New feature on the SERPs - anyone know what this is!?
-
Hey guys,
I've just been doing a bit of searching to give the new Penguin update a good going over and came across the following result on the right side of the page.
As you can see, it's a link to the site that's sitting at the top of the SERP.
At first, however, I thought it was some snazzy AdWords feature. Although, having clicked into the link "20 hours ago", it seems that Google has pulled the snippet from the diy-kitchens.com's Google+ feed.
Anyone seen this before? Is it a new thing? Is it only the top result that's able to get a snippet from Google+?
-
I didn't have them circled previously. But I do now.
-
Cool, nice find. Is that a company you have circled?
-
It's definitely pulling the latest update from the website's Google+ page.
Just tried it in a clean IE browser and it shows me the same too.
-
That doesn't look exactly like a G+ profile in SERPs - at least not how they're typically displayed. Is the link to a G+ profile?
There's a chance this might be related to a browser extension or plugin that you've given access, and is now serving you ads. Adware used to do this sort of thing all the time. Do you see the link come up when you're signed out in a clean browser with no extensions?
-
I typed in "DIY Kitchens", yeah. I believe that site is just an eCommerce website -rather than a physical store.
-
Yeah I think that I have seen that before. It looks like a G+ Local page for a company.
Is DIY Kitchens the name of a store in your area, and is "DIY Kitchens" what you searched for?

New Google SERPs page title lengths, 60 characters?
It seems that the new Google SERPs have a shorter page title character length? From what I can gather they are 60 characters in length. Does this mean we all need to now optimise our page titles to 60 characters? Has anyone else noticed this and made any changes to page title lengths?

Increased importance given to spammy/educational domains in SERPs!?
Hey guys, Can anyone shed some light on these bizarre and confusing SERPs which Google seems to be producing following their latest update?? For example, we have a client who targets "payday loans" with another targeting "IT services". However, since the update, the former keyword brings back a host of spammy domain results while the latter seems to have given all focus to educational institutions like universities. This just seems utterly ludicrous considering that if I'm searching for "IT services" I don't want the help desk of a local university - that's completely irrelevant, right? Can anyone provide some information on what seems to be going on? Thanks

One SERP Result, Two Different Link Destinations?
Because my vocabulary isn't up to par, it may be easier for you to skip ahead to the image I've attached. One of my web pages shows up in the Google SERP like this. It has the blue "title" link that goes to one page (URL A), and under that, there is a green "breadcrumb" link that goes to a different page (URL B). Any idea why this is happening and how it can be fixed? Thanks in advance, Benjamin FjhUX.jpg

Anyone else noticing that Bing & Yahoo are delivering widely different results
Anyone else noticing that Bing & Yahoo are delivering widely different results in past week. Prior to that after they started using Bing SE it seemed like they were identical, but no more. I am using RankTracker and getting this on several web sites.

Has anyone recovered from Panda?
My two websites were unaffected by the original and 2.0 panda updates, but istring in June my traffic has been down around 30%. In analyzing it appears that my long tail searches have been greatly impacted. So it looks like I am a victim of the mighty panda. My main site, www.uncontesteddivorce-nyc.com is in my opinion a decent looking site, with unique content and no ads, etc., but for whatever reason it has been negatively affected. There might be some duplication of content between certain pages and also my links are all or practically all directory links, though a lot are pretty heavy duty directories. I see a lot of stuff written giving advice on how to recover from Panda. Has anyone actually done so? How did you do it? thx Paul

Referencing this article: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/07/06/google_cans_11m_dot_co_dot_cc_sites/ Curious what the ramifications of this to SEO (improve rankings over spammy results, etc) and to hear thoughts on this.
