WMT reporting big drop in links today

Has anyone else noticed a huge drop in inbound links in WMT tools today? I've seen a 50% slump overnight in 2 of my projects. Definitely something still stirring over at the Google data centres!

absolutely agree, I dont take Google WMT as the real measure of actual links, but its a pretty accurate barometer of what Google will use to rank your site.
Bing webmaster tools show the same figures today as they did yesterday, so they are still there but google WMT has obviously thought again about which it will index/recognise for link juice.

It does happen from time to time with GWT where you see a large loss in backlink data.
My advice is to track your backlinks profile with OSE, Majestic and Ahrefs. It is best to monitor numerous sources rather than just relying on one source, as GWT will only ever show a sample of your full link profile.

A Sudden Drop in Keyword Ranking but why?
Hi, I wondered if anyone has ever experienced anything like this before, one of our customers has a website JDB Events (http://www.jdb-events.com/). When he first came to us he was using Fast Hosts and he was experiencing down time pretty much every day in periods of up to an hour. The first step before carrying out any SEO was to place the website on our VPS so that the downtime issue was resolved. It did resolve the issue and the speed of the website was also increased. My next issue was to address the length of the Title on the home page because it was 157 characters, I usually keep these to 70 characters. This is the old Meta Title: JDB Events Limited - Event, Production & AV Hire Specialists | The West Midlands Dance Floor Hire, LED Furniture, DJ, Disco Hire & Event Services Specialists Here is the my new Meta Title: JDB Events | LED Furniture Hire for Parties and Corporate Events I have attached a screenshot of the drop that I have experienced, would anyone recommend that it's ok to keep the title longer so that I can cram more search terms into it, I use Woo Rank as a bench mark and this recommends shortening the title but I would be interested in hearing anyone's views. Other steps that I have taken: Shortened the home page description WWW Resolve Added Robots.txt Crawled all of the pages for 404 errors etc The next step I'm thinking of taking is replacing the amended meta title and description for the old one and monitoring that, other than that I can't see why I have taken such a hit. How come some local 7 pack listings link to site and some link to the G+ page?
Does anyone know how to fix this issue? Even though a site profile has had the website added to it Google continues to link the main "title tag" link to the G+ page and not the actual website domain. Google analytics realtime reporting same keywords with different capitalization
I was just looking in my analytics and I saw something I have never seen before. Maybe its old news but its new to me. I have attached a screen shot. I have 2 keywords listed which are the same but are capitalized different scrabble dictionary Scrabble dictionary Does Google really consider these different? PlstfwR

Massive Google Drop on two sites!
Hi All, We have experienced a massive Google drop on Two of our eCommerce websites in the past week. From Feb - July we were ranked 2 for various key words In Aug we dropped to 8 In September to 96 if not lower. We pay for monthly link building and add unique product info each week (but not much new content such as articles or blogs). My SEO guys has not been that helpful and just sent me a link to the Panda update blog, which doesn't mean a great deal to me. Obviously this has had a massive effect on business, and ideally i need to diagnose the problem and find a new startegy on moving forward, so most likely looking for a for a new SEO guy/company as well. I need someone is proactive, communicates well and make constant suggestions about moving forward not just link building. One thing I would like to add is these two site have a different homepage, category and range structure, but do share some if the 2000 product database. Can anyone help? Any advice on sorting this would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks M

HELP! 75% Drop in Traffic with no Explaination
Hello Everyone, After looking at one of my websites, http://pokeronamac.com/ I noticed that there is a significant drop in all traffic to my site. I cannot figure out what the exact source is, as we received no warnings in WMT, and as far as I know there are no major updates released in the last week or so by Google. I took a look at the content section of GA and I saw that virtually all of my content was seeing a decrease in traffic, meaning that it isn't specific to a few pages, which leads me to believe that it is an algorithmic penalty. My confusion was that there was no changes made to the website in the past few months, although, on September 10th (5 days after traffic dropped) I updated the meta descriptions and titles site wide. I don't believe that the penalty is from Panda or Penguin because we actually experienced a positive influx in traffic during the week of April 25th. I'd appreciate any insights into helping me recover from this so I can get the visits again that I had before. If any other metrics are required, i'd gladly provide them. Hi there! we are all aware about the importance of user behaviour in search results. But I am a bit short of ideas in how a good report/analysis of this specific topic would be. So far, I have managed to do the following: Usability tests and anlysis using tools like crazy egg, in order to check how is the traffic flow and the call to actions to the best products regarding people who come from SEO traffic. GA analysis focused on: bounce rate, page views and traffic flow Is there anything else you would add to these two items to get the most out of this topic? thanks a lot in advance!!
