What software do you use/work within for SEO?

Hi,
Our site was put together in Dreamweaver and I'm not great at using html so I use Contribute to modify the info on our site.
There are some limitations using Contribute so I'm wondering what other people use.
Thanks for your input!

Thanks! I'll explore html some more.

Hi Kevin,
Thanks for your response! It certainly wouldn't hurt for me to become more fluent using html. I have learned a little over the years but my SEO work doesn't get as much attention (yet!) as I'd like it to...it's a part of our marketing mix but a pretty small percentage.
I've looked at Lynda.com before. I'll have to see if there's a good course for my beginner level.
Thanks again!
Karl

Hi Bradley,
Thanks a lot for this answer! We (me and my designer) are slowly building a WP site to replace our current CSS site. It was this SEO improvement in mind we started this but the building has been pretty slow-going.
I've looked at the Yoast plugin and we will get that added into the new site.
Of course it wouldn't hurt if I was more fluent in html...just haven't made the time to work on that recently.
Thanks again,
Karl

It's helpful to use Dreamweaver with the visual and code views showing together - it helps you see what you are doing.
It would help you to learn basic HTML and there's plenty of free help online.
We use CMS now but sometimes I wish I could go back to sites editable in Dreamweaver for the ability to have more control.

If you're not great at HTML, then perhaps you should consider having your site converted to WordPress. The initial cost will definitely be outweighed by the long-term benefits.
WordPress will allow you to edit and add new content with little or no HTML/CSS knowledge. You'll be able to use a WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) interface to add text and style it however you see fit.
If you install the WordPress SEO by Yoast plugin, you'll be able to update the title tag, meta description tag by post, set up open graph meta tags, the meta robots tag, and much much more - again - all without any HTML knowledge.

In the way of editors, I typically use notepad++ and Dreamweaver. I find hand coding is sometimes the best way of editing things.
I think to be "good" at SEO, someone should have understanding of HTML/CSS. Lynda has some great courses on how to get started.

Why is this spammy tactic working?
We've recently taken over this account and are baffled how the previous SEO company has been attaining rankings. Why in the world is this spammy tactic still working in this day and age? This is one of many landing pages on the website consisting of an iframe of the home page and a hidden article. The page had a ton of spammy incoming links with spammy anchor text from horribly spammy blog posts. https://www.tallorder.com/Pages.php?socks-dress-calf-wide-mens-16-13-size-tall-very-12-store-sock-online.htm

Infinite scroll SEO
I was curious about the implications of Infinite scroll homepages on SEO, and more specifically, no-indexing subpages of the homepage (ie www.homepage.com/page/2/ ). I know its often a good practice to noindex subpages of archives, but in this case, would it be a bad idea? Thanks!

Left Nav / SEO
We are in the middle of a redesign and would love to get rid of our left navigation. It's currently full of SEO rich categories and has been the same for 10+ years. Our programmers think removing the left navigation will have no impact on our SEO. As SEO's, do you agree with this?

Infinite Scrolling Long Lists and SEO
Just curious if anyone else has tried this. I have pages with words that link to definitions. I have A LOT of them on a page and I am starting the process of trying to either do pagination (which I cant stand) or even cooler infinite scrolling where the page loads more words as the user scrolls. Good Bad for SEO?
