Trying to recover from a ranking crash
-
My site was well established and I'd built up some good rankings in Google using link building and onsite optimization. Then last year it completely fell out of the rankings except for a few keywords. There were some suspicious links but nothing that seemed too toxic, no warnings from Webmaster Tools. 9 months later I still haven't recovered. The site is well optimized. Any ideas?

Had the same issue my own. I actually wrote a couple pieces on that.
After working on hard writing good, shareable content, creating a better user experience, removing those links that might look toxic and then disavowing those that weren't remove, you can go ahead and fill a reconsideration request.
Although those are intended to Websites with a manual action (you received a message in your Webmaster tools), you can still fill that request explaining what happened, what steps you took to solve any possible issue (if any) and ask for some guidance on what is actually going on.
They might not respond, but Google claims ALL requests are read, so if your site has some sort of penalty they will look into it, it could just be a google glitch that they can actually fix.
Take a look at those sites outranking you, are those black hats? if yes, REPORT THEM in that reconsideration request too, or you can use the report feedback form (which is linked to in the same page you post the reconsideration request).
As I said at the beginning, I had the same issue. After fixing everything, sent a reconsideration request pointing all my issues, showing them our efforts, etc, and I don't know if they actually read it, but 2 black hats that were outranking us in page 1, spots #1 and #2 disappeared to page 6 or something like that, so until now (2 days later) it is already paying off!
Hope that helps!

PDFs With No Index Contribute To Page Ranks?
I have a question I'm hoping you can help me with. If I upload a PDF and add a no index under the meta robots index so that the PDF doesn't appear in search results when I send people the link to this PDF, does it still contribute to my site traffic/ranking etc? Basically we are deciding whether to put some PDFs with pricing options etc onto our website or on a google drive. We will be sending the links to potential clients. If visitors clicking on the link would still help with increasing traffic and increasing our google rank (without that PDF showing in results) we thought this might be the best solution.

Our site dropped by April 2018 Google update about content relevance: How to recover?
Hi all, After Google's confirmed core update in April 2018, we dropped globally and couldn't able to recover later. We found the update is about the content relevance as officially stated by Google later. We wonder how we are not related in-terms of content being ranking for same keywords over years. And we are expecting to find a solution to this. Are there any standard ways to measure the content relevancy? Please suggest! Thank you

Post-August Google Updates High volume keyphrases rankings mess
Howdy, fellow mozzers, Couple of our clients keep losing rankings, slowly but surely, which seem to correlate to August Google updates. No major changes to the websites have been done - neither code, backlink profile nor content. It seem to affect higher search volume keyphrases, while other longer tail keyphrases are climbing up. The screenshots of the visibility rankings are attached below. Any ideas/news/thought about the Google update itself or what might be happening? I know that the Medic update was overall quality, yet it seems to be that these websites in particular are going down after Birthday update, not Medic itself. Google and da mighty Internets being quite.. Help! Dramatic drop in SEO rankings after recovering from hacking
A few months ago my client's website was hacked which created over 20,000+ spammy links on the site. I dealt with removing the malware and got google to remove the malware warning shortly within a week of the hacking. Then started the long process to do 301 redirects and disavowing links under Webmaster tools over these few months. The hacking only caused a slight drop in rankings at the time. Now just as of last week the site had a dramatic drop in rankings. When doing a keyword search I noticed the homepage doesn't even get listed on Google Maps and for Google Search instead the inner pages like the Contact Us page show up instead of the homepage. Does anyone have any insight to the sudden drop happening now and why the inner pages are ranking higher than the homepage now?

Desk top rankings differ from mobile rankings
Hi there! We are working on clients site for SEO. We have noticed that our clients 'desk top search results' on Google differ from the 'mobile / tablet search results'. For the desktop - the client is in the top 4 results of page one for Google, but for mobile / tablet results they are at the bottom of page one. We converted the clients site to be responsive 6 months ago. We have been through Google webmaster tools and made all suggested alterations. All programming is to a high standard. Competitors all seem to keep their current rankings - whilst our clients seem to drop. Any suggestions what the issue is would be very much appreciated 🙂 Thanks in advance. Phil. . We re-built their website so that it was responsive. We have been But -

Ranking under a non-geobased, one word phrase
We have a local client who would like to score under the words "locksmith" and "locksmiths". What is the best way to get him to rank organically and not just in Google Plus Local for those keywords?

Webmaster Tools Crawl Stats Drop - Ranks Dropped too
Hello, So I have a situation I haven't seen that happened today. I checked in on my keyword rankings, and all seemed to drop off the rankings in one day. Even googling my domain name, I'm not the first result (when I always have been with multiple sublinks under). There were no unusual errors in the webmaster tools, no issues "Fetching as Google". The only thing I can find is in Crawl Stats, my "Kilobytes downloaded per day" and "Time spent downloading a page (in milliseconds)" dropped a lot in the last day or so (by about 90%). Has anyone had this happen? Any ideas for how to bounce back from this? Domain referenced is mediamegamall.com Thanks!

No longer ranking for non local local terms
Anyone seen this lately; I have a client who is in the food catering business and for the seo we target a lot of local keywords (event catering Hampshire, for example). In the past couple of weeks search engine traffic to the website seems to have dropped by about 60%. However, rankings do not seem to have dropped. What I have noticed is that up until a couple of months back, the client would be ranking first page in the Google local and also have a listing in the 'normal' serps. It appears that the non local pages have vanished. Checking a couple of their competitors and it seems the same there. This has led me to start to believe that Google are now only giving a local position or a normal position on the first page and not both, as previously. The non local pages are sitll listed but seem to have dropped way back to the 4th or 5th page when previously they would have been first page. It would of course help if the client were to give me access to the webmaster tools!!! Hate it when client's only give you half the information you need and then expect you to tell them what's up!! Anyone seem this? Thanks, Carl
