How to rank in Google Places
-
Normally, I don't have a problem with local SEO (more of a multi-channel sort of online marketing guy) but this one has got me scratching my head.
Look at https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=wedding+venues+in+essex
Theres two websites there (fennes and quendon park) that both have a much more powerful DA but don't appear in the Google Places (Google + Business or whatever it's labeled as).
Why are websites such as Boreham house ranking top in the map listings?
Quendon Park has a Google places listing, it's full of content, the NAP all matches up. Its a stronger website. Boreham House isn't any closer to the centroid than Quendon Park
Just got me struggling this one

Danny Dover at Moz did a whiteboard Friday that goes through the basics and is a good resource: http://moz.com/blog/the-basics-of-local-seo-whiteboard-friday
There are also several good blog posts on the topic that will help, including this one: http://moz.com/blog/40-important-local-search-questions-answered
And David Mihm, now at moz put together a list of ranking factors that you should be aware of: http://www.davidmihm.com/local-search-ranking-factors.shtml

Thanks for the response! My knowledge of the map listings is a little low (my website usually get above it).
What can be done to push Quendon Park to the top of the map listings? I don't really see anything that differs between Boreham Hosue and the others
Thanks

Jason, there are different algorithms in use for the organic listings and the local listings. The local listings aren't (as) dependent on PR (DA) as the organic listings.
Borehamhouse happens to be the strongest of the local results and since local results in this search show at the top of the page (they show up differently depending on the search query), they make it top of the page via the local search algorithm.
quendonpark and fennes are being held back from the top of the local results for any number of reasons, but because they have sufficient organic authority and relevance, they make in onto page one via the organic algorithm. Due to poor performance according to the organic algorithm, however, even though it's at the top of the local results, Borehamhouse doesn't even show up in the first few pages of the organic results

Does Page speed matter for google ranking?
We are not sure that page does matter or not for google ranking as I am working for this keyword "flower delivery in Bangalore" from last few months and I saw some website's google first page who have low page speed but still ranking so I am really worried about my page that has also low page speed. will my Bangalore page rank on google the first page if the speed is low and kindly suggest me more tips for the ranking best factors which really works in 2020 and one more thing that domain authority really matters in this year? as I also saw some websites with low domain authority and ranking on google's first page. Home page: Flowerportal Bangalore page: https://flowerportal.in/flower-delivery/bangalore/ focus Keyword is: Flower delivery in Bangalore, send flowers to Bangalore

Google PR Rank Question (s)
Hi
Technical SEO | | damientown
My Google PR rank is still 1/10 (www.abouttownmarketing.com) after 12 weeks of daily SEO work building what I thought were quality back links. Does anyone know how often Google updates its PR rank? Also is it a linear measure or link adwords quality score is it exponential?
Many thanks

Rank tracker and Rankings report differs
Hi all Is this normal? I have set up a campaign for a site. Tracking a variety of keywords. For one of them, which is a quite important keyword I've been working on I've moved down one step in my rankings report. This is first of all weird because my on page optimization went from grade c to a, and even weirder beacuse if I run Rank Tracker tool on the keyword and the URL I see that I've moved up 6 steps, to 15 in Google. Kinda makes it hard to grasp if I'm on the right path or not! (I've checked and they are both results on google.dk, same URL and same keyword - exact)

Do Google Always Tell You About Penalties?
Hi One of my clients has recently suffered a big decline in rankings on some of their keywords, going from positions in the top 10 to sub 50 for some of their keywords, but not all. Their website is still indexed and there is no link warning from Google. Some of their links from a previous link builder are dodgy and we have already tried to contact the other company for removal but to no avail. Any ideas where I start? So far I planning to increase the branded anchor link and add some content as the site is fairly light on content. Is it worth doing a reconsideration request and mention the bad links incase this is the problem. Has anyone seen any particular good resources on what to do when it appears you have a penalty. None of my other clients have been effected by Panda or Penguin and although I have done some general reading I need to know what action to take and get up to speed FAST! Thanks in advance. Kind regards Karen

Google Indexing
Hi Everybody, I am having kind of an issue when it comes to the results Google is showing on my site. I have a multilingual site, which is main language is Catalan. But of course if I am looking results in Spanish (google.es) or in English (google.com) I want Google to show the results with the proper URL, title and descriptions. My brand is "Vallnord" so if you type this in Google you will be displayed the result in Catalan (Which is not optimized at all yet) but if you search "vallnord.com/es" only then you will be displayed the result in Spanish What do I have to do in order for Google to read this the way I want? Regards, Guido.

Google plus
With a single Google search, you can see regular search results, along with all sorts of results that are tailored to you -- pages shared with you by your friends, Google+ posts from people you know. **Does pages shared by friends ** Does this mean pages shared by friends on Google plus ?

Google Fresh Update
Here's a question, if you put the date in your url (often a wordpress format) would that be seen by Google now as 'fresh' content? - part of their new update.
