Are Tags in Blogs good?
-
Hi
Is adding tags into Blogs a good idea? Does it help with SEO at all?
For example blog/?tag=/Invoicing-Software Will that help us get ranked for Invoicing Software?
Regards
Andrew

I agree with both Alan and Mike, there is no real SEO value you will gain from using tags on your blog. As Mike says, usability is probably the only reason to use tags. If you're using WordPress, Dan Shure posted a pretty good article on setting up WordPress for SEO last May.

Thanks Both that is what I thought

The only potential value in blog tags is for the sake of usability. The SEO values are negligible at best and most wind up noindexing Tag archives anyway in order to save themselves from duplicate content issues. The value of relevant tags on a blog is that they help tie together other relevant articles on a subject to make them more easily accessible and tie all the posts together with something akin to an overarching theme. Use them for the sake of giving human users another way to find related content that may keep them on site longer.

They cause duplicate content problems, I don't think people use them much, and IMO they look tacky.
They have no SEO Value I can think of.

Referencing links in Articles and Blogs
Hi I am wondering if the tag in html is picked up by google as a reference point? I.e when you put a superscript in word it puts a small number next to your sentence. Then you have a list of reference at the end of the blog/article does google recognise this?

Hash tag
We are using the hash tag on our redesign for faceted search. So, for example it will look like this www.example.com#fun123. I was looking into how i could exclude my faceted search from my robots.txt, but i was recently told I wouldnt need to do this since Googlebot doesnt index the hash tags or anything after it anyway. All of the articles I've read online do not give me a straight answer. Has google answered this one for certain? Thanks!

Blog Categories or Static Pages
Background: We're creating a site that for a service provider on a wordpress platform, and it will include a blog with a page for each service category. Let's say the client is a wedding photographer we'd create a page for studio portraits, events, wedding, newborns, family etc. Question: Should each category page be a stand-alone page or a blog category? As a blog category it will be updated with new content continually and automatically. However, it could cause duplicate content issues as well as keyword dilution. Research: I've done research and obviously there are conflicting opinions - skip categories altogether, categories bring traffic, problems & solutions. I'm hoping for your opinion on the matter, or direction to content on the issue that will be helpful. Blog categories yay or nay?

Canonical tag, CNAME and 301 redirect
I have a website with a couple of domains pointing to one IP address. Let's say I have two domains www.example.com and www.example.ca I also see during my SEO analysis that the example.com and the www.example.com (same for the example.ca and the www.example.ca) are triggering server responses. How do I deal with this issue for best SEO. Canonical links? CNAME, or 301 redirects? thanks
