Multiple on-page links to single domain
-
Hi,
the main focus of my question is to add a bit more information to my client as to where they are going wrong.
Firstly they have a directory on a third party domain with subdirectories containing all their product listings. All the links need to be no-follow for sure.
However, from a link juice passing perspective if there are per page say 20-30 links to varying URLs on the same domain is it still the same sort of calculation that the link juice is sufficiently weakened that each link has little value, or because the links are to the same domain there is an extra (potential) filter going on?

I'm going to take the easy way out and side-step the topic of PageRank, which Alan covers well, and raise the issue of relevance and weighting based on reasonable surfer assumptions.
Generally speaking,
- the first link on a page passes the most relevance, and
- links from unique domains pass more equity than links from previously linking sites. Meaning each new link from the same domain doesn't pass as much equity as the first link from that domain. It's the law of diminishing returns. http://moz.com/blog/10-illustrations-on-search-engines-valuation-of-links
From a practical point of view, I try to get the highest link on a page. After that, I don't worry too much about additional links to the same domain on that page. But there are a lot of factors that play into this, and your situation may differ.

no don't think so.
Going by the original algorithm this is what would happen. and all testing I have seen since then show page rank flows much the same way still.
When we say 100% that is 100% of the PR it had to pass, as only 85% of PR is passed, http://thatsit.com.au/seo/tutorials/a-simple-explanation-of-pagerank
Imagine the page has only one link, then 100% would pass to that one page, would google weaken it? then why weaken it if passed to 5 pages?
-
So external links (pretending these are the only links) on the page
link 1 example.com/spam1.html
link 2 example.com/spam2.html
link 3 example.com/spam3.html
link 4 example.com/spam4.html
link 5 example.com/spam5.html
would not pass 100% link juice surely? Google would pick this up as unnatural and weaken them?

Imaging a page with 5 links
link1 to domainA
link2 to domainA
link3 to domainA
link4 to domainB
link5 to domainB "no follow"
60% of link juice will go to domainA
20% will go to domainB
20% will be wasted (no-follow)
The link text for link1 and link4 will pass link text relevancy, the other link text will not pass any relevancy.
Its a bit more complicated than this because the first link passed a bit more then the last.

Link juice - What could be the reason for our bad internal page Page Authority
So OK we have a domain authority currently of 41, we are well established but unfortunately we don't have any pages with PA. I have a fair idea of why this is the case but want to get some other opinions before I form my strategy. 1.It appears our internal link structure is not great and is not very organised 2. It appears we have 58 links going externally on some pages. Some of these external links are social media icons in the footer which are followed. Is there any other factors I should be aware of when building PA on some of my inner pages. Any Thoughts would be appreciated.

What's more important page authority Vs domain authority?
Hello everyone, I am fairly new to SEO so I'm still trying to get my head round everything, I am currently looking into some back links .. well looking at competitor's back links to copy. I was just wondering what's more important page authority or domain authority? So for example if a page has a page authority of 50 and a domain authority of 10 is that better than if a page have page authority 10 and a domain authority of 50. Thanks so much in advance!

Are Links/Resources pages considered spam?
I'm dabbling with link building in a non link-happy industry, traffic safety (IE Traffic cones, barricades, safety vests, etc...). We currently are doing #RCS in terms of giveaways for college students as well as discounts in a wider EDU Outreach campaign as well as legitimate guest posting. I have started to use Link Prospector, and got a list of links/resources pages that we can get info from. I found some great links through here, including ways to get links from higher-profile .gov domains, but was wondering if it is worth it to go after the high(er) quality links/resources pages. By higher quality, I usually set a floor of a DA 25-30 and have a limited amount of external links per page. These would be for branded keywords (IE the company name/domain) and not exact match anchor text. I'd really like to see how other SEOs feel about this. Is link exchange a reliable source to get back links?
I read a latest post on seomoz that _“Do not buy or exchange link with anyone who contacts you. This is completely against Google's policies and if they were to find out, you could be penalized." So I went through Google's ''Link Schemes'' and found that ''Excessive link exchanging ("Link to me and I'll link to you")'' can negatively impact a site's ranking . _ So is it the ''excessive'' link exchanging that can cause a negative impact? Exchanging links with good quality, cached sites (without excessive doing) can do good or bad? Can anyone please explain to me in detail?

Why does opensiteexplorer tell me I have 292 linking domains and google webmasteer tools says 528?
Does anyone have any idea why opensiteexplorer has a specific number of linking domains while google webmaster tools say another? I understand opensiteexplorer needs to update itself, but I have seen this discrepancy for months! Any ideas?
