covers a customer area of Edinburgh, Fife, St Andrews while showroom B located in Glasgow covers Glasgow, Livingston etc In google places I have drawn the geographical area on the map that each showroom covers making sure that they do not overlap At present some of which are ranking well in local but one is stating that 'google does not support this location' and after following previous advice on the forum this is still the case. Would I be better setting up another google account for this showroom and submit it again into Google Places or would it be better going into Google+ business pages? or are they the same thing? Finally is it worth using the following in Google Places? KML File and Geo Sitemap generation (these files are needed for Google) Address output in Schema.org format

Off-Page Local SEO for a Home-Based Businesses?
What are some ideas for optimizing for off-page local SEO when you're working with home-based businesses that don't necessarily want to share their physical address, and using a PO box is not an option for major local SEO directories?
