Duplicate Ttile and Duplicate Content
-
I'm a beginner of SEO. I have a few questions need to ask people to help. The MozPro's Crawl Diagnostics show I have a lot of duplicate titles and duplicate content. However, most duplicate titles are related to Pagination. What should I do?
Also, for my duplicate content. B/c we are selling similar products, everything all most the same, only product's item number different. How can I avoid it?

The solutions can be a bit site-dependent, but rel=prev/next is Google's approved choice for paginated content. It does depend a bit on how complicated your searches are (are there also sorts, filters, etc. that create unique URLs?) and how many pages you're talking about. An older option some SEOs still prefer is to META NOINDEX, FOLLOW pages 2+ of results. Adam Audette has some good resources on the subject:

For products, it's a bit trickier. If you're talking about hundreds of variations, and they're very, very similar, then I think rel=canonical can be a good choice. Post-Panda, the risks of indexing hundreds of similar pages are worse than the benefits of potentially ranking for a few product variations. There's no one "right" answer, though - it's always a trade-off. In most cases, I think focuses your ranking power on your core, unique products is usually a good idea.

If you properly use Rel Prev Next ( http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com.au/2011/09/pagination-with-relnext-and-relprev.html ) on paginated content you DONT have to worry about duplicate titles.

Thank you for your answer. I still have a question for Duplicate Title. Is it same ways?

Hi alexsu0910,
Using the Google Webmaster Tools Console along with the MozPro Crawl Diagnostics is a good place to start for troubleshooting duplicate content. In particular, the HTML Improvements section of Google Webmaster Tools support provides a guide to identifying and rectifying duplicate content. As well, make sure you have a robots.txt file installed to instruct the Google crawlers not to pick up on duplicate content. Also consider the value of a 301 redirect to steer users clear of pages not used or duplicates and instead make take them to a tidy home page. Finally, you can also use Google Webmaster Tools to inform Google of URL parameters, much in the same way a rel=”canonical” helps determine whether Google should index the content.

Content Curation & Duplicate Content
Hi, I have a client that wants to do content curation but it has been my understanding that adding external content that is already live on another website to your website, you get penalized for duplicate content. I have read that you can create an excerpt and then Google won't penalizes you for duplicate content. Can anyone shed more light on this topic. Thanks

Is it advisable to have unique pages for different cities/states though there wouldnt be any actual differentiation in the actual content.
Is it advisable to have unique pages for different cities/states though there wouldnt be any actual differentiation in the content. For example should we have separate pages for "hammers in california" & "hammers in new york". The product is same and content more or less the same. The search volume for individual queries is low but collectively makes a large number. The unique title tag automatically will generate traffic. So does it make sense to make 50 such pages. Else is there any way to uniquely target 50 such queries/month/city

Duplicate content - 6 websites, 1 IP. Is the #1 site knocked down too?
Yes I know, running multiple websites on 1 IP isn't smart. 6 Websites with duplicate content on 1 IP is even worse. It's a technical issue we can't solve quickly. Thing is, our #1 website, which has the highest DA and PR, was the first website with all this content. All other websites we're running were launched a few months, and some a few years, later. All content was copied from the #1 website. I'd say the other websites would get knocked down by Google, because they duplicated the content. Google should see that our #1 website was the first that uploaded this content. Therefore our #1 website should rank normally. Questions is: What does Google think of duplicate content when all websites are on 1 IP? Is, or will our #1 website get punished as well?

Press Releases and Duplicate Content on Event Related Site
I have a site that lists events. I ask those submitting events to submit original content if possible, but frequently they submit press releases which are already published elsewhere. I rewrite some of the press releases, but do not have time to rewrite every press release that comes my way. I want my users to get a comprehensive list of events, but I don't want get a penalty for duplicate content. What is the best solution?

Forum Site: Content Value Post Panda
I run a forum website built on Wordpress. We're about two years old. The theme of the site is a directory of attorneys, with each directory listing having its own blog account on our site. Through this platform, we receive 75-80 blog posts now every month of varying quality from our users. QUESTION: A good number of the blogs published on our site are also published on the attorney's law firm site as well (they're syndicating on our site). Will this hurt our site in light of Panda? A lot of the syndicated content is very well written and insightful. By contrast, Will non-syndicated but average to below average posts hurt our site? The authors almost always link back to their firm site. Would love some feedback on whether we should be happy about the syndicated content or whether we should potentially ban it?

Hey Guys SEOMOZ is showing up Dupplicate Page Content, but this just comes up because we use Tags at all the blog posts. Should we better not use Tags? Thanks in advance...
