Website data updates
-
Hello All,
I have downloaded some reports for "following" links from SEO Moz and no doubt the report is very comprehensive. However, I know some links listed in the reports does have rel="nofollow" tag attached to it but it is list still shown that they are following links.
Can some please guide be to understand why this has happened. Is it possible that SEO Moz has old data of our site because these changes were recently done (2-3 weeks before)..? OR Have I misunderstood following as dofollow..?
Any help would be highly appreciated.
Thanks, moosa.

Hey Moosa,
Thanks for the question. We'd love to check this out for you. Can you do me a favor and email in to help[at]moz.com with a few examples of incorrect data so we can check it out?
Remember the data in OSE does come from the Mozscape index so is not crawled as often as your campaigns would be.
Thanks! I look forward to your email.
Cheers,
Joel. -
Thanks Jesse. yes, this is Open site Explorer Reports..?
I have downloaded another report today but the domains and links are still mentioned in it. There are few domains that I control and I am very sure that they have nofollow tag to every external link but they too are listed in the reports.
I am just trying to understand where the error is.. is it in the reports or the sites.? Why are they considered following even if they have nofollow on them..?
I will appreciate if someone can shade some light on my problem..?

Hmmm.. Well, if they aren't nofollowed then they definitely shouldn't be on your followed-only report. This is in Open Site Explorer?
Try running this report once more.. I usually don't have problems with what you're describing to be honest.

Thanks for the response Jesse.
I assume that any link that does not have nofollow mentioned in their <a>tag are following links and I had mentioned a filter and have downloaded reports only for those links which does not have nofollow tag mentioned.</a>
<a></a>
<a>There are few domains that have only one link to us and when we view the source of that domain we can see that rel="nofollow" is mentioned in</a> <a>tag of our domain. There are many such links mentioned in the report.</a>
<a>Since we know that those domain are clearly not following us then why are they listed in the report.
I hope I was able to explain it better this time.</a>

Are you talking about the data in Open Site Explorer? Because yes, that data is refreshed once a month although the last index was updated yesterday...
Can you clarify what you mean? Sometimes sites will have 3 or 4 links to your page embedded and they will nofollow all but one. In this case you might get reports of both followed and no follow links..
I'm not sure I'm understanding you entirely though.. Sorry

Internal Links Data on OSE and poor ranking despite excellent metrics
Hi folks, I use OSE a lot for comparing where we stand against our competitors and I'm always surprised to see most of our competitors have loads more internal links than we do. For example, comparing 'www.kensyard.co.uk' with 'www.sterlingbuild.co.uk', we are better on every Root Domain Metric except for the Total Links metric and this is down to a much smaller number of internal links. They are ranking better than us in Google so I'm wondering if there is something wrong with the way our site is coded / structured that means Google and OSE are not picking up our internal link network properly? We have over nine times as many external root domains linking to our site than theirs, which is surely a far more valuable metric than internal links right? Or is there an issue with our internal link structure that is confusing Google and causing us to rank lower? Many thanks for any advice, Luke

Does linking to relevant high authority websites effect your MozTrust or Rank?
Basically what the title says. I am having a hard time understanding why a compeitor with less linking domains and none of any real quality, they're all membership sites or partnerships, nothing to relevant to the industry. While we have links and articles on us from multiple magazines in our industry. As well as to relevant directories with high domain ranks. The only thing I noticed is they're linking to their clients website, which are all high authority websites. So do external links count towards your MozTrust or Rank?
