Adwords & Analytics Different Product Listing Results
-
Hi
We have recently set up a Product Listings ad campaign via AdWords and have seen some impressive initial figures in our AdWords account. However, when viewing data from the same period in Analytics it shows completely different statistics.
For example, from 1st-16th June, AdWords shows 604 clicks and 29 conversions from our Product Listings campaign but Google Analytics only shows 23 clicks and 0 conversions across the same period.
Any ideas why these variations show? Is there any additional tracking code that needs to be inserted at all?
Thanks

I'm not completely familiar with how PLAs are incorporated into GA. When you say the conversions are coming back as organic traffic - is it for brand or non-brand?
If you're analyzing the data in GA by the last non-direct channel attribution then this could definitely have an impact on how many conversions appear if the funnel is more complicated.
Are your items rather expensive? Is there a longer research phase to your products?

Hi Peter
Thanks for your input, we already use utm tagging for our regular PPC campaigns but don't have it set up for the PLA campaign. Does this need to be set up within Merchant Centre for the specific products or can it be done via AdWords? Thanks

Hi Leon
Might be an idea to look at some sample urls. We've seen this issue where redirects are in place and they have broken the gclid autotagging. You could also add some utm link tagging (https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/1033867?hl=en-GB) to provide additonal tracking.
Best regards,
Peter

Hi Branden
As usual there have always been slight discrepancies between the two sets of figures before but none anywhere near to this.
After looking into this a bit further it looks like the traffic that is being sent via the PLA campaign is being shown as Organic traffic in GA, any ideas on why this would be the case at all?
In reference to your questions - we have used the auto targeting option to set up the PLA campaign, our Analytics code is on every page, there are minor discrepancies in our regular PPC campaigns (5-10%) and yes the problem does seem to be isolated to the PLA campaign.
Thanks

There is definitely something going on. AdWords & Analytics numbers are usually off by a few %, but not 95%. My guess is that you are missing data from Analytics, since its numbers are much lower than AdWords.
did you enable auto tagging in AdWords? Is your Analytics code on all of the pages in the funnel? are your Analytics conversion goals setup? Are you seeing a discrepancy in your adwords search campaigns? ...is this problem isolated to your PLA campaign?

Adding AdWords Remarketing Pixel to "Partner" Domains?
I have read through the AdWords advertising policies, but there isn't an extremely clear answer to my question: does it break AdWords policy to include a remarketing pixel on a partner website? Example - I own and run 123boats.com, my acquaintance who owns abchotels.com has agreed to put my remarketing pixel on his website, and I plan to show remarketing ads to his website visitors advertising my services at 123boats.com. Is anyone aware of any documentation that explicitly allows or disallows this type of "partner" remarketing tracking?

Which of my products should I advertise for first using Adwords?
Serious Adwords noob here. I have been reading a great deal in preparation for my first Adwords campaign. Strangely enough, I have not been able to find information that might help me determine which of my 180+ products I should begin with and use in my first campaign. I imagine that there is some sort of general criterion like the highest selling item, lowest, one meeting certain criterion in the popularity of it's keywords/difficulty, one with least competition or, most likely, something that I haven't even thought of. Does anyone have any suggestions or a link to something I might be able to read to solve this? Thanks for your help!

Is there any reason to add the word "buy" to our Adwords keywords?
Was having a discussion with someone so I am going to write this up as neutral as possible and let you guys decide. We have a large keyword list and they are all setup as phrase. Should we go back and add the word buy in front of all those keywords? Even though they are setup as phrase already. Example: "Widget" (as a phrase) Should we go back and add "Buy Widget" as a keyword?

Adword competition between exact match and related broad match
If I have two company A and B. Company A: bid on key word exact [Nike and Jordan] Company B: bid on broad match Jordan shoesks Considering that broad match use related words I noted that google display both ads if I search Nike and Jordam (shoes is related with Nike). My question is: bid of B is competing with bid of A? therefore CPC of A increase because of B? Tks

Adwords campaign and adgroup ideas
When it comes to SEO, I can do that. When it comes to adwords I tend to scratch my head. No idea why, I just do. Anyways I want to get some ideas of how I can setup a killer campaign and structure it and target relevant keywords. Here is my description of my business We are a private christian school providing preschool, elementary and highschool. We are located in Henderson, NV but service Las Vegas, NV as well. We have some of the highest scores and accolades in Nevada so we pride ourselves with those and feel we should target that. So far when it comes to structure I have come up with this setup Campaigns Henderson adgroups Preschool Top Keywords preschool Example Keywords preschools in henderson, nv preschools in henderson nevada preschool henderson nv preschool henderson nevada top rated Example Keywords top rated preschools in henderson nv top rates preschools in henderson nevada best Example Keywords best preschool in henderson nv best preschool in henderson nevada Elementary Top Keywords private school Example Keywords Elementary private schools in henderson nv Elementary private schools in henderson nevada Elementary private school in henderson nv Elementary private school in henderson nevada top rated Example Keywords top rated elementary private school in henderson nv top rated elementary private school in henderson nevada best Example Keywords best elementary private school in henderson nv High School Top Keywords private school top rated best Las Vegas adgroups Preschool Elementary High School I didn't finish the rest because you should get the point. I don't know if these are exact keywords, I just know that private school, top rated and best tend to be what people type. Then each adgroup will get a relevant ad pertaining to those keywords. Am I going overbaord? or is this a good start?

Bad Adwords Leads and B2B Placement Ideas
Hello, I have two PPC related questions that hopefully someone could help with. My client complains that the majority of leads he is getting are disqualified - mainly due to fake contact info left on the landing page. This happens both in the Display and Search campaigns. We are getting a good number of leads and we checked with Google that there is no fraud involved. What can be done about this? Has anyone encountered that kind of complaint and how did you deal with it? Can you recommend any tools, other than Google's Ad Planner to find good placements for a display campaign? Another client of mine is selling B2B services such as document destruction etc. Where can I find, for example, a list of placements frequented by people from the insurance business? I never had a problem finding placements for B2C but B2B seems to be a lot different. Any insight will be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Michal

Is a $100 adwords credit appropriate here
Hello, A long time ago we set up an Adwords campaign for our company on my sister's personal Adwords account. My sister would like us to set up a new account under a business email for the new Adwords keyword research we want to do. Is using a $100 coupon appropriate for our new account? I honestly don't want to use it if it's against Google's policy. And is there anything else I need to keep in mind as far as fees or requirements in setting up a new account and/or using the coupon? Thanks!
