What do you think of this Anchor text?

What do you think of the anchor text for this big site? www.guitarworld.com/
It is mostly "Guitar World" which I think could be a natural link profile, as I think that's the anchor text a lot of unbiased people would use, and probably only a typical search term based on the companies popularity in the first place.

Thanks, yes I agree. I meant as in my domain name and Title text that I am "Keyword already". I have been making sure to vary my anchor text, but probably too much mixing keywords in different orders, rather than partial and different so I do intend to vary it more. If I get linking momentum from others without my doing then they will likely choose the exact match knowing that that is my domain name and titles, if that happened I think I might avoid all exact match if getting my own (relevant) links.
Social shares are good, as far as I know they are mostly http//: URL's which aren't judged the same way. Rhetorically, if social sites decided to use page titles in people's mentions to make it look nicer, and you became really popular, I wonder if you'd get Penguined.

I used to get Total Guitar. Don't worry I won't be using Guitar World as anchor text. I have noticed a couple of others have given themselves similar names as bigger already established brands, such as TotalGuitar dot net which seems to be a different company than TotalGuitar, I guess when a brand itself creates the keyword it's going to be pretty low competition for spin offs, kind of clever I guess.
Perhaps I should change my surname to Gibson? lol (I won't) but everything below gibsons own site for "Gibson" is not guitar related and "Gibson Guitar" is just large retail sites with one relevant page that isn't specifically optimized.

You shouldn't really use your keyword as anchor text too often... That technique is very 2008. If it fits into the context of where the link is coming from then it's not the end of the world but ensure it only amounts for a maximum of say 10% of your link profile. To Google, anchor text links look un-natural and have been manipulated by spammers for way too long.

According to google, Guitar world gets 27,000 global exact match per month whereas "Guitar Techniques" (also another magazine / site) gets only 4,400, this of course being an actual word people would search for regardless of whether a magazine is called that. I'm in the "key word already" category too. I wonder if a "Keyword already" name like Guitar techniques would have problems with an anchor text pattern similar to Guitar Worlds anchor text.

Your anchor text should depend mainly on whether it fits into the content or the page the link is on. There is no generic answer available.
Please just make sure that you vary it. Use anchor text that actually works within the website. Just ensure you don't keep using the same anchor text over and over again.

I was a subscriber to Guitar World for many years. I don't think I would even do a search for it. I would go directly to the website. Guitar World is a HIGHLY branded company and is carried in Guitar Center, Walmart, Target, Barnes and Noble, etc.
Don't use guitar world as your anchor text. It's like using JC Penny as your anchor text and not having it link to JC Penny.

That anchor text is going to be fine I would imagine. It isn't going to be a high search volume keyword I wouldn't suspect and it is going to be describing the company/brand as opposed to a product or industry term.

Best type of backlinks... Right? What do you think?
I was just thinking... wouldn't the best types of backlinks for any small local business be from "their own competitors" ? Weird, I know... but it would NOT get any more relevant than that. I mean wouldn't an Italian restaurant in New York gain credibility and higher ranks on SE's if "other" 'Italian restaurants in New York' linked back to them? Problem... yeap! It would be really hard to convince your "competition" to link back to ya! no matter how good your content piece is! Thoughts?

Is using photos of people to market your ecommce a good idea? Do you think people relate more?
So I noticed all the leading competitors in our market are using photos of people on their home pages to market products.. While we are using a simple but eye catching design with no photos of people but only produts.

My Competition is using some Strange Achord Text and Inbound Links
I was doing some research and a lot of my competition are websites from Universities, but I got surprised when I saw that a lot of their Anchor Text where things like Buy Viagra , Play poker , Buy Cialis , a lot of their inbound links where about things like that , one of the sites I was doing research on was www.imba.ie.edu , this site was #1 for the keyword I want that is related to education. Also other sites on the #1 page of google for this keyword (universities websites) had the same kind of inbound links and achord texts. Whats going on here??

My competition is using 1px images and links without anchor text. Good or bad idea?
I've been scoping out some of my competition and I noticed the number 1 ranking site is doing a lot of "interesting" stuff. I saw a bunch of 1px blank images that they must be using for the alt tag keywords. I also noticed several links to internal pages with different keywords without anchor text so they don't actually appear on the page. Is this considered black hat? Should I be doing something similar? It feels like the work I'm doing to try to rank #1 with a clean/professional looking site are wasted when the #1 sites are doing things like this.

What precisely is "partial match" anchor text?
This page says "...'partial match' means that at least one word from the query matches the anchor text.". Does this mean that at least one word from the query matches at least one word from the anchor text, or that at least one word from the query matches the entire anchor text?

Question regarding back link analysis and anchor text
Hello, I am looking at my competitors back link analysis and comparing a range of link based metrics from the top 10 SERPS. I am then putting this data into excel and comparing our back link profiles. When looking at the anchor text distribution i am not sure whether to look at exact match anchor or phrase match anchor. For example, one of the companies I am looking at holds positions 3 and 4 in the SERPS. Looking at their linking profile I can see that only 1.7% of their links use the exact match anchor 'widget'. Looking at their phrase match anchor is an entirely different story, 93.5% of anchor links contain 'widget' somewhere. i.e. 'cheap widgets', 'widget sale', 'buy widgets at www.examplewidget.co.uk' etc. Obviously their exact match and phrase match anchor distribution tell a completely different story. THIS IS TRUE FOR MANY OF THE TOP 10 SERPS. Therefore, should I be looking at phrase match anchors instead of exact? Side note: would people recommend targeting anchors with 'brandname widget' based on predictions of Google giving weighted anchor more weight. Robert.
