Best E-commerce CMS from a SEO perspective
-
Hello fellow mozzers,
I have a lot of experience with Magento and a little bit of experience with Prestashop and i am quite aware of their strengths and weaknesses regarding SEO.
I was wondering which E-commerce CMS is the best for SEO. I am talking about the CMS as you download it. There are hundreds of plugins for the popular systems which improve their SEO power tremendously, but i'm interested in which CMS is the best right out-of-the-box.
Let me know what you think and why you think so.
Thanks in advance

Thank you for the reply on the thread. I will definitely check you guys out sometime in the near future
It's really good that you added the schema.org markup on the product pages. Your users will really benefit from that.

Hey Wesley, I apologize for the plug here but as the SEO Manager for Volusion I am working diligently to create the best ecommerce solution for SEOs out-of-box. You don't have to use/purchase additional apps or plugins or anything like that. One thing we've added recently is schema.org markup for product pages. Please do check us out and let me know what you think. Good luck!

I like Magento, and also Volusion if you are comfortable with being hosted on a Windows server. Though I have never used BigCommerce for one of my sites, I plan on checking them out in the near future because a few sites I've done audits for were on that platform and, at least from an SEO standpoint, they looked pretty solid. I have no idea what modules or plugins they were using though.

Wesley,
The default SEO settings with Magento are very good. I agree with Bradley that you need some modules to perfect the SEO features. These are all default SEO Features
-
Titles
-
Meta Description
-
Alt Text for images
-
SEO Friendly URL's
-
XML Sitemap is an easy add on

Thank you Paddy, Carla and bradley for your answers.
For everyone else, this thread is not so much of a question, but more of a discussion of what YOU think is the best and why you think so. Would be cool to see some people's opinions and experiences with different CMS's. -
Out of the box it has to be Magento, but you can extend it even further with modules.
-
Hi Wesley,
I find Magento to be awesome from an SEO point of view. You have two options Magento Community and the paid version. Magento community is very complete.
-
I can't tell you which is the best as I have only used a few (I think most people are the same)
I have used zen-cart alot, and with ceon-seo module (free), I have had very good results seo wise. But I had to do alot of custom work to it (eg rich snips etc), but the good thing about opensource your in complete control, it also has a good community.
But I would guess its not the best option out there, but I would recommend it for small businesses that want to get started on the small budget.
A competitor used x-cart and he does very well seo wise (rich snips and all), but I have no idea if that's out of the box, or they have done alot of custom work on it.
Currently we are on a small closed E-commerce CMS (not zen-cart) which is very frustrating, I so I'm planning to migrate to a different E-commerce. Magento seems to be the top contender, but as someone with experience with it, what's its pros and cons?

SEO rank down 35%
So I recently switched from an Opencart website to a Magento 2 website and my rank has dropped by 35% two weeks later, this is bad news. My old Magento website was 5 years old and was in desperate need of an upgrade, hence the Magento 2 site. I realised today that the canonical URLs on my stores were set to the individual stores as opposed to one store, thus I expect resulting in duplicate content issues (even though Google Webmaster Tools didn't show it). I'm just wondering if anyone else can see something I may be missing? My sites are: thespacecollective.com (primary) thespacecollective.com/us/ (canonical to primary) Thank you!

Json LD e-commerce site with Excellent implementation of all markup features
Hi all I am looking for some really good clear examples of sites that have excellent JSON LD markup. Not just the basics but packed to the teeth with markup for every element. I am particularly interested in e-commerce applications as I am re skinning our e-commerce platform written from scratch in house. It is far from perfect, not mobile friendly and well a bit backward but links into everything we have in a seamless way all the way to our manufacturing plant. Take a look have a little laugh and then take pity 🙂 https://www.spurshelving.co.uk/shop/shop.aspx Thanks Pete

Why does some sites rank with no seo
Why is it that some site rank with zero efforts? I have been working on some seo for a while on my main site and i have been getting more info competition analysis with sem and moz. Looking at the states from this website which tends to popup often in the searches on page 1-2 before my site. This site is not keyword optimized, meaning they arent even trying to rank.

There is no content, articles etc.,
6 backlinks (nothing powerful just 2 directory links and 2 from developer)
Site really isnt even designed to get traffic as its a trade only ecommerce website
I doubt they are hiding anything as far as backlinks etc. as it will get them too many visitors they dont want
The city i am searching isnt even on the page (it is a city within a city so maybe google still relates it)
PA 24 DA 15 Now my site:
Optimized reasearched keywords
175 backlinks
All my main pages have content with images, alt tags, internal linking
full of content, blogs, videos, products (probably 4000, could a site being too big be an issue?)
Site gets regular updates
I probably have 200 citations
All the social media which gets done often
PA 32 DA 20 They do get a good bit of traffic but that is probably the only thing i would see but it would be direct traffic mostly i believe as it would be people going to order regularly since it is a print reseller. They may have some age on me 15 vs 8 years. Could it be some kind of penalty i am not sure about lingering? According to what i know to check everyything looks ok, no shady links accoding to sem. I am working more and more on all the pages but this competittion site really doesnt have crap going on probably 8 pages and 1 page does all the ordering. What the hell does google want from me exactly!0 -
What is best practice for "Sorting" URLs to prevent indexing and for best link juice ?
We are now introducing 5 links in all our category pages for different sorting options of category listings.
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | lcourse
The site has about 100.000 pages and with this change the number of URLs may go up to over 350.000 pages.
Until now google is indexing well our site but I would like to prevent the "sorting URLS" leading to less complete crawling of our core pages, especially since we are planning further huge expansion of pages soon. Apart from blocking the paramter in the search console (which did not really work well for me in the past to prevent indexing) what do you suggest to minimize indexing of these URLs also taking into consideration link juice optimization? On a technical level the sorting is implemented in a way that the whole page is reloaded, for which may be better options as well.0 -
SEO Company Referral
I am looking for a great US based SEO company referral. I try to do as much as I can on my end but the more I learn, then more I find I need help to do a great job. Lately running the business takes most of my time, and we need a team who really specializes in SEO. Can anyone recommend a SEO company with a great reputation, someone who has done great work for you in the past? I get many people contacting me with SEO promises, but I need some advice from someone with more experience than me. I appreciate all of your insights.
