Can Ecommerce help with Keyword Rankings?
-
I am curious to know if an ecommerce website plays a role in higher rankings. we have been struggling for some time on a term and all of our competitors have an online shopping cart. we have a custom magento website with a request a quote form as our products are very costly. (range from $500 - $250,000).
Is there something we can add to the code to help boost our rankings?
-
If I had products like that I would have multiple articles about each product. These articles would cover every possible, probable, detail, benefit, aspect, question, concern, etc. that a customer might have about these products.
I do that for products that sell for under $100 and all of that content on all of those pages gives me an excellent chance of pulling in traffic on almost every primary, secondary, and long tail keyword in my niche.
It also makes my site stand out as the place for information and the people who know what they are talking about. So, even if I don't beat them on rankings, I beat then on exhibited knowledge. For items under $100 that delivers a lot of sales - even if my prices are not the lowest. I get lots of links from forums where people are talking about these products and they link to my information pages as a way of answering questions and settling arguments.
I believe that this comprehensive content approach is very helpful for my rankings, pulls in the long tail traffic and convinces customers for whom trust is important.
It is very expensive and time-consuming to build this type of attack but in my opinion, it paid before panda and penguin and is paying even better now as I see competitors dropping from the SERPs.

How do your other metrics compare to your competitors (amount of unique content, user engagement, domain authority, number of links, etc). Those are more likely to impact your rankings than having a shopping cart or not.
-
I'm pretty confident that presence of a cart does not, in itself, boost rankings.
I can see that there might be correlation between high rankings and commerce enabled sites though. Those sites possible have higher budgets, which means that more time/money is going in to things that do have impact on rankings.
There might also be some secondary effect where the presence of a store is encouraging the type of quality signals that Google does like: Customers might be spending longer on those sites, returning more frequently, sharing pages more often and the site picking up more links i the process.
Keep focused on known ranking signals.

Hi Moz community, Our website has global audience, visitors and clients. Suddenly our website dropped in rankings for main keyword in US; which is our primary targeting country. Not sure why? This is been happening for last 2 months, we waited it to recover and now trying to fix if we can do anything about it. Is there anything wrong with back-links? Google's stand on LSI keywords?
Hi all, So the keywords which appear while typing some keywords and suggested keywords at the bottom of the search results page are refereed as LSI keywords. I been noticing some of the LSI keywords for years related to our industry and Google now suddenly changed them. I wonder why it would be. I can see competitors are started using those LSI keywords widely, is that the reason Google changed them? Thanks

3 Subdomains - Can their authority or ranking affect each other?
HI, We have 3 different subdomains that target completely different industries.

a.example.com - school reviews
b.example.com - healthcare reviews
c.example.com - car reviews Q1: If any of the above subdomains gets demoted or penalized by Google would that affect the other subdomains? Q2: Moving forward with all the new changes in SEO, penalties, etc; would it be wise to utilize 3 subdomains for different industries or should we consider getting separate domains?0 -

What to do with eCommerce site with color variations of the same product?
On our eCommerce website we sell products that each have about 20 color variations. When the site was built each color variation was added individually instead as a single product with a configurable color option. Would it be best to combine the different variations into a single product with a configurable drop down menu for color or to leave as is? I am worried the search engines see the individual product pages for each color as duplicate content. What are your thoughts on how Zappos handles color variations? On the category page they display each color variation as an individual product but when the product is clicked it goes to a single product page with the different configurable color variations. Thanks

How To Rank High In Google Places?
Hello SEOmoz, This question has been hounding me for a long time and I've never seen a single reliable information from the web that answers it. Anyway here's my question; Supposing that there are three Google places for three different websites having the same categories and almost same keywords and same district/city/IP how does Google rank one high from the other? Or simply put if you own one of those websites and you would want to rank higher over your competitors in Google places Search results how does one do it? A number of theories were brought up by some of my colleagues: 1. The age of the listing 2. The number of links pointing to the listing (supposing that one can build links to ones listing) 3. The name/url of the listing, tags, description, etc. 4. The address of the listing. 5. Authority of the domain (linked website) You see some listings have either no description, and only one category and yet they rank number one for a specific term/keyword whereas others have complete categories, descriptions etc. If you could please give me a definite answer I will surely appreciate it. Thank you very much and more power!
