Good Adwords resources/ Guides

I'm going to be taking over the PPC for my company. A 3rd party currently does it but I have done a review and they have not been doing a great job ( I spotted a few very basic mistakes), so we want to switch it to in house
I have experience with PPC, and I'm confident on the basic of it, but I was looking for a good (recent) PPC resource or guide so I can make sure I'm doing it right, basicly a ppcmoz
For example current the campaigns are set to accelerated, but I have been told that is very wasteful, but the 3rd party explanation is:"We set the campaigns to be accelerated to avoid missing out on potential sales. These can be set to standard if you wish however there is a higher chance that sales could be missed."
Which is correct?

I use accelerated ad serving for all clients campaigns. It's the only way to get 100% impression share. For example, a campaign set to standard ad serving, with a daily budget of $240, will stop serving ads when you spend $10 in an hour. $240 daily budget is really $10 hour.

I agree with Martijn. There isn't really one PPC resource but the two he listed are great. The only problem I have with Certified Knowledge is they don't date stamp their blog entries. So the information could be from yesterday, or 8 years ago.
I collaborated on this project and still think that it's a great way to get started understanding how to build & manage PPC campaigns, even though the landscape is changing quite rapidly. It's a step by step guide for small businesses on how to navigate AdWords campaigns and management. Each section links out to a relevant articles so it takes the guesswork out of figuring out where there are valuable resources.
Distilled is also working on creating PPC modules for DistilledU, however that won't help you out right now. I wish I were superwoman and I could have it completely finished for you tomorrow! However, Keep asking PPC questions here. There are several people who manage accounts answering questions and several other people willing to correct them if they are wrong. Moz is still the place to learn from peers.
If you are trying to determine whether or not you should use the Accelerated setting, I would take it off for now - ESPECIALLY while you are learning and understanding subtle nuances. You will see a difference, but set your manager's expectations: You're new and starting out and traffic will fluctuate while you are learning. It's only to be expected.

I haven't found any great PPC guides (and I purchased most of them). Check out the adwords blog is useful and the last Perry Marshall book was ok (some good ideas/insights).

Hi Paddy,
I wouldn't call it the Moz for PPC but would recommend at least following the Certified Knowledge blog and PPCHero. They both are excellent resources for information about PPC and Google Adwords in particular.
Regarding you're question about accelerated showing your ads in a campaign. It differs on the competitiveness and so on the budget you have to spend on your campaigns. If the budgets are within like maximum 50 dollars and you have the experience that your campaigns never run out of budget then you surely can put this on accelerated. Because I've seen it happen to miss out a couple of sales because Google thought we would hit our daily budget and so on didn't give us all the clicks for the day and eventually we didn't ran out of budget.

How do YOU do an AdWords Audit?
Audits Audits Audits! I am overhauling my AdWords Audit Process and the Documentation and I was wondering if any generous souls our there mind sharing a few ideas or learnings that they have had along the way? I aim to make it as thorough but as quick and automated (think scripts) as possible. I'm also 14 pages into the documentation that I will use for some audits that include explanations, recommendations & definitions. I'd love to hear your opinions on what to Audit, how to audit and how to report on it 🙂

AdWords/Analytics Paid Search conversions not matching up - any idea why?
Hi all, Any ideas as to why AdWords and Analytics are showing different Paid Search conversion numbers for me when I check on a daily basis? Both accounts are linked, they share the same destination URLs to trigger a conversion, some days each reflects the same amount of conversions, then some days it's anything from 1-5 conversions different (Analytics is always the one to show more). Thanks M

Trademarked words in in Google Adwords ads - Why do competitors get to use them?
Hi, The keyword I want to use in my ad is trademarked, so they disqualified my ad. The trademark was specifically cited as the reasoning. I tried this across maybe 5 different ads. All disqualified The thing I don't understand is that there are like 10 other advertisers who are actively using this "trademarked" word in their ads. It's not like 1 scooted past Google, there's a ton of advertisers doing it. So how do I get past them or were they grandfathered in or something? FYI... I tried dynamic insert to see if that could my "trademarked" word in the back door, but no luck. Any other ideas? Thanks!

Which landing page is used to calculate "Landing Page Experience" of a keyword in Adwords?
In Google Adwords, one ad group can have multiple landing pages, yet keywords are shared. So when I look at the keywords, they use one of the landing pages from ads, but which one? Shall we create separate ad groups and set only one landing page per group to avoid this problem? If this is the way then how come landing page is not a shared property like the keywords in ad groups? I hope someone with enough Google Adwords experience can help me here. Thanks,

In Google Adwords, can I create negative dollar-amount keywords?
example of negative keywords: -$40 driving lessons -35 dollar driving lessons The driving lessons I'm selling are $55 an hour, so I obviously don't want unqualified leads chewing through my budget when they clearly don't want to spend $55 on a lesson. I already have the price mentioned in my ads, but I want to negative out the dollar amounts because people are still stupid enough to click without reading the ad. Any help will be appreciated! Matt
