Does google know every time you change content on your page
-
What i mean by the question is, so on our home page www.in2town.co.uk we change the article under lifestyle story of the day, if this changes every hour, will this encourage google to visit that page more often or will then just ignore that and just visit each day
would love to hear your thoughts on this

cheers for that, will need to shift my focus, many thanks

Yeah, it seems you may be a bit more focused on a symptom, rather than on a cause. Authority is a function of your link profile and is Moz's interpretation of PageRank. The greater your authority, the more often you get crawled, and the greater your opportunity to rank higher for more search queries.
-
since the update of my site, things have been a bit funny. i was seeing my site get crawled every four days and now sometimes it is daily or every two days. is there anything i should do to get it crawled more often.
You say about the authority, is there anything i should be doing to improve this.
-
The frequency Google crawls your site/pages tends to be based on authority, rather than on how often it is updated. So if your authority dictates that your page gets crawled on a weekly basis and you change the content on a daily basis, not all of that content will get indexed.
You can see when the last time a page was crawled by using this search cache:example.com/page and you'll get the last crawl date at the top of the page. You can also look through your server log files to see crawler activty.
-
You mean to say that the article on home page is updated with new article every hour
Yes, as long as the content and snippet get changes and backed with Authority links - it will enable search engine to crawl website more often in lookout of fresh content. **Note - **Search Engines crawl site basis the source code, so as long as the content is changing frequently - so will the crawl too

Google keeps marking different pages as duplicates
My website has many pages like this: mywebsite/company1/valuation mywebsite/company2/valuation mywebsite/company3/valuation mywebsite/company4/valuation ... These pages describe the valuation of each company. These pages were never identical but initially, I included a few generic paragraphs like what is valuation, what is a valuation model, etc... in all the pages so some parts of these pages' content were identical. Google marked many of these pages as duplicated (in Google Search Console) so I modified the content of these pages: I removed those generic paragraphs and added other information that is unique to each company. As a result, these pages are extremely different from each other now and have little similarities. Although it has been more than 1 month since I made the modification, Google still marks the majority of these pages as duplicates, even though Google has already crawled their new modified version. I wonder whether there is anything else I can do in this situation? Thanks

Google Seeing Way More Pages Than My Site Actually Has
For one of my sites, A-1 Scuba Diving And Snorkeling Adventures, Google is seeing way more pages than I actually have. It sees almost 550 pages but I only have about 50 pages in my XML. I am sure this is an error on my part. Here is the search results that show all my pages. Can anyone give me some guidance on what I did wrong. Is it a canonical url problem, a redirect problem or something else. Built on Wordpress. Thanks in advance for any help you can give. I just want to make sure I am delivering everything I can for the client.

Better to have less pages with more related content?
I work with a law firm and we are having a hard time busting into the first page of results for any of our keywords. I am new at SEO and have been trying to analyze how are competitors have an edge over us when on paper we are better optimized than their websites. One glaring difference is they have fewer webpages, which possibly makes each of their pages more keyword rich. Would it be smarter to condense our many webpages/topics into less, more general web pages? I hope my question is even making sense, thanks for any possible help! Our site is http://www.utahdefenseattorney.net/

Change in url structure - added category page
I have recently started an e-commerce website and have now changed the url structure and added another level to my category pages. So where it before was www.website.com/shirts it is now www.website.com/clothes/shirts. So I added the clothes category (just an example) before the shirt category and am now finding that the old url is still found in the search index and is still live on my site. How could this be? I use wordpress and simply change the urls in the backend. The products are still under www.website.com/product/blue-shirt-123 so they won't be affected but I suppose it now means I have duplicate category pages? So my question is: Should I 301 the the old category page (www.website.com/shirts)to the new url (www.website.com/clothes/shirts). And how can the old url still be live on my site? If this was a bit unclear, please let me know. Appreciate your replies!

Googlebot take 5 times longer to crawl each page
Hello All From about mid September my GWMT has show that the average time to crawl a page on my site has shot up from an average of 130ms to an average of 700ms and peaks at 4000ms. I have checked my server error logs and found nothing there, I have checked with the hosting comapny and there are no issues with the server or other sites on the same server. Two weeks after this my ranking fell by about 950 places for most of my keywords etc.I am really just trying to eliminate this as a possible cause, of these ranking drops. Or was it the Pand/ EMD algo that has done it. Many Thanks Si

Is creating backlinks to Google places pages worth the time and money involved?
I have worked on a website and organically it is starting to do fine. The website itself is on the right track. Now, the places page, could use a little improvement. I did make sure it has the right categories, has all unique pictures and videos, it does have a good amount of reviews and even citations from other local directories, and even the website links to it. It does show up for some local searches but I would like it to dominate more. I've heard that if I've built links to that Google Places local page from other sources, it would rank higher and perform better. Is that true? Any other tips and tricks to make it perform better? Thank you

Duplicate page content errors in SEOmoz
Hi everyone, we just launched this new site and I just ran it through SEOmoz and I got a bunch of duplicate page content errors. Here's one example -- it says these 3 are duplicate content: http://www.alicealan.com/collection/alexa-black-3inch http://www.alicealan.com/collection/alexa-camel-3inch http://www.alicealan.com/collection/alexa-gray-3inch You'll see from the pages that the titles, images and small pieces of the copy are all unique -- but there is some copy that is the same (after all, these are pretty much the same shoe, just a different color). So, why am I getting this error and is there any best way to address? Thanks so much!
