Crawl Errors and Notices drop to zero
-
Hi all,
After setting up a campaign in Moz the crawl is successful and it showed the Errors and Warnings in crawl diagnostics (each one had about 40-50), but after a few days the number dropped to zero. Only the "notices" seems to stay normal, with a slight drop since the campaign set up, but not dropping to zero. I set this campaign up in a colleague's account and the same thing happened shortly after set up. I didn't find any Q&A already posted so any insight is appreciated!

Glad I could help!

Thank you for looking into this. Really appreciate it!

Hey Vanessa,
Every URL that is in the report you forwarded is on the blog, so it definitely looks like the noindex tag on the blog is the reason for the drop in crawl errors and warnings. If you prefer that we begin crawling the blog again, you can have that tag removed, but the tag also means that the search engines aren't indexing those pages or finding those errors any longer either.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks for looking into this, Chiaryn. That is the correct campaign. I have a report from April 17 and I sent it to help@seomoz.org. If you can shed any light on this that would be a big help. I appreciate it!

Hey Vanessa,
Thanks for writing in.
I looked into your account and I think you are referring to the Sparky campaign. Unfortunately, I can only see the most recent crawl data, so I don't have a way to compare the crawls from prior to April 24th to see why the number of errors and warnings would have dropped off around that time.
I do see that we picked up a noindex, nofollow tag on the blog pages on April 16th, so it may be that we were crawling other pages on the blog that had errors and warnings before the tag was added. But once the noindex, nofollow tags were added, we weren't able to crawl those pages and report back on the errors.
If you can think of any other changes that may have taken place around April or if you have an old report that shows some of the URLs that were reported as having errors, I can look into this further for you. If you prefer not to include the error report on this public forum, you can always email it to help@seomoz.org and include my name in the subject line.
I hope this helps.
Chiaryn

Shopify crawl issues
Hi Moz'ers, I am a total newcomer to this level of seo. Recently I transitioned to Shopify and I'm puzzled by why I'm getting 803 errors - incomplete crawl attempts due to server timing out. Wouldn't this have to do with Shopify? How would I go about fixing it? I'm also getting 804 - SSL issues, but I assume that will go away. Any advice? Thanks! Sharon

Has anyone noticed that there are no local results in their keyword rankings?
Is anyone else having this issue? The universal rankings are not populating in my keyword rankings tool for any of my clients. Is this something that SEOmoz changedrecently?

Why does Crawl Diagnostics report this as duplicate content?
Hi guys, we've been addressing a duplicate content problem on our site over the past few weeks. Lately, we've implemented rel canonical tags in various parts of our ecommerce store, over time, and observing the effects by both tracking changes in SEOMoz and Websmater tools. Although our duplicate content errors are definitely decreasing, I can't help but wonder why some URLs are still being flagged with duplicate content by our SEOmoz crawler. Here's an example, taken directly from our Crawl Diagnostics Report: URL with 4 Duplicate Content errors:
Moz Pro | | yacpro13
/safety-lights.html Duplicate content URLs:
/safety-lights.html ?cat=78&price=-100
/safety-lights.html?cat=78&dir=desc&order=position /safety-lights.html?cat=78 /safety-lights.html?manufacturer=514 What I don't understand, is all of the URLS with URL parameters have a rel canonical tag pointing to the 'real' URL
/safety-lights.html So why is SEOMoz crawler still flagging this as duplicate content?0 -

How to handle crawl diagnostic errors for the same url. /products & /products/
I have copied on of the errors out of the crawl diagnostics report. Both /products and /products/ are returning an error, and both have pretty good domain authority so I feel like its hurting my site that these show up this way. Both urls create the same page, should I just setup a 301 on the /products with no slash or will that cause more harm... I am using the MODx cms system and that could have something to do with it. | Products | Datalight http://www.datalight.com/products 1 37 5 Products | Datalight http://www.datalight.com/products/ | 1 | 30 | 1 |

The Site Explorer crawl shows errors for files/folders that do not exist.
I'm fairly certain there is ultimately something amiss on our server but the Site Explorer report on my website (www.kpmginstitutes.com) is showing thousands of folders that do not exist. Example: For my "About Us" page (www.kpmginstitutes.com/about-us.aspx), the report shows a link: www.kpmginstitutes.com/rss/industries/404-institute/404-institute/about-us.aspx. We do have "rss", "industries", "404-institute" folders but they are parallel in the architecture, not sequential as indicated in the error url. Has anyone else seen these types of error in your Site Explorer reports?
